      Genie should never
      Suffer unintended Consequences from the
      Wish Spell.
It is important to note that in traditional genie literature, there is no mention of negative effects on genies when granting wishes. Therefore, it may not make sense to include such consequences in a game or story featuring genies.
Furthermore, the purpose of granting wishes is often to convince individuals to sign a pact with the genie. This pact would limit the genie's ability to use the unlimited wish spell for themselves or their friends.
If unintended consequences were to occur as a result of wishes granted by genies, it should be the person making the wish who suffers the consequences, not the genie. The genie's role is to facilitate the granting of the wish and uphold the terms of the pact.
In a game or story featuring genies, powerful individuals may seek out the protagonist's character in order to sign a pact and gain access to unlimited wishes. It is up to the DM to create a wish that moves the story forward and ensure that any unintended consequences are appropriately addressed.
Overall, it is important to stay true to the traditional genie literature when creating a game or story featuring genies. The focus should be on the pact between the genie and the wish-maker, rather than on negative consequences for the genie.

I rolled an Artificer /Genie Warlock as a meme build. Turned out pretty good. One tactic she had was , over a week, load up the genie bottle (yes bottle because it was fragile) with gun powder, oil, alchemist fire and the like . 20x20 ft is alot of stuff.
She would then use catapult (spell) launch the bottle, smashing it, and thus "every objects stored there harmlessly appears in the unoccupied space closest to the vessel former space".Tthen bonus action command the turret to shoot at the contents.

    Bada
    BOOM!

Seeming: In addition to the disguise benefits, you can turn tanking on its head: Make the squishies look like heavies and the heavies like squishies.
Any enemy that picks their targets intelligently will be tricked into not doing so.

    • @kevingriffith6011

That would probably buy you one turn, maybe a little less against actually intelligent opponents who would question why the wizard is gripping his staff like a greatsword and charging at you, or why the heavily armored knight with the axe is running to a covered position and casting fireball. That being said, buying one turn of suboptimal actions on the enemy side in a combat that lasts 4 turns is pretty good.
One of *my* favorite uses of Seeming comes from a little bit of unique text that other disguising spells don't have...
You can cast it on unwilling creatures. Hear enemy reinforcements on the way? Cast seeming and change appearances with your enemies! Bind some enemy guards, seeming to make them all look like you and your party look like them and then escort them inside the enemy base. You don't get to use it like this *often*, (And the more enemies you do this to the less likely it is to succeed) but it can create some pretty ridiculous antics if you look for them.

For limited wish, an interesting thing you can do with it is actually take advantage of the armor proficiency from tenser’s transformation. Since it’s an ability to cast a spell the normal restrictions when you lack proficiency should be ignored. Then you just do pact of the blade and scare someone with 2d12 and 6d8 extra damage on a warlock with a flight speed.

"Flavour is Free", so I took a single level of Efreeti Warlock to represent my Wildfire Druid gaining additional powers after his life was saved by his wildfire spirit!
Earlier in the campaign, the druid Kellan received a "Moon Seed", a magic pinecone that functioned like the Moon Sickle from Tasha's but which could be worn or carried instead of wielded (it wasn't a weapon), and this pinecone became his wildfire spirit's home, where it slept when it wasn't summoned. Fast forward to 9th level, and Kellan sacrificed his life to stop an eruption from the Elemental Plane of Fire from spilling into the Prime Material ("If anyone has a chance of surviving this, it's me.") The elemental fires consumed his body, but his wildfire spirit - representing both destruction and rebirth - kept his soul safe, and a week later it "reincarnated" him into a new, partially-real body that's now an extension of the wildfire spirit.
I took a single level of Efreeti Warlock and re-flavoured it to represent Kellan's transformation and new source of power: The genie subclass gives him additional fire damage on his attacks, and the Moon Seed itself has become the "genie's vessel", so now Kellan can retreat inside the seed just like the wildfire spirit does. The spell list overlaps with Wildfire and Druid too much to be useful, but I took "Hellish Rebuke" from the base warlock list; when the constructed body is damaged, unstable flame can erupt out at the attacker. Optimal dip? Not really, but flavourful and fun.

You decide what the object is, or you can determine what it is randomly by rolling on the Genie’s Vessel table."

    • @joshhoey
      @joshhoey 2 года назад +2

@@blitheringape5321 Two levels may be optimal for a premeditated multiclass, but this was a spur-of-the-moment choice after eight solid levels of being a druid. As a Wildfire Druid especially, Kellan is a caster - a blaster, a healer, a controller - and also a Shillelagh wielder, so the dip into Warlock was just for some fun features and not to make use of anything that relied on charisma (his "Fiery Rebuke" save DC is a bit lower than his other saves, for example, but I didn't mind).
Of note, I didn't dip warlock for Hex, Eldritch Blast, or (obviously) Hexblade.

    • @joshhoey
      @joshhoey 2 года назад +3

@@CasualLoLAddict Yeah, we decided that it wouldn't break the item economy or anything if the vessel is an item you already have when you multiclass into Genie Warlock (as Kobold says, it could just be a ring you have on your hand and forget about), so it felt great being able to form a stronger bond with a favourite item we'd already added some flavour to.

Another thing that should be noted about the level 6 flying feature. Since you can hover that means you can fall prone in the sky. The rules for going prone while flying is that you fall UNLESS you can hover.
Being prone in the sky is great because ranges attacks have disadvantage aggainst you so most enemies still can't even touch you, but now most of the ones who can are going to have a harder time doing it (Realistically you wouldn't want to use this ability if your foe can fly anyway so it doesn't matter)
I think Kobold actually brought this up when discussing the twilight cleric, which can also fly at 6th level and do this exact same thing, idk why he didn't bring it up but it's veery useful.

Another great advantage that the Daolock's Bludgeoning resistance gives them over any other genielock:
Falling damage is bludgeoning damage too. Admittedly, the genie warlock has some interesting ways around fall damage (Such as being the only class that can survive a fall into the bottomless pit of doom at level 1 as long as they have time to take an action to get into their vessel... or just turning on their magical flying) but sometimes falling happens before you have time to react, and PCs take a *lot* of falling damage.

I find that if you're creative enough, you can twist the entire mechanical concept of a "genie warlock" and instead have say, a demon in a lantern, an angel in a reliquary, evil in-laws in a Pringle's can, the possibilities are pretty expansive, it mostly just has to be "A powerful (elemental) creature bound to a handheld object you carry with you". Hells it can be a smart phone with a Warlocks-R-Us app where you cast magic from your phone, and as you gain levels you are just benefiting from the loyalty rewards program.

It just means that you could min-max your bottle space by making a crap ton of those chests and neatly organize your Tiny Chest collection.

The 10min. Short rest is awesome, but another ace up your sleeve is that with Sanctuary vessel and pact of the chain Imp, you can suck your whole party in and get a long rest while your Imp goes invisible and gets out of reach of any danger. The best part is that Bottled respite requires you to get a long rest after ENTERING the vessel, so once your party gets their long rest you can repeat this whenever you want. Really useful in long dungeons or other areas where everyone is low on resources. Can really ruin a DM's plans too so use sparingly!

The story I’m going with is that a Dragon wishes for a descendant, and offers 2 vials of it’s blood to the Genie to make it happen. The genie would act as a guardian angel of sorts.

    You really undersold Limited Wish.
Sure, being able to cast "good" spells that you normally wouldn't be able to is nice, however, that's not the only thing it can do.
The biggest benefit is how supremely versatile it is by providing instant access to ANY 1 action spell of 6th level or lower. There are a LOT of really good, but extremely situational spells that hardly anyone will ever have at the ready: Knock, Passwall, Speedy Courier, to name a few. As well as a bunch of others that you just unexpectedly need (or don't have a class with access to it): Pass without Trace, Locate Creature/Object, Speak with Plants/Animals/Dead.

So I’ve heard of a super combo that utilizes the Bottled Respite feature and Glyph of Warding. Basically if you store a buff spell in a Glyph of Warding, the spell can be used on someone and lasts the full duration without needing concentration.
Basically you can stack multiple glyphs all with different buff spells all set to trigger on the same space at the same command word. The main weaknesses of this is its REALLY expensive to make a lot of glyphs, but that’s negated of this is late levels, especially if you get the actual Wish spell. Another is if a Glyph of Warding is moved more than 10ft from the cast location, it dispels. You can beat that drawback with Genie Warlock by setting up the Glyphs inside your vessel. As the inside is an extradimensional space, even if the vessel is moving, the space inside isn’t.
Basically if the party is in a bad spot, the Warlock pops into their vessel, goes to the Glyphed spot, says “Wombo Combo”, and pops back out with every type to Smite spell applied to them at once.
This combo is viable without the warlock if you just have a home base you feel you may need to seriously defend one day to have a buff closet. This tactic could also be used against the party by enemy characters defending a fort if you really want to throw a challenge at the party. (And if the party knows about it and can figure out the trigger condition, maybe can steal the buffs for themselves for the encounter)

One thing you didn't mention about the vessel that is downright broken. It is a 10 ft radius by 20ft high cylinder extraplanar space that can fit into bags of holding without any issues AND has no weight limits. You can store so many things in here its basically a super bag of holding. Sure you can't use it against unwilling creatures or anything of the sort, but you can store so much stuff in there its insane, and even use it to double store itself in a bag of holding for even more shenanigans.
Mine in a game I'm playing stores our party Shield Guardian so he doesn't have to make checks and I just let him out during battle.

I think it was DnD shorts that did the video about how you can combine Genie Warlock with Glyph of Warding to make the ultimate buff. Glyph of warding is no longer limited by travel. You can store multiple concentration buffs on separate glyphs and then activate all of them simultaneously when you like, all of them lasting for the extent of the duration. At 20th level if you went Wizard 17/Warlock 3 you can even multi-chain spells like True Polymorph (assuming ruling of stacking rather than overriding transformations). With enough Batman prep time you can then kill literally anything because nothing can hurt you.

Definitely would make for a great Dr. Fate cosplay character.
Dr. Fate has a strong earthen iconography with his Egyptian themed origin, so Dao would be flavorful.
Dr. Fate has a vast archive of magical books and arcane knowledge, so Pact of the Tome is a strong pick.
The Helm of Fate just requires a Helm for the Genie's Vessel feature. Possibly grab one of the available common magic helms from XGtE.

I played a human crusher do lock with moderate armor, repelling blast, and agonizing blast and I grabbed an eldritch mind. the control was excellent. I got summon shadowspawn for when they go-to spike growth strat wouldn't work but the dm never allowed me to purchase the item required to cast that spell.
regardless it was an extremely fun character to play however the pure warlock build I had for it felt very limited and pretty much like just a martial, attacking each turn and not doing many tricks because you may have more than one combat between short rests. if i were to remake it i'd bite the bullet and either only multiclass into warlock after level 5 or hop out at level 3 after getting second level spells and the pact boon
the help action every turn from the familiar and having the familiar constantly loaded to use their action to feed potions or administer health kits to downed players was clutch and using the bottled respite and elemental gift saved me a lot more times than one may think but i still didn't use the bottled respite feature every long rest.

One thing I do for ALL Warlocks is give them the ability to alter the damage type of their spells/abilities to a type that's associated with their Patron. For example Dao get Bludgeoning the energy takes the form of magical boulders/rocks, Ifrit would get Fire damage, Djinni would get Thunder damage as the spell turns into a powerful blast of wind, and Marid would get Cold damage as it becomes the freezing water of the watery deep.

You said "Some people get mad when you point out an error in the game." And while some nerds do get upset just at the mention I think it's one thing to point out that the game is busted and wild and a whole different thing to try to pull some sneaky "Well ackshually...." type argument with the DM at your table, most people obsessed with these exceptions are trying to be disruptive at the table and thats rude to the DM who prepped and ran the session and also rude to the other players just trying to enjoy this game with friends.

RB says to push it up to 10ft AWAY from you. If you decide that this means diagonally, i could move someone sideways with RB as long as they end up at least 1ft further away from me and the line is straight. Clearly this is not RAW or RAI.

Hello everyone. I have a question pertaining to the Warlock Genie's vessel. It says "The interior of the vessel is an extradimensional space in the shape of a 20-foot-raduis cylinder, 20 feet high, and resembles your vessel." Is there a way that something could Plane Shift or teleport into my vessel on a whim? Also, not sure if it works like this, but we found a jade that an enemy wants. If I brought it in, could they scry on it? I have a ring of Mind Shielding, so Idk if that matters in that case? I was thinking of bringing the jade into the ring, but then thought about if someone just gets into the ring with me.

a romanicish backstory for your genie warlocks I made myself. you were a lowly student at a high wizarding school and one day somehow fall in to a elemanal plane (what ever plane your genie is) and fall face to face with your soon to be patrion and and after some aid your choice of genie asks for you to be one of their few warlocks, you agree and stay for a while, but during that time you grow closer and closer to your patrion, you both realize that you both have feeling and become a couple and then you have your own reason for being where you are now, (if you want you could my you and your genie married and have your wedding ring as your genie vessel) Please let me know what you think I've never shared this on the internet, I hope you all like it! it might be a bit cringe but i like it

Sanctuary vessel doesn't say once a day(or needs to recharge with a long rest) so after every combat after 10th level you can just hop into your vessel for a 10 min nap to recharge your spell slots and pull the fighter in to recharge his action surge and second wind, the cleric and paladin for their channel divinity, the druid for her wild shaped, and the monk to replenish their ki.

The thing about Warlock is not that he has lower number of spell slots its that its specialized and you need to know how to do it.
A warlock will have lv5 4 slots at maximum , if you are a genie you can do a rest in 10 minutes so that is 8 slots per day.
A wizard has 3lv5 3lv4 and 3lv3 slots the 8 slots if you take into consideration the upcast are the same in power.
For lv1 slots a wizard has 4 slots but the warlock has invocation(Mask of many faces and misty visions make you a good spy and illusionist), that cancels the lv1 slots
For the other lv2 slots you have other invocations that make up for that and if you want the single ability to fly with a genie without concentration is like having a better fly

Also with bottled respite u could probably convince your DM to allow you to get a long rest if your race gets a 4 hr long rest. It says 2x your proficiency bonus after all and u start the game with 2 proficiency base, so 4 hrs base.
While usefulness is questionable it's doable so I'm sure theres a unique use out of it.

Warlock is the most dipped class, and with good reason, but if you're gonna go straight class warlock you can't go wrong with genie. The features you get at level 6, 10 and 14 (if your campaign gets that far) are all strong and viable. Nothing feels disappointing or lackluster. Genie is a subclass that delivers.
