  • This is a Halloween project I did that I really love.
    Frame Construction:
I took PVC pipe and made picture frames out of them and covered them in fabric painters tarp. The frames are roughly 5ft x 4ft each. I tied them to the house using some twine. I then zip tied plastic chains over the twine to give it more of a spooky feel. This also makes the frames stick out from the house and give the whole illusion more depth. I then put some spot lights in the corners just to help highlight the chains and the floating or the portraits a little better at night. There is an outdoor speaker under the middle portrait on the ground for the sound.
    Projection:
I used some video editing software to combine AtmosFX's Unliving Portraits, Creepy Crawlies 2, Blood Walls, and Phantasms together. I made each video a separate layer and made sure the portrait layers were in front of all the other layers. So the bugs, ghosts, and blood are always on the house and never running across my portraits and the portraits are always floating in the air over the rest.
I have caught kids and adults just sitting in the grass watching the video instead of trick-or-treating. I even had someone bring their dog and the dog kept chasing the mice at the bottom of the house when they would come on.
