I’ve been doing this for years. Also, don’t wait to give some of those things to those you wish to have them. Do it, now. Give them away, NOW. Let your loved ones know how much you care, and you’ll be certain they got of yours, what you wished for them to have.
I can also add the younger relatives do not necessarily want something we treasure. They don’t want the clutter either and our treasures are not necessarily their keep sakes!

I declutter twice a year the closets, other household items and donate to group homes in my area. Several years ago, I donated books before moving into a senior complex. Curtains no longer needed and extra linens.
Your timing on this presentation resonates with me, because I am in the process of "Letting go" of things. At 72 I have been in the process of selling off collectables but making sure family members can have what they like. I am keeping eBay busy as well! LOL. I have ALWAYS looked at selling my collectables very objectively. I have had "fun" with them, now someone else can enjoy and have the same pleasure I had years ago. My grand kids will also have some of my treasures that will tell a story from me. I feel good about it and knowing family members now hold what I once did can now experience the fun and history of unique object. Oh yes, one more person who is equally pleased with my project...my wife!! Life goes on and I have peace of mind.👍
