Well no need for me to make the same comment since you beat me to it. I normally do t comment on videos . BUT . The first 3 minutes really had me question a couple things . 1 - those cross lays were terrible . Both created problems for the guys pulling them . 2- why is there a FF with a 2 1/2 flowing water where the house is already destroyed while nobody’s protecting the part In compromised by fire ? Our goal is to save property and protect exposures . I’m sorry but this made no sense to me . Keep training gentlemen and stay safe
One of the 5 Rights of the First Line is Right on the Seat of the Fire ...... Not where this initial attack line is flowing. I know I'm not there but as a Training Officer I stress putting the water where it needs to go.
Jim Wattenburger... True. Common sense. He should hv hit the fire from the rt side with the wind behind him.He wud hv put the intact side fire out and the wind wud hv taken the water to the smouldering end and put it out there. In a situation like that you hit the root of the fire ie the floor. Once the fire on the floor is out the fire weakens. The fire 10's of meters high is coming from the ground.
I don't think there is a dumber than a fireman who holds a hose and sprays against the wind, but if he was smart to make the water with the wind direction, the result would be excellent
They claim to have 9 paid firefighters in 3 stations 24/7. As well as others paid on an on call basis. As well as volunteers. They can't even pack the cross lays correctly so they can be easily pulled. The insurance companies, and NFPA should come down hard on these clowns. Nice website though....

I have seen many overseas videos of quick knock downs with hose reels. Often used for a quick knock from the outside before transitioning to an interior attack.
Horrible line placement of that initial line. Everything he is putting water on is already gone. That line should be knocking down the fire closest to the house.

So the one hose with water is being sprayed on the smoldering ruins......while the intact side is left to burn?
Yes that was as stupid as it gets especially on limited water supply.
Just posted the same thought. It's hardly rocket science, yet there are tons of videos on line showing god awful line placement

They have a "no interior firefighting policy" 😂 (no joke though). From this video, It looks like they have a no exterior policy as well.

1st 2 minutes water went on what already burned and not the exposure. My first thought was "maybe" they were worried about a brush fire
The main house should of been hosed down instead of that small structure that was already gone.wth
You don’t fight fire from the downwind side !

What a cluster fuck, I guess they saved the foundation. What a shitty fire department.
Where’s Dave Decker when you need him!!??

It's one thing to have an inadequate water supply. It's another thing entirely to have inadequate training and NO common sense.
Very sad to see. Prayers to the home owners.
The guy on the 2 1/2" line isn't doing much to protect what hasn't yet burned. The guy on the 1 3/4" line is making a difference.
Guy sitting on line in driveway...you are doing absolutely nothing. Good day sir
Great video, tactics are ahh, hmm, interesting!
Wow! Hope someone informs them that fire goes out better when you put water on it and not spray it away with the wind.

I'm so sad. I've always loved this house and those trees especially during the holidays. Reminds me of a lot of the houses in rural michigan
A great house during the holidays.
Lack of funding or manpower is no excuse for not knowing basics, like how to stretch a line and where to place it.

You'll never extinguish a fire by sitting on a hose line.
I was driving right by there, this house caught on fire and the wind made it worse
Why is it that today’s Ff set up 50 ft away from the fire were they just reach the fires edge and not the seat ?

Is this a training exercise?
What the hell are they doing??

This is a textbook way of how NOT to do it. They didn't do a very good job on this one, I'd be embarrassed for them.

did they ever figure out the cause of this fire?
just my humble opinion but I think deck gun might have put it out quicker just saying

Just putting that initial line in play putting water on the fire instead of what already burned would have made the difference.
Sad to see American firefighters struggle to pull out the hose of the engine. European firefighters use a hose reel.... simple and fast.
No hose reel is gonna put out a fire that size!
