This car is really above my expectations. My dad bought a CX3 AWD basically full spec. I was sceptic - but now I really love it. It’s an amazing comfortly car
Mazda is really doing pretty good I think. And this CX-3 looks amazing, especially with some nice trim on it. Highly desirable car.

over all this is the car of its class, interior and exterior looks great and luxury, the only things not good is the rear legroom. Kudos Mazda!

Mazda design is great in recent years. I like it.
I feel that its a very unfair review. I personally test drove this car and I loved the interior feeling of it. despite of low price everything feels premium and quality. handling was wonderful and their skyactive technology really punches the power out of the engine without sacrificing the fuel. Exterior as well is beautiful said by many of my friends who I showed them the photos or saw the car.
Thanks for the review.. but i wish you'd focused more on driving performance rather than faffing about with interior controls and whatnot. Eg, i'd be interested how the 2 litre shapes up against the Mazda 3.
The lower compartment in the truck is for you to store the trunk cover when you haul big items with your 2nd row seat down. (since you ask what is that space for in your video.)
Strange that all the other reviews I've seen of this car say that the rear seat is only suitable for kids. I wonder how far forward the front seat was when he sat in the back.

+carbuyer I think it is a good idea if you wear a head cam to give the viewer an Idea of what view you get from the car another idea would be to Let us hear the engine when reving you should also do a 0-60mph drag race with rivals

I don't get it, when it comes to Mazda or cheaper cars, he always comments about the interior having plastics and low quality material. But when it comes to a BMW's interior which is full of plastic trim, he always fails to mention it. I would expect to get a top quality interior for the price I pay for a BMW.. Not a Mazda
XwtProd Hi, Mat here. Just want to respond to your point. Basically the Mazda interior design is nice, but the materials just aren't a plush as those in a Peugeot 2008. Really they are not. In the lower models of CX-3 especially it's all a bit dark and dingy. As for BMWs - believe me the plastics are better quality than in the Mazda CX-3 - which is based on the 2 supermini remember and so aren't as good as in a Corsa, Polo and Fiesta. The plastics in the Mazda3 are better than the CX-3. That car has a soft touch dash. Hope this makes sense.
It's much more about the quality, fit and finish of the materials than the materials themselves. Compare plastics from a Ford Focus to those in an Audi A3 and you will be able to feel the difference immediately. Regardless, I don't think Mazda's plastics are bad for the price.
***** True - but they aren't as nice as in the euro cars. They're just not quite. You know they will last longer though...
XwtProd I don't think there's anything wrong with plastic on any door. It's open to the British weather,RAIN. Plus sticky fingers (kids) wet noses (dog and kids).

Good competitor for the Homda HRV. Sold here in Asia as the "Vezel". It's a hybrid though....some non hybrid ones are available as well. Love this Mazda style. And as always awesome review Matt!!

Muhammad Rifky Alfandi Vezel is the sister car of the HR-V. In China these two car are basically the same except some styling and interior design.
Zhening Zhang then what's the different between HRV/ Vezel to XRV? i saw it in Guangzhou, the style is almost similar but maybe the XRV is smaller i dont know, barely distinguish it except for the emblem behind.
Billyanto Tanzil They are selled by two different joint venture Corporation in China(Guangqi Honda and Dongfeng Honda). The exterior and styling are different. As I said they are basically the same car with different looking and similar price, like Toyota 86 and Subaru BRZ.

Quick question. With a budget of 20k, which car would you choose ? I think the options are Dacia Duster, Suzuki Vitara, Mazda CX-3, Mazda 3, Seat Leon and VW Golf. Maybe Skoda Octavia
But a slight boot lip makes it less likely you'll trap something in the boot latch.

I agree that the Peugeot 2008 looks and feels much better inside than the Mazda.... The Mazda looks sharper but Peugeot just keeps it clean and more classy.
Might I suggest using Google glass for better practicality and usage.
I think they need to open the rear pillar by a few more inches.

The head cam is a little disconcerting because you start looking over your shoulder at the blind spots and i'm thinking 'JESUS MATE CONCENTRATE ON THE ROAD!' and then I remember it's mounted on your head rather than held in your hand!
Love this new segment and this will give the HR-V a run for its money

do you have any comments on the nav and voice control? My wife has a 2015 CX5 and the voice controlled interactivity and the navigation (by TomTom) is terrible. I'm really hoping that the 2016/17 models improve these shortcomings.

Can you please review the Honda HRV 2016? It's another crossover that looks like a smaller Honda CRV.
I like this. But might be going for mazda 6. 2.2 . That car is beautiful and reliable. It won me over than audi A4 or Even A5
Why not compare the cx3's trunk to a skoda yeti? It has a HUGE one and because it's practically a square car there's a lot more room then you thinks... Don't get why Matt didn't mention that.. *sorry for bad English*
Thanks for the nice review. 1) Do you think, not having a spare tyre (instead a tyre repair kit?) is a disadvantage? 2) Also, I think there is no air conditioning outlets for the rear passenger- can you comment on this also?

what a beautiful small SUV, outside no compromise the most sportiest in its class, interior looks like as even a german premium brand audi, as a mazda classic very responsive and good handling, innovative engines.!!! yes little expensive dont make me laugh, i would never ever buy a renault capture or nissan juke on this car. it coudlnt be much better for its price tag..

Out of all the cars that use this 1.5 diesel why does it need to be reviewed all the time? Why not the petrol, mean specs suggest over 50mpg, £30 road tax, under 10 or 9 seconds to 60mph and like 130mph for a low powered 2ltr, so sounds like a pretty good performing car, gets boring knowing how that diesel not many people would buy is going perform in each type of car
Quoted the new shame Mazda 3, but engine should offer similar performance in this car as well.

Daniel Leong Think so. Actually when we were filming the blumin wind was blowing through the third jet causing it to rotate and make a clanking sound. So we had to keep doing takes. Drove me mad.... Hence the nonsense Star Wars and the force reference at the end of the video, which I imagine no one got. Made my cameraman laugh tho.
Daniel Leong Yep - the final operational flight was to fly them there from RAF Brize Norton when 216 Squadron was disbanded.
Curious to know, would CarBuyer be reviewing the FIAT 500X and/or Jeep Renegade? Both seem like they'd compete with the Mazda CX-3.

That model shown is $29k and no homelink available for a 2.0 engine. I repeat 2.0 engine. I paid $34k for a new toyota highlander xle model with v6 3.5 liter 275 horsepower which is 135 horses more or almost twice the power,
