And you just said it best. The government thinks the same thing with youngins. Let's make everything electric and tell the people when and how long they can charge things. Give curfews for certain things. Charge way more than they did the last generation cause hey you wouldn't know any other way so it would seem "normal" to you.

I put a new stereo in my boat and played a V8 idle loop on RUclips and idled around the marina. I fooled a lot of people. Maybe can you do that with the harley
We need stats. Total cost. Parts list and where to find them. 0-60 time. 1/4 mile time. Distance on full charge. How long to fully charge. I think there are a lot of us that would be interested to making one of these things because it is without a doubt one fun son of a gun. Man, I would really like to take that thing for a spin. Thanks for the Rich's rebuild of a 70's Harley.
Congrats sir... awesome project!! One quick note about that lady that... uh... nudged you. Basically most people when they're driving don't "see" motorcycles as their brains are wired to look for cars. So yeah... when she said she didn't see you, it's a dangerous thing riders have to deal with. I would recommend taking the Motorcycle Safety Foundation course if y'all haven't as they go over a lot of things like this, and ways to ride that'll make you more visible (yes that sounds stupid to say, but the numbers don't lie sadly). When I last took the course 20 years ago (fuck I'm old now), and I think the numbers are still the same, you improve your odds of not being in an accident by 90% by taking it. The reason is according to the numbers, 90% of all motorcycle riders involved in an accident had no form of actual rider training. So just by taking the course you're taking yourself out of that group. Stay safe sir, great build!
This has been an amazing project to watch. Love it so much!! I think as someone who has always been interested in bikes but then never got into them for the very same issues that electrification solves, this has made me feel so giddy.
This bike honestly looks incredible. You've done an amazing job with the trellis frame, and the paint, and filling out the void where the old ICE was. Looks sick, I want one.
@18:30 "we could double capacity giving us x miles before stopping to charge". Would love to hear more about how you charge these vehicles. Sure as hell won't be stopping by a level 2 charger, haha, but that'd be cool.
@@donbot5000 no J1772 connector and communication to negotiate current with a charger, and no thermal management (cant charge lithium in freezing temps).

I'm not a fan of HD's designs as they don't handle well, but this is something I'd give a try. Not sure why the industry hasn't built a touring electric bike yet. Well done Rich!
Energy density of the batteries doesn't allow for enough range. Motorcycles are horribly bad at being aerodynamic, so you are using a lot of available power to move the machie at any given time. ICEs can stay at a given RPM and use marginally more or less fuel. Zero has a "dual sport" bike out and it has half the range of my Panamerica. I have thought about buying an electric bike for a while now, but only for the work commute. I just still can't get past all the batteries being made in a country that wants my country erased from existence.
It is absolutely insane how quiet that bike is. Like, not even the usual electric motor whine you usually hear. I would LOVE to own something like this, (with a charge port, rearview mirrors, and a working radio). Any chance we can get a full parts list?
@@gamertherapyconsoleyoursel5804 i'm sure that just depends on the type of controller and switching frequency, i'm running FOC controllers on my electric scooter and you can hear it quite a lot, but that's just the offroad tires you hear

I hope you guys keep working on this idea, maybe come up with a package for others to buy. Really nice. A loud stereo system would keep you heard better coming down the road.
Weirdly, it looks better, the engine and batteries have a meaty 'dunno what it is but it looks like muscle' vibe, all black was inspired. Almost a steam punk vibe, I abso-fricking-lutely love it! (this from a guy with an RC30 and a Fireblade, that kind of hog is the opposite of my taste but for some effed up reason, I LOVE this thing... you guys are artists). Sucks about the slo-mo t-boning.
This is the bike I never knew I needed... I looked at zeros a while ago and they just seem like an electric bicycle with the limited range. Would love to see you guys figure out all the speca of this. Also, so freaking cool to see you guys riding around my hometown! I'll be on the lookout for you!
My problem with election motorcycles is I ride motorcycles because I want to ride them not charge them. So I like to ride and ride until I need gas, and ride and ride more. One time I rode, got gas, rode up a mountain and down the other side, got gas, came back up the mountain and down again, refill again, and then ride all the way home, and got more gas. So I charging doesn't make sense to me. Maybe if you just need it for driving around a small town to the store and back, but it's a lot of money just for a grocery getter bro. These guys have an interesting idea that would reduce the cost a used bike with parts from eBay. 90 miles of range really isn't a lot. But they could carry normal batteries. Problem is that eats the storage. I like storage
I guess to increase safety, you could try to put some color changing lights around the Harley. And maybe a small machine that makes loud noises that you could turn on and off. Preferably one that’s not a speaker so as to not drain the battery. But this build was pretty cool.
Speaker would use almost no power compared to capacity of the battery. True 5 W speaker is very load and uses only 0,005 kWh in 1 hour of use, so lets say 3 hours and that is 0,015 kWh. But the battery is around 600 times the capacity.
@@drister007 I’m no NASA engineer. So I don’t know. But he would have to add two different speakers. One for the constant fake motorcycle engine noise. And the other for music he would like to blast. Unless he plays music the entire time he rides the Harley.
In order to counteract the "too quiet problem", maybe you can extract the fart sound files from the Tesla computer, and tie those sounds to the throttle, and add a front and rear speaker...also from a Tesla? Just a thought...
I am beyond impressed. Mostly how good it looks. The range seems on point with current tech…I would ride the wheels off that thing. ALL that being said, one of the best things about my current motorcycle is the freaken sound. With copious amounts of torque, I could totally live with a eHarley
Shredding tyres would be my primary concern with a Harley. A proper sportsbike needs to accelerate, brake and handle almost unbelievably well, but a Harley has only two purposes in life, emitting noise and shredding tyres either by doing burnouts or trying to get 150 tons of sand cast muck metal off the mark without stalling, and since this one is silent, it has only ONE purpose which it seems to be almost perfect for.
@@theParticleGod You should actually ride a Harley. That particular model handles just fine for what it is. As a matter of fact, at low speeds, that Harley actually handles better than ANY sport bike. For just riding around on, they are actually pretty cool to ride. They just do not have a abundance of power is my only problem with that Harley. To get power in them, you have to spend copious amounts of money.
@@Todd66 I have ridden on Harleys before, I think I get what people like about them, obviously they're not made for flicking down a twisty road with sparks flying off the exhaust hangers, but they have a cool hot rod vibe, and suit the kind of riding where you take in the scenery. And the noise is transcendent, especially when you have a bunch of them riding together. My main problem with them, and one of the main reasons that I mock them is because (until very recently), I don't think they gave a shit how unsafe their vehicles were as long as they preserved the old skool style. Which apparently meant handling and, disturbingly, stopping like something from the 1950s - even as acceleration improved past anything but competition bikes from that time. I absolutely get that they are not meant to be ridden in a manner that exposes flaws in handling, braking and throttle response. Unfortunately, all those things that Harleys are not designed for are exactly the kind of things that a vehicle might need to do to avoid or reduce the effects of crashing. Having said that, they have been leaders in the use of electronic safety devices like ABS, so they seem to be turning the ship around.
@@theParticleGod my problem with them is the lack of power and poor manufacturing quality. I don’t ride sport bikes any more, so a cruiser or bagger or even a tourer is more my style these days. What I do like about them is the comfort, the low speed handling and the massive aftermarket support. But even with all of that, I still do not ride a Harley. My best friend has a 07 Harley just like the one in the video ( except it’s white ). I love how the bike sounds, I really like that it’s fuel injected and as I have mentioned, the low speed handling of the bike makes it a pleasure to ride and it crushes miles on the Highway. I ride a Honda Valkyrie and it’s 7 years older than my buddies Harley, but out performs the Harley and cost MUCH less to own and maintain. The sound of my Valkyrie is intoxicating with 6 into 6 exhaust. The only thing about the Harley that is “better” than my Honda is that the Harley is Fuel Injected and my Valkyrie has 6 Carburetors.

I used a 3KWh Chevy battery module for a 72v system (costed $650) and I got an 18kw motor and controller on eBay for $500. Plus hardware and time it comes out to much more. Mine is nowhere near as powerful as Rich’s at 20Kw and 90 amp hours of battery but it’s still fun to ride. Come spring I’ll be able to do a proper range test. Have you seen the Eahora/city Coco/rooder chopper scooters? For less than the cost of the cheapest Harley, you could buy and modify one of those to have 12kwh and 100mile+ range with saddlebags holding a couple extra batteries since their setup is a removable battery.
The setup in the first video had me laughing, but good conversion. Old guys like me have a hard time with the sportbike-style ergos of the Livewire and Zero - I've test ridden both makes, they're just not comfortable. I'd rock this as long as I wasn't long distance touring. Good job!
Loud pipes don’t really save lives and if that lady is driving based only on sound then wtf? Does she run into EVERY EV she encounters? I wouldn’t worry about the silence at all but I’d definitely reconsider blacking out the taillight and blinkers even though it looks really cool. Especially on a black bike wearing all black. You want those lights to be as bright and visible as possible.
Please come to bike week down here in Daytona Beach and convert all of these loud obnoxious Harleys to electric. It would make me hate bike week that much less.
If he charged to a QS hub motor he'd have had more room in the frame where the mid motor is for battery this increasing range and still having the storage. The cage is nice but it really helps on long rides to have removable batteries and keep a couple in the saddlebags

Uncle Rich.....can you pair this with a sidecar, dog, and doggles and do another follow-up video. Not sure why but whenever I see a guy with his dog+doggles in a sidecar it makes me smile.
Excellent work guys! Now just for some perspective: I dare you guys to build a H2 ICE Harley- Davidson: This Hydrogen fuel driven V-twin has wins on all sides: No emission, and yet true sound and true Harley feel to it! Do you want to reach the vast majority of Harley riders...? Then the H2 ICE solution is the one I'd say. --> in fact if you calculate from cradle to cradle, the H2 ICE solution is a lot better for the environment, but you already told us that this was no motivation for you to do what you do, right? One more blunt statement: Electric vehicles are not part of the solution, they are part of the environmental problem to begin with, that is if you calculate you carbon foot print purely from cradle to cradle. After all, you don't pick a battery from a tree when it's ripe, you'll have to mine all the raw materials first, and that's incredibly damaging to the environment. and while in use at the end user, the e-vehicle takes electrical power generated by coal and nuclear power plants. And at the end of its cycle, it will have to be environmentally friendly demolished...which is not possible.

And you just said it best. The government thinks the same thing with youngins. Let's make everything electric and tell the people when and how long they can charge things. Give curfews for certain things. Charge way more than they did the last generation cause hey you wouldn't know any other way so it would seem "normal" to you.
@@brandonmacon3317 Electrification was/is always going to happen eventually.
Personally I think it was another really cool unique project and the way you guys always add the fun and humor always makes it's better. Looking forward to what you guys do next!
I'd like to see a drag race of all the EV conversions you guys have done. Use Dolores as the control, and show us how everything else compares!
Could you imagine how fast and electric motorcycle is down the drag strip if it had a giant wheelie bar to keep it from flipping
Awesome project! Hey if you want to compare this to the Harley-Davidson LiveWire, I have a 2020 model. I think it'd be a cool comparison.
i second this
Love it. The silence of an electric bike is so underrated. Really is a great experience to be able to hear everything around you.
Tao Leo owner, 72v 40ah (for now, looking at a 60ah) and I absolutely love it.
Stay safe sir, great build!
rich and steven have a lot of skills and alot of fun and it shows
I hate to say it but I love it. I would call it “ ghost rider “. She’s eloquently quiet
Also, love the belt still holding the batteries together 👌
I ride all motorcycles and love the comfort of my Street Glide… I’d love to own an electric street glide!!! Good work guys!!!
Looks sick, I want one.
i love the way you guys present things so off the cuff. this is a glorious build
@18:30 "we could double capacity giving us x miles before stopping to charge". Would love to hear more about how you charge these vehicles. Sure as hell won't be stopping by a level 2 charger, haha, but that'd be cool.
why not?
@@donbot5000 no J1772 connector and communication to negotiate current with a charger, and no thermal management (cant charge lithium in freezing temps).
@@Infinion no j1772 that you saw and depending on the config you can dummy it to charge from one at minimal speed . But yeah I'd assume that it's not going to fast charge. I'll have to rewatch the series and see what charge controller they are using
Super cool! Good range, easy to ride that around town all day having a blast as people fall over seeing you pass with no noise!
@@Megakoolguy357100km from a 5.5L really? 😅😂 Boy you stupid if you think the range won't work for this build from Rich. Straight tripping
Getting 60 pounds off the bike and eliminating the endless 19th-century cacophony it generates, that's a solid win.
Love the belt buckle holding the battery packs together 😂😂
Classic Harley look with the belt👍😎
This is rich's most epic build yet. An electric Electra glide is the most perfect idea ever
It is absolutely insane how quiet that bike is. Like, not even the usual electric motor whine you usually hear. I would LOVE to own something like this, (with a charge port, rearview mirrors, and a working radio). Any chance we can get a full parts list?
i'm sure most of the noise comes from chain drives, belt drives are really quiet
@@BH4x0r yeah I was more comparing it to most smaller electric vehicles that have a bit of an electric whine to them
@@gamertherapyconsoleyoursel5804 i'm sure that just depends on the type of controller and switching frequency, i'm running FOC controllers on my electric scooter and you can hear it quite a lot, but that's just the offroad tires you hear
Please add an oil tank with a hole punched in the bottom. Fill with used oil & metal shavings and top off every 1000 miles because authenticity and heritage are important.
You should make the live to ride badge in he gauge cluster a lcd screen hooked to a back up camera just for kicks..... dont need two live to ride badges....
Would love to know the 0-60, top speed, etc. stats. Awesome project.
Rich: *makes fun of "loud pipes save lives"
Also Rich: *takes pipes off and immediately gets hit.
😂 Glad you're alright!
Your knowledge of how statistics and chance works is phenomenal.
honestly the chances of that happening!
TBH though a lot of drivers are so distracted that sound wouldn't have made a difference. I bet that lady would've hit him even with the engine in it. Don't underestimate the power of stupidity
@@randomname4726 Thanks! Your knowledge of how jokes works is garbage 👍
@@michaelhohe2168 The slim chances are what makes it a good joke lol. I for sure don't underestimate people's stupid, but when there's a big poppy thunder blowing sound at a car coming up behind, people hear.. plenty of personal experience to back it up.

I own a HD bagger, and I would like this done to mine. I do love the sound of the pipes, but you keep the great looks of a bagger with your set up.
I hope you guys keep working on this idea, maybe come up with a package for others to buy.
Really nice. A loud stereo system would keep you heard better coming down the road.
1:10 not being able to spell 'Electric' isn't a surprise but misspelling your home is surprising. 'Dumbster' kinda says it all tho.
What a great build. I love it. The battery gauges are excellent. Fantastic job on the frame too.
This is the bike I never knew I needed... I looked at zeros a while ago and they just seem like an electric bicycle with the limited range. Would love to see you guys figure out all the speca of this. Also, so freaking cool to see you guys riding around my hometown! I'll be on the lookout for you!
Check out Energica.
A playing card in the spokes should do the trick!
@@koigoi lol, that would be awesome.
@@someguy6369 yeah! Either that or like, one of those old attachable curb feelers. Just position one of those into the spokes.
Crank the radio up with the south park bike sound everytime you start driving lol😂. Best troll.
In order to counteract the "too quiet problem", maybe you can extract the fart sound files from the Tesla computer, and tie those sounds to the throttle, and add a front and rear speaker...also from a Tesla?
Just a thought...
Love the silent drive, I hope you guys put on a very loud horn. That Harley loudness is their best safety device.
I LOVE the leather belt holding the batteries together! lol. SO Harley.. I think the build is awesome. You guys did great!
I'd love to see a Pedestrian Warning System like they have on Teslas but with the South Park Harley guys on repeat. Also the horn should be Rich going "Hey lady, I'm here!"
It deffo needs a soundtrack cassette of richs and stevons fav tunes and some more speakers in the bags
Thanks to you I’m building an electric moped out of an old east-german scooter… maybe 1/10 of the power, but I now feel like I need a big one 🥰
“ElectricGlide” 😂
Finally a Harley I’d want
Atom Schwalbe?
Love it. Start of this series inspired me to convert my dad’s FLT (and he let me!) I used Chevy volt batteries and a chain drive. Can confirm the chain is louder lol. Mine doesn’t look nearly as sick as this one tho! Keep up the awesome work!
Any idea on the rough cost of the project or was it just sort of making use of what's available just curious
@@infernaldaedra The conversion costed me $1150 in new parts considering I already had the bike. It got me 10 miles to a friends house no problem a few times already!
@@cglan_9748 Thanks for commenting and replying, what I'm thinking of doing is I've got a Honda Nighthawk that is more than done and a wrecked triumph with no motor and missing a lot of the motor part mounts that have both been used stripped for parts over the years. But I'm thinking just realized it could be cool to electrify them as both frames seem really easy to work with. And the nighthawk is so heavy taking weight off it would probably be a good thing

😍I REALLY REALLY .... WANT THIS 😎 You guys are just awesome.
You should start a (side)biz out of this, converting big bikes like that.
All the new electric bikes have just an "up to speed" design.😒
NO cruiser or HD similar.
Picture cruising the coutryside and enjoying not only the ride and the view but the environment (re sound) too. Priceless. 🤘
(edit)fun fact: There is the very pricy Evoke 6061 series heavily promoted since quite some time - and STILL not on the road. And you guys just got to work and NAILED it. 😎Love it. 😁
Good job!
The bike is sick, I think it's time for @richrebuilds to start mass producing these projects
I love the Bike and would consider buying one if the price was right. You guys are on to something. Start producing them and selling them.
Outstanding job you are one smart guy. Your bike looks much better than Harleys attempt at a EV.
Imagine what harley could have accomplished with a team of engineers.
Honestly think this is the coolest build y'all have done!
I’d like to see you guys bump the range up by filling up the side bags! Cool build 👍🏽
When are you going farther than 80 miles without wanting extra storage though?
If he charged to a QS hub motor he'd have had more room in the frame where the mid motor is for battery this increasing range and still having the storage. The cage is nice but it really helps on long rides to have removable batteries and keep a couple in the saddlebags
That flute montage killed.
It's been a year and so far you've got the ONLY video on youtube with the Golden Motors 20kw build. King.
Now Leenda needs to get on the bike riding along as Rich‘s Bikemate and smiling giving thumbs up ! Even roadmovie clips or gliding with your electraglide through a forest area hearing alls kinds of birds singing while you are biking absolutely quiet
Turned out way better than I though it would! Nice work!
Its been a while since my last bike, but I always upgraded to louder pipes and bright colors because these drivers are blind and deaf and most are on their phones anyway. Be safe out there Rich!

Loud pipes are for dickheads.

I just had a post in my feed from a friend who spent ten grand boosting his 'lectraglide to 110hp with a turbo etc etc. I sent him a picture of the Yamaha FJ1200 3CV I dragged out of a shed for $800 pulling 124hp at the rear wheel after cleaning the carbs and filling the tank. It's a little down on power from original, but has been around since 1988.
Looks great Rich, I enjoyed this series. I'm glad your ok after that lady hit you. I could have been a lot worse.
The commentary from everyone makes it that more entertaining
I'd like you guys to add a speaker with a bike sound file. And a switch so you could turn it off and on whenever
Those saddle bags look like they'll scrape the ground if you lean into a turn... haha, nary a scrape when you laid it down.
There's no way of knowing that was Rich in the cruising shots, could have swapped in a stunt guy. To authenticate Rich should ride barefoot, some we can see his feet to authenticate.... Just saying.

@@craigmcclure1355 we’d take Steven’s feet too… just something authenticate, the boots on both makes it hard to verify.

Ok the no noise thing is cool but it only reinforced for me how dangerous it can be. Glad you’re ok Rich. Maybe just pipe v twin sounds out the speakers lol
awesome build, i’d love a classic style electric cruiser, i’d never buy a harley due to their legendary reliability but man, if they did an affordable (lmao could you imagine), classically styled live wire that retained a bagger’s utility, that would be great

I wanted to make a electric ATeam van.
My van was impounded
12:30 ish , yeah sure Rich, we believe you. When are you going to put the V-12 motor in the Rivian?
And at the end of its cycle, it will have to be environmentally friendly demolished...which is not possible.
should do a collab with Bikes and Beards who also doing a Harley project but instead of making it electric, he’s putting a huge turbo on it. It’d be cool to see polar opposite motorcycles.
You should put little pinwheels or something in the gaps where the exhaust pipes were in the rear lmao.
Honestly a super cool build and I love the ingenuity behind it
People get so mad at people for having loud motorcycles but that lady that tapped Rich is the main reason why people have loud motorcycles. Other the fact that it sounds cool lol
Awesome! Since i have a few 1970's Electra Glides in my garage I've been thinking about rebuilding one to a pure Electra Glide. Unfortunately the motor and batteries are pretty expensive and an aluminium frame would be much lighter.
Now I want to build one. Also you and Stephen can be Batman and Robin with the bike and the side by side
That might be the only Harley I would own. Outstanding job! You could always mount a PA system and blare HD engine sounds for those who think it isn't loud enough.
