What you were hearing at the beginning is the guitar. They're called "triplets" its a fast down-up-down stroke typically on the top strings. Its thunderous and beautiful. This band paved the way for a lot of metal bands and the genre as a whole
I was once told by someone, they didn’t like Slayer because their songs didn’t make sense. To which I replied “It’s Slayer, it doesn’t have to make sense.” And turned the music up to 11.
Look i like slayer and all but im just not that into thrash. Don't get me wrong it's good but just not my cup of tea. I listen to bands like cattle decapitation, death, morbid angel, Whitechapel, archspire and stuff simular to that
I remember when my mom took me to a slayer concert at 16. They were a bit older, but they still blew that stadium wide open. The camaraderie between Slayer fans is unreal and unlike any other band I’ve ever seen after hundreds of concerts. My mom said she had never felt a band with energy like this. The amps literally go through you.
Well so far your reactions seem the most sincere, you're not overreacting about the songs nor ignoring half the video but rather pay attention to different parts of the song and commenting them. You're educating yourself musically by doing this and widening your musical taste aswell. Keep it up Alex.
right? i would have picked about 30 songs besides this masterpiece for first time slayer listening...something off south of heaven or seasons. then worked his way to this when he gets slayer...but really, they arent for everyone! if you want easy listening metal, there is always metallica and AX7...;)
Definitely. I remember hearing slayer for the first time. It's kind of a sensory overload, definitely an acquired taste. 😅 but it's also like drugs, you get addicted to it and you just go harder and harder.
Chiko Chikano Joey is good not great. All he does is play fast. Compare his solos to Dave's and you'll see what I mean. Dave's material is just better in general. Joey can't hold a candle to Dave. Sorry not sorry
"Craziest thing to see live" Me: "Saw it live last night in Colorado on there farwell tour along with Lamb of God, Anthrax, Testament, and Napalm Death". The catch? It WAS the craziest thing to see live!
The craziest thing to see live? YES. YES IT IS! I saw Slayer on the Clash Of The Titans tour (1990) and when the song kicked in the first two sections of chairs on the floor disappeared (I think the fans ate them) and a massive mosh pit was set up. This was years before the floor was an open area. Luckily security let the mosh pit carry on and a good night was had by all.
Raining Blood (or just the Reign in Blood album as a whole) is a pretty intense start for listening to slayer. I started with seasons in the abyss, which is one of their more mellow (mellow in relevance to slayer) albums. The title track is a good place to start (be like "wait. is this the same group???"). There is also South of Heaven album with the title track and Mandatory suicide being good options. And also Eyes of The Insane off of Christ Illusion
It is the only single on the album, yes. That's why I recommended it. Also it's not as aggressive as anything off of Reign in Blood and it relates to a real life topic that I think Hefner can dive into the lyrics to analyze. Jihad from my perspective is the second most popular song off of that album, and does have an interesting backstory, but I think getting a taste for the different forms of slayer is good to do. I would recommend black serenade or catatonic off of the album, but those do not have a music video to go along with them, so the reaction i think would be better with eyes of the insane.
+Jason A He did react to Raining Blood with just audio, dude. So Black Serenade and Catatonic are fine. Also, the reason why I chose Jihad is because it's not just thrash in your face. It has some changes and I think Alex will like it.
South of Heaven and Threshold are two of my favourite Slayer songs. Both are very rythmic. But my all time favourite might be Seasons in the Abyss. You can totally hear the Black Sabbath influence in it, and I love it.
Been blessed to see them live twice. They put on one hell of a show! The one show they did this followed by Angel of Death, and my respect and love for Dave as a drummer was cemented, like the calves of steel that man must have.
Here's a story for you: I'll always remember one of the Slayer shows I went to. It was in a big outdoor amphitheater. It was night time and looked like it was going to start raining at any moment. When the intro to this song started, you could see lightning bolts crackling across the sky, above the stage. As soon as the DO DO DO hit, and the guitars played that familiar riff, it started pouring rain. It rained through the entire song. I'll never forget that show.
Awesome reaction vid! Had this for my first dance in my wedding! Yes thats the drums - Mr Lombardo! Awesome song! Yes this is a firm favourite with fans, when played live you can prob say it's played at least 3 times faster than the album speed!
First time me getting into metal, never liked this song. But as I got more and more into metal, this song is a fucking god I'm tellin ya. So one day you truly will appreciate the beauty of it.
I’m a metalhead and love Slayer. But it’s such eye opening and out of this world first listen and many may not get it or be into it. I was definitely like that.
Take into perspective this song was an absolute inspiration and drive to all that was dark , fast, and all that is metal! Yes a must see 12 time for me!
Yes, Slayer is the craziest band to see live. At their shows, I've seen people get carried out, taken to the hospital, and return to the show. I've been knocked over the barricade and into the sound board. There is nothing that won't happen at a Slayer show. It is the most violent, chaotic, insane experience you will ever have.
hmmmm that's true to a certain extent.....but if you're a true Metal head (I like to consider myself one) then you've been to many shows of all kinds of Thrash Metal bands, Black Metal, Death Metal etc. Just a couple bands that have insane shows that i can think off the top of my head like, Kreator, The Black Dahlia Murder, Exodus, Canibal Corpse, Municipal Waste!! Even bands like Megadeth and Suicidal Tendencies have insane shows...and we aren't even diving into Punk shows, a whole another craziness.
Vaughn Wesley yep. They helped influence black metal (my all time favorite metal genre) and extreme metal in general. That being said I will always call Megadeth the best of the four. They're certainly my favorite.
