My Equatorianous son and I are heading out from our home in Quito, Sector Basílica, to Cuenca. My attorney, Sara, is in Cuenca. The business is Ecuador Visas, and I highly recommend Sara and her staff.
This is my fifth trip to Cuenca and Saul's third. We're taking LATAM Airlines. It's a 45-minute flight vs. an eleven hour bus ride. The RT fare for us both ran $293.
Our AirBnB is a two bedroom, fully furnished condo for $25 a night in El Centro. There are good AirBnB values throughout Cuenca.
    Great video. Enjoy Peru.

Cuenca is 8,400 feet and is lower than Quito. Pizza Ttres is my favorite here.

The pizza was pretty good but I was NOT happy about being charged $3 for a club beer.

Oh no the taco restaurant was closed! 2x$1 tacos on the river is the best place in town. I thought you said it was Tuesday but they are normally closed on Mondays and they take down all their signs.

So, I hear from the internet travelers that when traveling in Ecuador, Do not bring or carry Large $American Bills? nothing bigger than a $20. preferably bring $1, $5, $10 bills? I hear they use the coin $1 version a lot of the American dollar, that we never use here in the USA? is all this true?

    • @edwardnull5447
      @edwardnull5447 3 месяца назад

You're on the right track. No 1 dollar bills. All coins for used for the dollar. When you go to the bank or ATM all you get is 20s. If I get my money from the ATM I go into the bank and exchange 20s for a few 10s. 5s are not necessary. All of the coins used ate mostly American. But you will recieve a mix of coins. Mot to worry the Ecuadorian coins look exactly like American. They also use a lot of kennedy half dollars. The regular people in Ecuador are awesome. Cuenca is the place to go. Very safe, and beautiful
      GOOD LUCK

Looks like lots of graffiti.doesnt indicate unsafe area.

There is quite a bit of graffiti, but it definitely doesn't indicate unsafe areas. Also, in the early 2000s (I think that's when it started), the city started subsidizing artists to paint murals to cover graffiti. The city still does that. So, while there is still a fair bit of graffiti, there's less here now than there used to be, and we have some pretty fantastic murals. You can see a couple of murals in the video at ~7:40 (and those are average ... there are some really amazing ones around the city).
The purple bridge he crosses at ~4 minutes isn't graffiti at all (in case it was mistaken for that). It's a memorial to women killed here over the years (I'm not sure how many years it covers), but the names painted on it are names of women killed, mostly in domestic violence situations.

More street art and the purple and white bridge is a tribute to domestic violence. Cuenca is very safe.

No terrorists yet , but they'll get there . The plan was devised three years ago by big players . You see no people on the streets , they are scared to come out .

Yes. They did make their play. I got a call from my boys' school saying you need to come get your kids. This was in Quito at about 1pm.
The Ecuadorian military was activated along with the National Police. They crushed them within 24 hours, and within 36 hours, everything was back to normal.
      It hasn't happened since.
