    Clogs are usually beyond the p trap, usually beyond the trap arm as well, in the pipe in the wall or even in a elbow in the basement or crawl space.

    90% of time the blockage is not in the trap it is in the drain line.

    OH MY GOSH, thank you so much. I purchased a snake and wondered how to get it through the kitchen drain (I am a DIY'er b/c I am single, private school teacher and have to save money.], and my house is 1965. I do NOT have a disposal, and do not use grease in my food, and am usually very careful to wipe and pullout small food bits to prevent them going down the drain, but suddenly - week before the holiday - the sink won't drain rapidly. I have used 1 c B.Soda and Vinegar, an Enzyme/Bacteria product from the hardware store and a 1/4 inch x 4 foot plastic tube to blow out and stir up the area with the dissolvers I put in there. I see the black groddy looking particles coming up when I blow down about 3 feet [that is as far as the tube will go] and hot water, but it's been 4 days now, so I had purchased the snake as a last option - and your video was helpful. I will update you on how it goes and I think I do have galvanized pipe that - who knows what condition it is in - pier and beam house, and want to avoid crawling under there - again. ugh. THANK YOU SO MUCH for this lesson on plumbing.

    This happened today. I live in an apartment and they came and snaked the drain. Turns out the clog wasn't in my unit. It was further down the pipe but I heard him yell. Oh no and I asked him what happened and he said that the snake punctured the pipe. I think it was the p-trap he said. He quickly cleaned up the water, went and got a replacement trap and installed it and everything was fine but he said it was because the pipe was corroded but that wasn't what caused the blockage. But funny that you mentioned that

    There is one wash basin in my home which was installed recently. It is installed in a space in a wall so that the drain pipe descends through the bricks and cement under the basin. It is a countertop basin. the drain pipe bends to reach a nani trap just under the floor. The plumber did a blunder that he forgot to remove a plastic sac stuffed at the time of construction in the trap. I have removed the plaster and uncover the pipe which goes down from the basin. Now, is there anything which can catch the sac and bring it out. Kindly help.

    Can these types of snake go beyond the trap though? Like further down into the wall portion of the piping?
    Or would you have to take the visible piping out for such clogs?

    • @glasshalffull8625
      @glasshalffull8625 2 года назад +3

      The snake can go further. But each time you hit a “T” junction or bend it will get hard to move it forward. Trick is to keep rotating as you push.

  • @PARKERBROTHERSPLUMBING

    This might help some but I would guess 96 out of 100 kitchen sink clogs are not in the trap. Also by going through the basket like that if you do get ahold of whatever's clogged your sink your snake is going to get stuck when you try to bring it back.

      Dawn dish soap and a clamp and rotate forwards then backwards to reverse keep gentle back pressure on it so you retreat the wire slowly

    Never insert a snake through the cheap plastic pipe and fittings below your sink. Remove all that piping and insert snake directly into the wall into the pvc piping that's in the framing of the home.

  • @azmendozafamily

    Remove the trap and clear it out. If needed, snake it from the open pipes

    i am dealing with a clogged kitchen drain right now. some dumbass put 1 1/2 schedule 40 pvc where the s trap should have been. not only that, he put a clean out above that. think double bowl sink with dual s traps that then go into a double wye secured using trap adapter. the clean out is halfway to the kitchen sink (9"bowls). with the disposal on the right hand side and the monstrosity of thin wall feeding into the other arm of the double wye there is no way to get above the clean out for snaking. i would have to remove the kitchen sink to do so. annnddd...this gets richer....evidently, either my late grandpa or one of our relatives used duck tape to seal every freaking joint along the thin wall piping!
    i would love to just rip this abomination to plumbing out and do it right. but, my older brother (who thinks he knows best) doesn't want to. i tell him i know how to do it....oh now, if i do it then he gets mad.....brothers....anyway....
    oh...and whoever did the sch 40 pvc didn't leave very much of stub out room between the floor and the double wye. so it may be hairy to cut and do it right. i figure as long as i have enough room for even a neoprene (nibco) fitting i can convert it.
    i agree with the clog being a lot farther down the waste pipe.
