      Wish you lived in Georgia or could make a video on doing valve covers for the 05 Maxima! It's going to be harder because there are 2...the rear is hard to get to

      Yea, working on 6-cylinder engines is a lot more challenging...
      When I was doing mine, I also coldn't find much info in how it's done. What really helped me was official Nissan repairs manual. It's good to have it if you like repairing most of the problems by yourself.

    My 2003 Altima was facing the same issue - oil leaking into the first cylinder (just like the video!), causing it to misfire. The clear instructions from this video allowed me to replace the valve cover gasket with no fuss or muss. And I am not a "car guy" who does this type of thing much. I really appreciate Temachok for putting this video together - much appreciated!!!!

    Perfect video for my car. Mine is a 2005, but has this exact issue. I will have to gather all the parts, including replacement spark plugs. This was really neglected when I bought it. It was running great until last week when this miss-firing issue started. I was assuming that the spark plugs just needed changing, but when I took one of the coils off and seen the oil in the well, then I knew I had a much bigger issue. Thank you for making this video. I seen your other video on how to clean out the oil from the wells and this one popped up after it was finished.

I just watched this for the heck of it but I have an 04 Saturn L300...a car that the manufacturer's decided to tuck half the spark plugs kind of deep (gotta remove gas lines and other things). *sigh* So, I'm watching a little bit of everyone's videos to help me out since few videos feature my car :) Thank you for this!

    Thank you so much. Have an 02 altima and noticed oil around the valve cover (outside of engine). Had a flashing SES light while driving causing major missfires. Removed the ignition coils and two sparkplug was filled with oiled. The gasket seal and spark plug tube seals are both bad. Now i know its a job i can do myself.

    • @darvil9210
      @darvil9210 8 лет назад

      +justin williams the spark plug tube seals are embedded into the valve cover and can't purchase them separately. If you have bad tube seals you need to get a new valve cover.

    Yes. It is possible to replace the well seals on the valve cover. The auto parts store sells the kits. You gave to use a hole saw 1 3/4 to remove the old ones. I have done that. You make a wood jig with the hole then you center it to the seal. Very easy. The new seals are $8 bucks a kit.

      I actually was gonna say that, but then I noticed they don't say anything about it in the repair manual. It's not essential since we are replacing both valve cover and the gasket, cuz you don't have to worry about damaging them.

    I like it because very little cut & editing on the video.
    Next time don't buy Nissan & Infiniti because they will not sell you just the gaskets & tube seals (spark plug gasket).
    You have to buy the Value Covers and then two gaskets with can run over $900 in parts.
    Again, nice video that you also showed us the torque specs while many do not.

      +Temachok Working on an Infiniti G45 and Nissan 350Z are no fun.
      Valve cover on these are over $400.00+/each, you have to buy many gaskets.
      Aston Martin, Ferrari and Porsche are nightmares.

      +Temachok The Altima valve covers are little bit easier to get at than those other high end craps.
      You may want to replace the water pump & not the timing because yours has a timing chain.
      Again, nicely done & showing us & taking your time out for us.

    Nice job and great editing!, mine is leaking next to Thermostat housing (2001 Chevy Metro LSI - but is oil so...
    I replaced With kit but following stupid OEM directions per Costless employee advice, finding out hard way, it slow leaks to outside EVEN MORE!
    Re-doing Permatex Hi-Temp (650F) Gasket Sealant (Red).
    I liked the way you smeared it after applying to 2nd bottom-engine block, and I will do the same.
    Update: So sealant went great but wasn't the Oil Leak problem, because it's still leaking and more apparent now. It's leaking from outside the valve area down from underneath (Magnetivity/Gravity) directly from highest area...the Sensor directly ABOVE the Thermostat Housing; catching onto the bolt-on metal ledge of Thermostat area. Don't know the exact name but EXACT problem and pic can be found on the Blog covering the problem..... geometroforum.com/thermostat-housing-leak-t30186.html

      It was my oil sensor O-Ring area seal basically exactly like bad seals in vid but bigger ...costless tried to match it but just couldn’t and that SEAL ONLY COMES IN $75 entire engine seal & gasket kit for rebuilds, breaking-down entire engine block, A different long time experienced employee this time said he would trust Permatex high-temp sealant over a new OEM RUBBERY SEAL NOT made for long-term anyway...I agreed, made a heavy duty fat seal squeezed into round groove, stopped leak, headed to Hollywood south driving 1,000 miles 10-days ago, and still running strong!

    Do not put silicone between the valve cover and the gasket. This will make the next replacement nearly impossible. Does not add any additional protection. Add only on the corners of cylinder head surfaces.

      You can put some gasket maker around spark plug tubes to stop oil from leaking out. It may not work if O-shaped seals already fell off like it was in my case. In any case, replace valve cover as soon as possible.

    great video, thanks for posting it, I am a going to try it on my 95 Altima, it looks a little different under the hood but pretty much the same set up, I noticed valve gasket started leaking oil all over my engine.

    • @DIYtime
      @DIYtime  10 лет назад

      How did it go? Any different from how it's done on my model?

    • @PSthefirst1
      @PSthefirst1 10 лет назад

      I have been searching online to find the part. So far I have found 2 places that have it, this week I am going to order it and give it a try. My engine is the 2.4 L, pretty much the same Altima engine for the 92-99 model years. I believe your engine is slightly different but the same when it comes to the gasket. Thanks for asking. I appreciate that. I will let you know how it goes when I do it.

      @DIYtime  10 лет назад

      Yours is probably doesn't require valve cover to be replaced. You'll only need to get the gasket and o-rings. On mine o-rings are imbedded in valve cover and this is $140 extra right there. For you it should be only around $20 for parts.

    Thanks much for the video, I do appreciate that you also posted the torque specs.
    Is it possible for you to post one for 2006-2015 Nissan Frontier and also how to change the tappet seals ( valve stem seals ).

      When I was doing mine, I bought repairs manual digital download. It had all instructions and torque specs.
      Unfortunately, I don't have a repair manual for your car, it was only for 2007 Altima.
      But if you do a lot of DIY repairs, you can find a repair manual for your specific car here:

    well done video sir! I will be fixing myself thanks to your video. One question though: what did you mean at the end, after you had tightened up the bolts, about it being done in 2 steps? Thanks!

    • @DIYtime
      @DIYtime  7 лет назад

      Don't tighten them all the way in right away.
      First tighten them all to the first spec, then finish tightening all the way. This is done to prevent overtightening on any one side when gasket gets misplaced or warped.

    Wow, this is much easier than the 07-12 Nissan Altima. It's so stupid that you have to take an engine mount off to replace the valve cover.

      Did you also replace the gasket?
      Did you have the smoke before?

    What did you clean the contact surface of the valve gasket with? Are you supposed to clean it with something (acetone, break cleaner, etc.) before you place a new gasket, or just clean the debris of the old gasket? Thank you for the informative film.

    • @DIYtime
      @DIYtime  4 года назад +1

      Depends on gasket maker brand you using. Just follow whatever it says in installation instructions.

    • @olenaerhardt7725
      @olenaerhardt7725 4 года назад

      @@DIYtime Thank you. I think they usually sell gaskets without instructions, but what I saw online, everyone cleans it with something like acetone or (mostly) break cleaner. I'll try to contact the seller though. I purchased the whole set of gasket for Engine Block, no instructions inside. It is important to know, that might be different cleaning process depending on the type of the gasket. Yes, seller should know, thank you again. We also have Nissan Sentra 2009. your film is very helpful.

    One thing...for newbs...when tightening, make sure you use in-lbs, not ft-lbs. My dumbass used ft-lbs and broke 2 of the bolts off. I didnt know in-lbs existed and screwed up.

      You can buy official Nissan repair manual on eBay for about $6 for your specific year and model.

      Lucky you. I had to spend extra $150...
      You probably have different engine modification or aftermarket valve cover.
      Mine were embedded into the valve cover.
      Are you in US or Europe?

    • @FutureBeatle
      @FutureBeatle 9 лет назад

      US, and its not after market. It has Nissan logo on top of it. The four spark plugs seal gaskets are aftermarket only.

      Try to soak it up using paper towel or cloth. User screw driver or wire to get to the very bottom.
      You can also blow it out if your have a compressor.
