Came for Pavarotti. Judging by the recording date this was probably part of a tribute to Leonard Bernstein, who passed away the same year of this recording (1990).
@@MrAlexsegal You can pay tribute to someone without making the whole concert about it. I was just pointing out the coincidence of his work being featured in a concert from the year he passed...
@@crueleva9953 I’d guess it’s because they’re great singers no doubt and they have beautiful voices but it’s just not how the music is written to be performed.
They are all legends with Heaven sent voices - but I think opera-trained voices are just too overpowering for a song like 'Maria'. Almost operatic voices but not quite suits the song better imo.
Think this is good? Listen to Andrea Bocellis angelic rendition of Maria. He makes the three tenors sound like three frogs. Bocelli has a magnificent range with a soft tenderness and lilt lacking in the three tenors. These three sound as if they're trying to blow a house down like the big bad wolf. The beautiful mixture of textures and layers to Bocellis voice is a treat to the senses. So many female divas like Christina Aguilera, Celine Dion and Whitney Houston fell into the musical abyss of oversinging. Mariah Carey is guilty as charged in that regard as well. There is no mixture of high and low notes blended together. In the same way the three tenors fall into a bellowing contest among themselves. Andrea Bocelli stands alone in terms of vocal beauty and tender feeling. If he sang this to Maria, Sara or Sue they'd melt like butter on a hot biscuit. Name the girl and she'd swoon on cue. Want to hear the greatest duet ever? Pair the great Bocelli with the incomparable Lea Salonga. That would be a match for the ages. Keep the other three. I'll take Bocelli. The one tenor.

If it had been part of a Bernstein tribute, then I think the concert as a whole would have contained more works by Bernstein.

Precioso
This is both simultaneously the best and worst thing I've ever heard.

+Margaret Tudor | Agreed. Almost similar to taking an Airbus on a lazy afternoon flyover over the Grand Canyon.

se ve cachondeo en la cara de Domingo cuando Pavarotti pronuncia " María" eso se llama ENVIDIA
Jajaja esto es en serio? 😂😂
Falta um certo rigor... Prefiro a versão antiga do Carreras sobre a batuta do próprio Leonard Bernstein
Julian Ovenden beat this
