2 Corinthians 5:20-21
There is the familiar saying - 'You can't see the forest for the trees'. Something may be staring us right in the face, yet we are oblivious to its reality. Additionally, we may misunderstand fundamental truth because the universal Church has assumed everyone knows it. No truer example of this is when it comes to the 'gospel'. It's the most Christian word of Christianity - second only to 'Jesus'! And yet, the Bible repeatedly speaks about, clarifies and reiterates what the gospel actually is. It even goes so far as to warn of 'other gospels' that have crept into the churches. If it is by the gospel that we either stand or fall, are saved or lost, then we must ALL be absolutely clear on what it is. Themes include: atonement, substitution, Christ alone, sin, faith, righteousness, imputation, justification.
