Chippah he's honestly my favorite bassist from metallica. he was definitely less skilled than cliff and Robert but he just had that sense of really loving the music that he played and that's something I feel cliff and Robert just can't recreate with thier playing.
Jason was Metallica''s tightest bassist, hand's down. People can make fun of him for not being a shredder, but the dude held the rhythm better than Rob or Cliff. Listen to the AJFA isolated tracks. He's fucking spot on. He, along with Eddie Jackson and Mike Starr, are my favorite bassists. They're why I picked up a bass and have been playing for about 5 years now. His playing had the swagger, aggression, and power Metallica needed. And his backing vocals need no mentioning.

I remember hearing some of these 92-93 bootlegs and always constantly thinking to myself.... GOD its great to hear Jason...hahaha.. loved this melodic solo and the bombastic growl in his tone .
Gonna be honest on this one, what he plays here is easy enough to play and most of it is covers of other songs, and i do think cliff and rob are both better than Jason. However, it does sound great, i love his tone, and that my friend of misery part really inspired me. Jason is definitely not the best bassist around, but damn he is good.
Creepy Lil' Llama I agree he may not be ya know musically skilled like cliff and rob but he was the energy for Metallica and to be honest I feel like he was the force that kept them going with the backing vocals and amazing stage presence so yea Jason is one of a kind musician
I have to say Jason is better than Rob, only for the simple fact that in the studio, Cliff , Jason and Rob a great. The studio is a controlled atmosphere where everything is perfected with take after take and then editing to how it should be. But where Jason is better than Rob is the live shows. No one goes to a live show expecting to hear perfection or hope that the songs sound like original recordings, where Jason surpasses Rob is with his stage presence, energy, and backing vocals. Guy had one hell of a voice. Almost like he was possessed in a way. Jason WAS Metallica. I can't imagine being able to play in my favorite band like he did and bring that energy and enthusiasm as a new-comer/emotional punching bag the way he did. Most guys probably would have quit being in his position, but that wasn't Jasons style until finally it became out of hand and he literally had no free will to do anything on the side.
You'd be fucked in the head to think there's NOT gonna be somebody better, there ALWAYS is. But listening to this dude, right here, right now, ... I'd say he's the SHIT.
