What??? He sees beauty where other people only see a guinea pigs? Who the hell are these other people? Guinea pigs are all beautiful and adorable in everything they do. That's literally what they do: They are cute and they eat stuff.

Coming from a guinea-pig owner, that looks like guinea hell. Noisy, lots of random predators looking at you. And did they say livestock? Wtf
In lot of South American countries guinea pigs are main source of their food. Like we eat cow 🐄 goat 🐐 etc these people raise them as livestock’s than use them for meat what difference does it make eating a guinea pig or a rabbit or goat 🐐 none they are all good source
As a pib owner I can only agree, the lil ginger guy he had on his hand was literally shaking with fear. That lil guinea was so scared. I hate that.
As much as I don't like it I have to agree with Tanzeel though. While the idea of eating them is beyond horrible to you or I, there is a cultural difference, (like with dogs and horses) in some countries where it is seen as normal. And so "livestock" isn't the wrong word... technically. And there's a lot of emphasis on that technically for me.

Guinea pigs are such beautiful creatures. I used to own a brown and white guinea pig that had bright red eyes. He had a very placid nature too. The people who come along to these guinea pig shows would have loved him if he'd been entered into one of them.

I've only ever had short haired Guinea pigs so I might be wrong but I feel like the ones here that are more hair than piggy can't be that comfortable. The one at the start did seem really scared and uncomfortable though.
Have you ever seen a scared guinea pig? Believe you me, it would not have been sitting on that board.

These were the most chill Guinea pigs I've ever seen! They're skittish little skitterers, most would be having a nervous breakdown.

Idk it really contrasts with what he's saying to me, he's owned them for 60 years and loves them yet he's holding one in such an awkward way not supporting it's body and poking it in the face too?
The guinea looks terrified, even in most videos I see where they're being held properly it seems like they just want to be put down lol.
This is aside from the fact that at these shows they don't have anywhere to hide or feel safe, just literally plonked on a table for I'm guessing hours on end.
I love how they pass them around on platters.

I used to run a guinea pig rescue, they’re the sweetest of all small animals and make beautiful pets.
I love the show world and grew up within mouse and rat shows but at the agricultural shows, I’d always pop in to admire the cavies.
It’s awful to think that people in Peru rear them for food .
No it is not awful. That's their culture and who are you to judge what they eat.
If it weren’t for the people in Peru, guinea pigs wouldn’t exist. Wild cavies were bred to be guinea pigs for their meat.
I think that providing piggies with comfort as livestock and then killing them as humanely as possible for food is better than constantly making them scared and sometimes traumatizing them (by tagging them for example) for those shows.

I have a Peruvian. He has so much hair. Ppl seem to favor him, I guess bc he looks more exotic. Or in other words he looks like a tiny dog. He's actually more skittish of my 2. But the poor guy wouldn't last a day in the "real world." He just wobbles. 🤔 Maybe one day I'll cut off all his hair to see how his behavior will change. But he's also just cute the way he is. Bc I def wouldn't ever hurt the rugrat.
