Ken Tamplin is the best vocal coach I ever came across on RUclips. After singing for a couple years and basically being self taught with a bit of help from genetics cuz of my family having a music background with a lot of them being able to sing, I've searched all over RUclips (since that was all I could rely on cuz I'm only 17) to find a vocal coach that was gonna give me the facts and also show me how, while also embracing different genres and sounds. Ken does exactly that. wish I found his channel earlier in my singing journey.
Wow Ken. I’m so glad I never had to Karaoke that song. Like you said, that phrasing and timing is really harder than it seems. I’m not into karaoke stuff but I’ve done it and it’s just a good time in a bar. There are some unassuming great voices among the people in bars. (Some horrible ones too, but nobody’s judging, it’s all for fun.) And, since I’ve been in bands, mostly a guitarist but my voice is pretty good, I’ve fallen for the karaoke thing a few times. Mostly though, I’d rather watch other people sing. I think that’s so cool. One time in Hawaii I was at a bar, playing pool and ignoring the karaoke crowd, when this little Filipino lady got up there and everything just stopped. Her voice was so amazingly good! She wasn’t a trained singer, just a natural. A hotel housekeeper who sang like an angel. My friends know I can sing okay and said I should go next. Screw that man. She killed it! I’m not even touching that. She became kinda famous that day and I’m glad nobody tried to top her. It was her day and that made me smile. Playing guitar is way different than singing. It’s more mechanical and learned. Singing is scary. It’s baring your soul. You can’t cover a sharp or flat note without being awkward. People listen to shredder guitarists and think, wow. Someone singing though is completely different. You’re looking at that person in their most vulnerable state imaginable. When they pull it off, cheers beyond any guitar solo. Singing is baring your soul. It’s so much more powerful than playing an instrument. I knew this while I was just a guitar player. Singing now is my focus. That’s where it’s really at. And I thank you so much for helping me with the techniques and details in that. I’m a better singer because you showed me how to be. Peace and aloha my friend. 🤙🏼
Thanks for sharing the tips Ken a lot of times when I sing my favorite song or songs and it has high stuff in the song I'm trying to hit those high notes and top of my lungs my voice cracks all over the place out of my range sometimes I'm successful and sometimes I'm not but anyways it happens thanks I love that you playing the righteous brothers you've lost that loving feeling singing along with the person you love and the band or the song that's a good one to sing along with love how to sing your favorite song Ken 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Hey Ken! Well it's not YES and Jon Anderson, but you can't go wrong with You've Lost That Loving Feeling. Classic! Great vocals. Hope everyone has a rockin' and safe weekend!😎
I was trying to learn a really tough Kansas song, and to get it to where I was happy with it, I needed to break it down and learn it syllable by syllable. It still remains a work in progress...
Karaokeversion is an unbelievable service. I agree that I get a vastly different perspective of my own abilities when I hear the hired artist without all the effects as opposed to the original by a total rockstar. It’s a great way to see the layers or work out the harmonies in a song for a band situation.
Simply amazing Ken, you are always on point with these videos, such great pitch and also you keep it fun and exciting, instead of it being all square and not fun, because it should be fun and exciting so sing, not just feel like some chore. I´m excited to see, what song you decide to use next Ken, i bet it will be a good one. :)
Been watching your channel for some years now. Point being I took lessons 2 years 2002-2004 which saw me eventually fronting many different bands . From Heavy Metal , Blackened / Death Metal to oldschool New York style Hardcore . I can hack almost any aggressive vocal pattern . However I've always wanted to be able to sing as Coverdale , Dio and Jorn Lande . Could never get the melodic sound . I'm not tone deaf because I play bass and guitar ( bass primarily ) . For someone whom CA do nothing but growl from low to mid to very high . Is it possible to sing melodically with rasp ? After 20 years can't pull it off which drives me crazy . Does the program cover this area ? In other words reteach oneself completely ?
The goal, and I cover thoroughly in my singing course, is to learn to sing clean first and then integrate rasp after. If you try to go straight to Rasp you’ll forever sentence yourself to rasp and pinch and squeeze to get your notes and be very frustrated at your inconsistency.
Shame if your favourite song is "Tequila" by The Champs. We usually get the mostly drunk proprieter of our pub to "sing" it. He usually needs a tap on the back the 3 times he has to "sing". ;)
I found your website, which one should I sign up for? I'm not a terrible singer and I can sing some songs great but most come out blah. Im very "new" and would like to expand my voice and reach notes that I cannot hit and many more things. What's the difference between 2.0 or 3.0? Thank you!!
3.0 is over 3 years of questions asked about singing from 2.0 There are so many helps in 3.0 on every topic from these topics that volume 1 alone is considerably larger than all of 2.0 combined. AND, for those wanting a little more hand holding, 3.0 has daily regimens to walk you through the entire course.
I know this isn't quite in the genre of songs you do, but how about Unchained Melody by the Righteous Brothers, Bobby Hatfield for just a reaction or isolated vocals?
My favorite song is Rebellion In Dreamland by Gamma Ray. Ken what do you think of Judas Priest going on as a 4 piece I think it's a mistake they need to do the right thing and bring KK back in the band.
I have a problem with grinding my teeth while I sleep sometimes my jaw hurts and the pain kinda travels and tightness builds in my throat Towards the end of my set I can barely get the strength to keep singing.. is there any exercises I should use to help with this?
well...i really miss some of my favorite christian rock- and metalbands from the 80th and 90th...so far i'm surprised they got "To hell with the devil" and honestly by Stryper...
Hey Ken! I just started to sing and I’m watching all of your video’s now to build a good chest and head voice and after that I’m going to create a good bridge in between😎
When i sing along the song, i sing almost perfectly. But when i totaly isolate myself and sing, im immediately off the rhythm and my ups and downs are messed up. I just cant sing without a song and keep up the rhythm. I miss the cues and it drives me crazy.

So what about being able to sing your favorite song like Earth Wind & Fire Reasons... So the studio version Philip Bailey does not sing the high part but on the live/studio album Gratitude... So you said how to sing your favorite song but this sounds like a big song to sing for your first song... I would love to be able to hit the high part of the song would be nice. I would like to add the high part of this song in the studio version... This is the live song Reasons. He also studied baritone in College and his favorite singer was Dionne Warwick and learned to sing like other female singers. ruclips.net/video/XgyUjdNEVW0/видео.html

Rock on🤘🎶
i've been singing Ronnie Spector's walking in the rain for days, stuck in my head, she's my type of singing, rip Ronnie....

@@kentamplin Yes , I started out clean before using all that full blown rasp . Good advice and I appreciate it . I love a good challenge .
Unfortunately I have really bad associations with this song, so I’m looking forward to other videos like this.
The more favourite the better it works…
Hello, This is gonna help me so much!! Thank you so much 💓 💗

Hi! Please react to Stranger & Ave marya from Dimash. Thanks
Short question when I sing quietly it sounds worse than singing loud(recording this).
Is it normal or just wrong technique?
