  • Most people think that all you need to do to see chimpanzees living in the wild is to simply book a ticket to Africa and take a look in the forest. This couldn't be further than the truth! Few people in Africa have ever seen these apes in their natural setting and they have been hunted to extinction in many areas. Seeing them in their true habitat is simply breathtaking.
This is the first video of my series in Rwanda. In this 3 part series, you’ll see what it’s like to hike for the Terrific Trifecta: Chimpanzees, Gorillas and Golden Monkeys!
Whilst the impetus for my trip to Rwanda was to hike for gorillas (which has gained rapidly in popularity), I couldn't pass the opportunity to see the rare majestic Chimps in one of the few parks left in the world where it's possible: Nyungwe National Park.
In this video (Part 1) I discuss all the important details for a trip to Africa to see primates - from flights, accommodation, park permit costs and which country would be best suited for you to base your hikes. I compare Nyungwe & Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest in Uganda.
Of course this video also features the star of the show: the Chimpanzees in Nyungwe National Park, as well as a magnificent suspension bridge! Stay tuned for part 2 and part 3 - gorillas and golden monkeys.
Thanks to ‪@mstarling79‬ for the incredible Insta360 and Canon R5 footage of these magnificent Chimpanzees.

Hi, I didn’t find Nyungwe cold … mostly because we did so much hiking! It can be wet and raining though. In the very early morning when you wake for an early hike it can be cool.
