Just looking at it, you just know this was the car the Plymouth Prowler was always meant to be, and should have been. It looks thoroughly pissed off, and I love it!
Have you ever meet a girl that is not that good looking, but there is something about her that makes you crazy. This car is that girl it looks like an alien but damn I would love to drive one.
djweetos that is a stunning car. The Dutch are great people I’m English and I love the Dutch I used to work in the Nederland’s, I worked all over the country from venray and venlo on the German border along to Breda, uden scheveningen Nijmegen Leiden noordwijkerhout, den helder, Edam and volendam stapohorst and meppel and I even worked on one of the islands teschelling that place was weird I think there was a lot of incest and inbreeding going on there as some of the ugliest people ive seen live there and normally Dutch people are really good looking and when I looked in the graveyard there was only about 6 different surnames and there seemed a lot of people with deformities and mental disabilities even the man I worked for had a club foot and one leg shorter than the other so he had to wear one big Frankenstein boot.
Donkervoort did want to make his own Brand ,back then new Dutch Car Legislation forced him to change the Lotus Seven he Imported from the UK. For Example ; the Lotus Seats were not wide enough for Dutch law,so he had to widen the Chassis, had to change the Wheelbase...ect ect. And then he decided ,I will use my own Name ! Big respect for the Guy and his Crew !
no the seat was not high enough. And the guy before joop who imported lotus had no certificate, he did it illegal, and the lotus wasnt road legal in the netherlands. So yes joop hen needed to make his own chassis, wich become the super 8.
This is actually really cool! The rear lights are the exact ones I used for my JZ COBRA project - a concept car privately built using clay modelling and fiberglass/carbon fibre moulds. I have DIY videos that show it being built!
Hmmm. From the video thumbnail I was a little iffy about it. But watching this video, I like it. The looks are "challenging" at first, but they grew on me quickly and I think it looks pretty sweet. And 380 hp in a car that light: much fun to be had. Manual fun. Thumbs up Donkervoort. Well done.
Was lucky to drive one for a hour. Incredible car, really makes you feel alive and work for it when you push it. This is a dream if you are looking for a true raw driver experience. Would love to own one, but hey.....
ABS, assisted brakes, and power steering aren't creature comforts, they didn't do away with them to lose weight...They didn't include them because they're all things that ruin a car and this is supposed to be a driver's car.
Hell yah !! Finally someone did a proper review of a rate gem. I saw these things in the flesh and they are just an insane piece of kit. Proper drivers car and they even have another version of it in "coupe" form. Fine German engineering, and too bad its only available to Europe.
***** not sure you can, not sure it meets any of the regulations you lot have over there. I know they are only just importing the caterhams there but its all in kit form
***** oh yeah its the same over here, I was more on about the emissions side of things, the caterham uses ford duratec engines so do pass the emission laws out there, the engine in this im not so sure about as its not a standard audi engine
Donkervoort? BONKERvoort :) Was a fan of Donkervoort since I was 12, with the D8 fitted with the Ford 220hp Cosworth engine, I always preferred its looks over those of Caterham and Westfield.
This thing looks Stellar! If I had one, the only thing I'd like to change is more power! Its pretty brisk but I like some scariness in a performance car! The Audi sounds great, always been a fan so maybe a bit louder, more abrasive exhaust, lol
paul torton That sounds fantastic indeed, but would I chose it over an audi inline 5 turbo, with a manual? Not a chance. The sound, power, let alone the novelty of the audi 5, going back to Class B rally racing, Audi Sport Quattro, RS2, 200 20V turbo, wicked cars with a wicked motor.
Craig Kulig yeah the sound is good but you could buy a 7 style car and get a audi 5 put in it for 20% of the price. it doesn't really warrant the price
Craig Kulig By that criteria, just take an engine from a Metro R4 and stick it in a Caterham / Lotus 7 and have anywhere from 380 Bhp - 400 plus Bhp on tap (naturally aspirated) and think of all the weight savings. Engines and power are only limited by the imagination.::).
Nice! Like this car... may I have one. Only thing I might change would the the front grille. In my opinion it looks a bit like a riding lawnmower (front grille only)...Why does everyone have to have a negative opinion to share, sorry, really like the background of the manufacturer and what they have created. Brilliantly awestruck, nice car guys.
Dope! (sorry, couldn't resist) I'll acknowledge the odd looks and the performance give this 7 descendent a pretty impressive presence. I'm glad it exists. That said, I would more likely work on a Locost 7 and learn some good welding along the way. #lotus7
Awesome car and the video, too! But what is the third company naming Lotus,Westfield, and then T... I am not a native English speaker and can not deduct, what company he is naming. Help, someone? Тhanks!
If it is about being intamate with your car then get a SLC kit car, made or do it your self! Light weight, powerfull and reliable, with the LS7. The best part is... people that aren't rich can own one!!!!
Im a big fan of Caterhams, my brother had one and for me its a bit dificult to accept the Donkervoort dispite his performance, and in fact it could be better than the Caterhams but because i have a massive love for those....i would take a R500 or 620, dont get me wrong i have much respect for the D8 but the Caterham is better in my book
I love this car but if I had one i would swap the Audi Turbocharged for a V8 or a twin turbo Straight six like the RB28TT and for the V8 the voodo engine in the GT350R
whod need door or windscreen in a lightweight car ?!? anyway, We really want to see it against Caterham 620 ! but Caterham still my first choice. 2.Westfield 3.Ariel 4.Radical .... I would never consider Donkerwoort, but im glad it exists
Always had sympathy for the brand and the cars they produce. They are in so many ways the counterpart of Spyker, the other Dutch car producer, who seem to be stuck in financial contructions to develop never to be built concepts. Donkervoort race, build, develop and sell their cars to a relative small number of enthousiasts and don't seem to feel the urge to change or expand.
C'mon, 380hp from that 2.5 TFSI is not extracting lots of performance, it can put out 470hp and 620nm with a uprated turbo&intercooler, exhaust and a tune by MTM. Of course, that would be fucking crazy in a 695kg car, but I'm just saying
It's basically stock, they likely didn't want to mess with it too much on purpose, either because they think its performance is already enough, cost or reliability.
bototheone1 But why? No everything's about power and raw performance. Colin Chapman's concept was low weight, not big power. Lag, cost, usability is more important than that.
The lady started talking then He got into the car. This dutch car looks kinda quirky, and no doubt is fast, but I'd still much rather have a Locost I built myself with a 400hp turbo four.
Read the title, saw the thumbnail, disagree already. Get me a seven 160 any day of the year, that's an awesome car. That's my 'before' impression, I'll be back...
***** I guess, but in that case, get me a BAC Mono, a Light Car Company Rocket or an Ariel Atom, those are all more desirable in my opinion, and not just because they're all british.
Alfred Munkenbeck ya have to see this in the flesh, looks WAY beter then ! and powerwise, none of the Caterhams or other Lotus7 replica's come even close for atom ya have to go V8, but that's almost impossible to handle, the only thing that comes somewhat close is the BAC Mono, what that misses in power (just over half) it almost makes up in weight & beter aero. the D8 GTO has "officialy" 380hp, because otherwise Audi wouldn't let them use that engine, IRL it passes 400hp for 695kg, AND this car can handle that power ! the topspec cars of the others are almost impossible without some serious race experience !!!
Iris C Alfred Munkenbeck Exactly. None of the other cars can handle this kind of power and be safe. As he said in the video high power Caterhams don't handle that safe. BAC Mono and Ariel Atom are more toys than usable cars since they don't even have a windshield.
***** now THAT is just Fugly xD The Donkervoort looks WAY beter IRL that clubman looks like a plastic tube, but its biggest failure is an oversized 5.7L V8 wich ads way to much unnesesary weight for the power
why would you spend double the price of the new 620r? this is slower round a track, heavier which means lower power to weight. give me the 620r which is also rare, then 50 grand to spend on other toys
Best looking car ever is the Lamborghini Countach 5000 Quattrovalvole made between 85 to 88. Here's a great pic of it in red with the Gold rims. www.remarkablecars.com/main/lamborghini/1986-lamborghini-001.html

0-124mph in 8.6sec is madness, especially sitting that low and open. Must me sublime.
XCAR, you are doing quite an astonishing work both story telling wise and camera work. Pleased to be subscribed!
Have you ever meet a girl that is not that good looking, but there is something about her that makes you crazy. This car is that girl it looks like an alien but damn I would love to drive one.
xcar, i honestly think you guys are making the best car related content on youtube right now. You guys rock!
More of this!! Top Feature. Visiting small car factories and tuning firms = A winner.
Joop Donkervoort makes me proud to be a Dutchman.
djweetos ain't much if it ain't Dutch!
En Victor Muller dan met Spyker
djweetos that is a stunning car. Thank you for the video XCAR peeps! This channel always puts out great content

I simply love the editing of the reviews of Xcar.
Good work, also nice review.
Thanks
Great movie! Finally some deserved media attention for this car!
Keep up the good work.
An analogue sports car! Yay. Let's cherish them while they exist. Nice video, too.
This guy is too good. Him and his team are just great.
I'm glad to finally see this car get some attention
Was lucky to drive one for a hour. Incredible car, really makes you feel alive and work for it when you push it. This is a dream if you are looking for a true raw driver experience. Would love to own one, but hey.....
Dayum ... that 5 cylinder exhaust note !
I want one.
Looks awesome!
We Dutch people can be proud of Donkervoort, a Dutch product. The last Dutch car brand, because spyker is gone.
Spyker's hanging on by their fingernails but they aren't gone just yet.
Fred Schriks No it's not, we've also got Vencer ;)
beunhaas102 Never heard of that..
+Fred Schriks Me neither. Looks like kind of Koenigsegg.
Today there isn´t much brands who made this cars.I love the Donkervoort because is estreme and pure handling
I like the fact that it doesn't look too aggressive.
That sound reminds me a lot of an R8 V10 or Gallardo. That additional cylinder per bank firing really makes a difference.
I haven't heard of Donkervoort since midtown madness
ABS, assisted brakes, and power steering aren't creature comforts, they didn't do away with them to lose weight...They didn't include them because they're all things that ruin a car and this is supposed to be a driver's car.
Yes, same reason TVR's didn't have it.
another fabulous film love the car of all the light weight boutique car makers this i think is my favorite one
Hell yah !! Finally someone did a proper review of a rate gem. I saw these things in the flesh and they are just an insane piece of kit. Proper drivers car and they even have another version of it in "coupe" form. Fine German engineering, and too bad its only available to Europe.
german engineering? do you need a map to see where the Netherlands is?
I did miss that part thank you for pointing that out.
647killa lol
***** not sure you can, not sure it meets any of the regulations you lot have over there. I know they are only just importing the caterhams there but its all in kit form

Donkervoort no comparison.. Amaizing Art
The pic of the enginebay at 2,33 is actually the 4 cylinder 1.8 20v turbo from earlier model. Not the 5 cylinder.
So you're telling me, you where in Holland...without telling and inviting me? :P
Donkervoort? BONKERvoort :)
Was a fan of Donkervoort since I was 12, with the D8 fitted with the Ford 220hp Cosworth engine, I always preferred its looks over those of Caterham and Westfield.
Sweet sounding wee runabout
I have the Lotus Seven I always wanted. It's a Caterham 7.
Me too!
nice to see the engineering done well
This thing looks Stellar! If I had one, the only thing I'd like to change is more power! Its pretty brisk but I like some scariness in a performance car! The Audi sounds great, always been a fan so maybe a bit louder, more abrasive exhaust, lol
Wow such beauty, beast and speed a unique yet somewhat affordable exotic car that is fast and uses parts that can be sourced at a local parts store .
Sold me at "audi 5 cylinder turbo and a manual gearbox" Caterham who?
the ones that use a supercharged duratec engine with sequential gearbox and limited slip diff.
oh also still more power to weight than the d8
paul torton That sounds fantastic indeed, but would I chose it over an audi inline 5 turbo, with a manual? Not a chance. The sound, power, let alone the novelty of the audi 5, going back to Class B rally racing, Audi Sport Quattro, RS2, 200 20V turbo, wicked cars with a wicked motor.

paul torton You've given me a great Idea! Lol
The biggest reason I love this car is the proper manual trans. I'm sure this handles as good as it looks. Thanks.
christdragon So it handles like shit?
the picture that was placed up when he was talking about a 5 cylinder looked more like the 4 cylinder...just saying
Taken right out of affordability which was the hook for the Caterham all along .
Robo cop would look so good in this thing
This car is the definition of badass
Nice! Like this car... may I have one. Only thing I might change would the the front grille. In my opinion it looks a bit like a riding lawnmower (front grille only)...Why does everyone have to have a negative opinion to share, sorry, really like the background of the manufacturer and what they have created. This is so much prettier and better sounding than a Caterham...I'd have one of these any day!
Gotta love those kinda cars :)
Any info on the music chosen for this vid? Especially the one after the introduction of the Donkervoort.
Great film!
Dope!
(sorry, couldn't resist)
I'll acknowledge the odd looks and the performance give this 7 descendent a pretty impressive presence. I'm glad it exists.

#lotus7
When the 'comfort like a Lotus' had become a compliment? xD
Really wish someone would make a Super7 that was legal in the U.S.!!!
Amazing car with amazing engine. And is ready fast on the track. Probably faster than 918.
I'm so happy for you
Badass car... i still prefer the seven 620R
I'd love one!!
Awesome car and the video, too! But what is the third company naming Lotus,Westfield, and then T... I am not a native English speaker and can not deduct, what company he is naming. Help, someone? Тhanks!
Love this! What a beast!
The description of this car from the journalist sounds identical to what an srt viper is as we'll
If it is about being intamate with your car then get a SLC kit car, made or do it your self! Light weight, powerfull and reliable, with the LS7. The best part is... people that aren't rich can own one!!!!
I think Donkervoort channeled Colin Chapman into the 21st century. And I think this car would please him.
Loved the video. This thing should be James Bond's next car :-)
Simply perfect machine, i love the car
Looked ugly until I finished watching the video... Looks fucking awesome now
Love it!! I want it!
Brilliant!
Thats a sweet car!! Never heard of the company before but that car looks pretty bitchin
Rear diffuser reminds me of RX-8
a dream car
Awesome car!..
I want one but the over negative camber would wear the front tyres out way too quick on English roads..
Love it.
Woooooooooow!!! Now THAT is a car!!!!!!!
I can most certainly dig it!
2:25 is that what they replace the airbag with? :P
Why not extract the full horsepower from that engine? Its capable of well over 500+ hp
I like it very much
I just like the noise
Sounds a lot like Audi Quattro.. which is amazing
It has an audi engine
I love this car but if I had one i would swap the Audi Turbocharged for a V8 or a twin turbo Straight six like the RB28TT and for the V8 the voodo engine in the GT350R
and ad 300 kilo and make the bonnet bigger.
Track weapon
whod need door or windscreen in a lightweight car ?!?
anyway, We really want to see it against Caterham 620 !
but Caterham still my first choice. 2.Westfield 3.Ariel 4.Radical ....
I would never consider Donkerwoort, but im glad it exists

well... i still prefer the 620r in terms of bonkers lightweight track cars.
I think im in love
I've never really understood why Caterham never modernised their look.
because it sells at it is
because a Seven isnt modern, and never will be, period....
C'mon, 380hp from that 2.5 TFSI is not extracting lots of performance, it can put out 470hp and 620nm with a uprated turbo&intercooler, exhaust and a tune by MTM. Of course, that would be fucking crazy in a 695kg car, but I'm just saying

Nah, you wouldn't need a turbo like they use on 900hp Evo Xs, nothing crazy just slightly bigger.
bototheone1
But why? No everything's about power and raw performance. Colin Chapman's concept was low weight, not big power. Lag, cost, usability is more important than that.
Then why do people get at least 400hp on that engine only with a quality tune but Donkervoort can't?
*****
The 2.5liter 5 cylinder Audi engine is already turbocharged from factory, producing 340hp in stock form.
I've heard of a short shift, but that's inane.
does it come in black?
The lady started talking then He got into the car. This dutch car looks kinda quirky, and no doubt is fast, but I'd still much rather have a Locost I built myself with a 400hp turbo four.
HUP HOLLAND
Looks great, By far the best looking car of the 7s type. But if im paying 100k, Im getting a GT3, Or an ACR.
Ps: Chang that god awfull name...
I can't see myself telling people my car is something called a Donkervoort
Read the title, saw the thumbnail, disagree already. Get me a seven 160 any day of the year, that's an awesome car. That's my 'before' impression, I'll be back...
'After' impression, that is the ugliest interpretation of the lotus seven I've ever seen

What's the name of the song playing at 0:50?
I had no idea this car existed until Forza 6
That airbag appears to have all the air already in it.
Donkervoort is the only car maker in Holland
its time you test the new GTO RS with 400 plus horsepower and more downforce
why would you spend double the price of the new 620r? this is slower round a track, heavier which means lower power to weight.
give me the 620r which is also rare, then 50 grand to spend on other toys
As far as i know, the 620r never held the Nürburgring lap record. Donkervoort did. Besides. there's something like quality, fit and finish.
More like Dankervoort :D
