As a fellow southerner, being from Louisville, Kentucky, I have a deep and heartfelt appreciation for the spoken word poured out like a mixture of butter and molasses on one of grandma’s buttermilk biscuits. I have my coffee black; no milk, cream, sugar, or flavorings. I like my pipe tobacco the same. Of course, the aromatics fill a room with a sweet odor, which the ladies love. The fair sex often complain vociferously at the smell produced by the good old English blends, so if you want a smoke in the house (perhaps because outside is raging a hailstorm, a heavy snowfall, or a rabid raccoon), you can avoid another type of storm indoors by the simple expedient of filling your bowl with something redolent of a peach orchard, a cherry bush, a Parisian perfumy scent, or the like. Odd that my wife was fine with my English blends when we were newlyweds; but now that forty-seven years have come and gone, her scent sensibilities have undergone a change. And corn cobs--love 'em and have ten or so. Absolutely take one on your next fishing trip.

Watched you last night with Brother George, a very good interview!!! You are absolutely correct that aromatics work wonderfully well with cobs. I have a "Devil Anse" and "Country Gentleman" cob; both of which I enjoy immensely. I smoke a pipe for the simple, sentimental reason that my grandfather smoked a pipe and it hearkens me back to happier days. I do believe I will gain great enjoyment from further videos on your channel!!!
We share that in common my friend. My Grandfather also smoked a pipe and my fondest memories were Saturday mornings at his house with the smell of aromatic tobacco and sausage cooking. It was the 80s.....when life was normal.

I had just found your channel because I am 23 years old and I have been smoking pipes since I was about 19. I am not going to be a hypocrite, I do still smoke cigarettes every now and then but it is in fact not the same reason I light up my pipe. I have Savinellis, Dunhills, Tinskys, Heeschen, Preben, S.Bang and other Danish pipes, but the pipes I smoke the most are Missouri Meerchaums filled woth Lanes 1Q or one of Boswell's aromatic blends and I apologize to no one. Great video from a new subscriber!
My favorite as well is from a near by tobacconist, JM Boswell. I was called eclectic, which I take as a compliment, because I like both high quality Aromatic and English blends. I like briars and cobbs, and depending on my mood I switch around. This is a wonderful hobby, which I find wonderful as there is a world of experience and knowledge to be had. Lately, I've been wanting to try smoking a pipe again and I might go the simple route - with a cheap corncob and an aromatic tobacco. This is my first time watching one of your videos. Just picked up my first pipe. A Corn Cob made by Missouri Meerschaum. I've had a functioning Bilbo Baggins pipe for years, but i smoked other "pipeweed" in it. As i watch this video, I am smoking some Viking Fleet from my local Cigar Cigar store. While sipping an old fashioned made with Woodford Reserve Double Oak. Whiskey made predominately from corn and a corn cob pipe. Doesn't get much more American than that. It's a nice way to start my pipe smoking journey and spend the start of my 34th birthday.
Tom Swayer Huck Fin a la Mark Twain always bring me back to the cob...a different time indeed but the most American no doubt! As for Arros only a select few make the mark and if you can find one that you can taste & smell without the chemicals...you landed some gold no doubt! So far Rattrays Exotic Orange holds the title for my taste buds. Enjoy!
Thank you for making this video. I think what makes the corncob pipe special is it shows our resourcefulness, which was something that early settlers had to learn when coming to this country. As far as tobacco preferences, I prefer aromatics over English blend tobacco.The room note is more agreeable when I smoke it.
I love my cobs just as much as any of my pipes. And my go to everyday smoke is Lane RLP-6, or Mac Baren Seven Seas. Both American style aromatic. Completely inoffensive to anyone in the vicinity, and doesn’t stink up my clothes. Works well in any pipe.
As per your suggestion in another video, I made my way to Paul's in Flint and I purchased Arrowhead and a Vanilla aromatic that they blend in shop and it is delightful. I've yet to purchase a corncob pipe, but after viewing this I'll likely add one of these pieces of Americana to my collection. Thanks as always for your thoughts and time.

My brother brought me a couple of corn cob pipes all the way back to Scotland from his holiday in America a few years ago. I often look at them, but haven't actually tried them yet. After seeing your wonderful description of the pipes and aromatic tobacco I'm gonna give it a go. 👍
@@sunset3052 I tried pipe smoking in one of the cobs and loved it, so I went and bought some briar and Meerschaum pipes as well. I have a couple of Savinelli estate pipes that I've restored and they smoke wonderfully. The Meerschaums are fine as well, but I don't see what all the fuss is about them. 🫤 So even though I have about a dozen pipes now, the cobs are still very much in my rotation and I really enjoy smoking them.

@@sunset3052 That's good. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do. One of my cobs was very tall, so I cut it down by 25mm, and I also drilled out the mouthpiece so I could fit a 9mm filter into it. I also put a thin coating of honey on the inside of my cobs, just to get a bit of a cake started. I reckon they'd be prone to burning out otherwise.

I made myself a mini cob from an ear I dried out from last years garden and a pecan twig. It’s about four inches long could’ve been longer and taller but I ran out of material. Going to dry out a few more ears this year and try again.
I think the cob pipe does fit the bill for aromatics. It seems to absorb the moisture better and allows the tobacco to burn better. The drier English or non-aromatic types seem to do better in briar type pipes, at least for me it does. I have noticed that the aromatics seem to make me hungry versus the drier blends.

Aromatics are fine in a briar too and the room note is often more pleasant if non smokers are in the room. Love the Peterson Aromatics - my favourite is Connoisseurs Choice.
I too am from the south and have fond memories of my grandparents smoking cobs full of Prince Albert. I loved the smell. I only smoke cobs and rarely smoke anything but PA. I love your videos and it’s refreshing to here a young man who still has a southern accent.

Years ago when I first started smoking a pipe I started with corncobs, for it was all I could afford. Bought many of them. Years later saved up for briar pipes. So working on acquiring them. Love Northwoods by Boswells, reminds me of Frog Morton.
I know im a little late to be commenting on this but i still wanted to say thanks for this video. Im 24 and never touched tobacco until 3 weeks ago, I had bought a corn cob pipe when i was with a friend. He tried to talk me out of a "Shitty corn cob" and to get a Briar like his, but i chose a cob anyways and after some practice i fell in love with my cob. I have a Missouri Meerschaum Pony Express.
Man we are like right on the same page here about how blenders tease the natural flavor out of the tobacco with how they case and top their blend. Masterfully....
Great thoughts, I love corn cobs I love the fact you can still get an American made product with so much history. I have a M.M. bent apple that I put a straight stem on and stained it maple colored, it looks a lot like the one in this video but not as cool a stem.
I have been rewatching your posts of late on both RUclips and Instagram. Looking forward to more content after your family has settled into your new home. Your register and cadence when speaking for me lends itself to pipe smoking. You had mentioned, in another video, that the new home represented a dream home and I wanted to share with you that my wife and I have recently been blessed with an opportunity to purchase a home we have always wanted. The original home is log and was built onsite in 1773. By way of a bonus the house comes with the original hand written land grant from Lord Fairfax. You may have guessed by that we are located in the historic Commonwealth of Virginia. The beautiful Shenandoah Valley to be more specific. We are very excited to be closing on that property at the end of this month and begin our time preserving this piece of history. Thank you for what you have created with the Old Carolina Pipe Cottage and I look forward to hearing and learning more from you in the future.
I actually prefer cobs now for all of my smoking. I have some pipes I've made, cherry (inspired by Ropp) with Missouri Meerschaum stems, that I also enjoy. They are simple like a cob, but a little more classy in looks. Cherry is a great wood for a pipe bowl. I'm always interested in a good smoke, and I'd like to have your recommendations for good aromatics. I too hate the chemical taste. Thank you.

Hey brother, just discovered your channel and let me tell you, it is great 👌. Am 41 this year and an avid woodsman, for me there's nothing quite like being outdoors in nature. I smoke rolling tobacco and don't get me wrong, i love it, but this year my resolution is to stop smoking cigarettes and move to the world of pipe smoking, not only for the diferente tobaccos and flavours but because i really enjoy smoking. Corn cub pipes is something that i have been reading and looking at for a wild but didn't made myself up to get one and just given a try, mostly because the world of pipe smoking is completely different from what i am used to. So many blends, flavours and brands that i have to admit that is a bit intimidating lol. Since i watch your video about corn cubs and aromatic tobacco, can i ask for guidance or advice on a good pipe for me to take on my hiking and camping adventures and a good tobacco to start my journey in the world of pipe smoking and pipe tobacco. I have SEVERAL Corn Cob pipes. I love em. Some of the cheaper variety, Pony Express and the Eaton and some higher end cobs. You need the Let Freedom Ring pipe from MM
I'm smoking some GL Pease Sextant in a Missouri Meerschaum Kingston Judge pipe. Wonderful tobacco. Also aromatic, though some would argue that it's not in a good way. But I like it.
New to the Channel, love the content so far. In one of your videos you mentioned Boswell's in Chambersburg, PA. My wife is from near there and her father got a pipe in their shop many years ago, a Butz-Choquin. I have since inherited that pipe and it is a very special piece in the meager but growing collection. When I saw the title of this video, I immediately reached for an estate Missouri Meerschaum, one of 2 that I own, and packed in some Autumn Evening, while watching. Great topics and great presentation. Well done!
Great video can't wait to see more content. Sad to see walnut maple pie out if stock but I'll survive till you restock it. Swr aromatic is a surprisingly non chemical sweet smoke if you haven't had it it us a nice change of pace.
Just a couple of things I'd like to say here. First, I can already tell I'm really going to enjoy your channel & I'm looking forward to future content. Your delivery takes me back to my roots in East Tennessee, your cadence reminds me of my great & great great grand parents, long gone but not forgotten, and a few fire & brimstone preachers I knew in my youth. Speaking of old tv shows, even the content of your videos reminds me of a long running locally produced program I grew up on called The Heartland Series which was about the culture of Appalachia. Finally, with regard to the topic at hand, you've sold me on revisiting aromatics, but this time with one of my MM cobs. With the exception, like you said, of a few from my local B&M stores, I never could learn to like aromatics, even smoking some of the better brands you mentioned here I found only consistent disappointment. Now after watching this video I'm wondering, "Did I even try them in a cob?" I think I owe it to myself to give it another try & I can thank you for making the connection for me.
While watching this I am smoking a MM Country Gentleman filled with a locally blended aromatic called Rum Runner - a blend of Virginia & Cavendish that is flavoured with a buttered rum.
A light burley such as Carter Hall is the best for a cob IMO. The pipe itself adds a light sweetness that goes well with the mild nuttiness of the burley.
Can you talk about your lighters that you prefer? You've talked all about the pipe and the type of blends that you like to smoke. It seems pipers don't talk about their lighters that they use, and I feel that's just as Important as smoking the pipe as well. I love your videos; I just had my first smoke two days ago. I didn't think I'd like it as much as I did. I smoked my own blend that I created with mug ward, saint john's wart, peppermint, raspberry leaf, and nettle. It was a good blend. I really enjoyed it.
Don’t forget codger blends! Prince Albert, carter hall, half and half, sir Walter Raleigh, and granger are elevated in a cob versus a briar! Corn cob is in my mind a condiment, that fits certain blends (burleys and cavendish) best!
Back when I first started smoking a pipe, aromatics were the only blends I liked. I didn't like English at all. Well, I eventually got the Plum Pudding blend and though it wasn't my favorite, it was tolerable and smoked it once a month or so. Gradually, I grew to like it and eventually began branching into stronger blends until I decided to go back to and English blend that I tried early on, the Sutliff Majestic English and I love it now. Back when I first started, I hated it, but now it's one of my favorites.

Hey! I'm from Poland and I've enjoyed this video. It was interesting to watch. While I used to have a pipe when I was younger, I never truly got into it. Lately, I've been wanting to try smoking a pipe again and I might go the simple route - with a cheap corncob and an aromatic tobacco. Perhaps I should pair it with a glass of american bourbon, while listening to american country music ;)

This is my first time watching one of your videos. Just picked up my first pipe. A Corn Cob made by Missouri Meerschaum. I've had a functioning Bilbo Baggins pipe for years, but i smoked other "pipeweed" in it. As i watch this video, I am smoking some Viking Fleet from my local Cigar Cigar store. While sipping an old fashioned made with Woodford Reserve Double Oak. Whiskey made predominately from corn and a corn cob pipe. Doesn't get much more American than that. It's a nice way to start my pipe smoking journey and spend the start of my 34th birthday.
Startin my day with French Market Coffee & Chicory and my Cobbit Shire filled with Peterson's Irish Cask. All is well with the world!😉
Tom Swayer Huck Fin a la Mark Twain always bring me back to the cob...a different time indeed but the most American no doubt! As for Arros only a select few make the mark and if you can find one that you can taste & smell without the chemicals...you landed some gold no doubt! So far Rattrays Exotic Orange holds the title for my taste buds. Enjoy!
Thank you for making this video. I think what makes the corncob pipe special is it shows our resourcefulness, which was something that early settlers had to learn when coming to this country.
As far as tobacco preferences, I prefer aromatics over English blend tobacco.The room note is more agreeable when I smoke it.
I love my cobs just as much as any of my pipes. And my go to everyday smoke is Lane RLP-6, or Mac Baren Seven Seas. Both American style aromatic. Completely inoffensive to anyone in the vicinity, and doesn’t stink up my clothes. Works well in any pipe.

As per your suggestion in another video, I made my way to Paul's in Flint and I purchased Arrowhead and a Vanilla aromatic that they blend in shop and it is delightful. I've yet to purchase a corncob pipe, but after viewing this I'll likely add one of these pieces of Americana to my collection. Thanks as always for your thoughts and time.
Thanks for another wonderful video! I agree, there is nothing more American than an aromatic tobacco in a corn cob pipe. I appreciate you calling out the agricultural nature of the products. I feel that this is something that is often overlooked in conversations about pipes and tobacco, and it is good to be reminded of it periodically. Take care!
My brother brought me a couple of corn cob pipes all the way back to Scotland from his holiday in America a few years ago.
I often look at them, but haven't actually tried them yet.

I tried pipe smoking in one of the cobs and loved it, so I went and bought some briar and Meerschaum pipes as well.
I have a couple of Savinelli estate pipes that I've restored and they smoke wonderfully. The Meerschaums are fine as well, but I don't see what all the fuss is about them. 🫤
So even though I have about a dozen pipes now, the cobs are still very much in my rotation and I really enjoy smoking them.

One of my cobs was very tall, so I cut it down by 25mm, and I also drilled out the mouthpiece so I could fit a 9mm filter into it.
I also put a thin coating of honey on the inside of my cobs, just to get a bit of a cake started. I reckon they'd be prone to burning out otherwise.
@@the.just.able.biker67 Thanks. I like the size of Diplomat; Country Gentleman is a bit tall to me. I prefer small size bowls. I can always have another bowl if I like (which I did earlier today).
I made myself a mini cob from an ear I dried out from last years garden and a pecan twig. It’s about four inches long could’ve been longer and taller but I ran out of material. Going to dry out a few more ears this year and try again.
I think the cob pipe does fit the bill for aromatics. It seems to absorb the moisture better and allows the tobacco to burn better.
The drier English or non-aromatic types seem to do better in briar type pipes, at least for me it does.
I have noticed that the aromatics seem to make me hungry versus the drier blends.

Aromatics are fine in a briar too and the room note is often more pleasant if non smokers are in the room. Love the Peterson Aromatics - my favourite is Connoisseurs Choice.
I too am from the south and have fond memories of my grandparents smoking cobs full of Prince Albert. I loved the smell. I only smoke cobs and rarely smoke anything but PA. I love your videos and it’s refreshing to here a young man who still has a southern accent.

Years ago when I first started smoking a pipe I started with corncobs, for it was all I could afford. Bought many of them. Years later saved up for briar pipes. So working on acquiring them. Love Northwoods by Boswells, reminds me of Frog Morton.

I know im a little late to be commenting on this but i still wanted to say thanks for this video. Im 24 and never touched tobacco until 3 weeks ago, I had bought a corn cob pipe when i was with a friend. He tried to talk me out of a "Shitty corn cob" and to get a Briar like his, but i chose a cob anyways and after some practice i fell in love with my cob. I have a Missouri Meerschaum Pony Express.
Man we are like right on the same page here about how blenders tease the natural flavor out of the tobacco with how they case and top their blend. Masterfully....
Great thoughts, I love corn cobs I love the fact you can still get an American made product with so much history. I have a M.M. bent apple that I put a straight stem on and stained it maple colored, it looks a lot like the one in this video but not as cool a stem.
I have been rewatching your posts of late on both RUclips and Instagram. Looking forward to more content after your family has settled into your new home. Your register and cadence when speaking for me lends itself to pipe smoking.
You had mentioned, in another video, that the new home represented a dream home and I wanted to share with you that my wife and I have recently been blessed with an opportunity to purchase a home we have always wanted. The original home is log and was built onsite in 1773. By way of a bonus the house comes with the original hand written land grant from Lord Fairfax. You may have guessed by that we are located in the historic Commonwealth of Virginia. The beautiful Shenandoah Valley to be more specific. We are very excited to be closing on that property at the end of this month and begin our time preserving this piece of history.

I actually prefer cobs now for all of my smoking. I have some pipes I've made, cherry (inspired by Ropp) with Missouri Meerschaum stems, that I also enjoy. They are simple like a cob, but a little more classy in looks. Cherry is a great wood for a pipe bowl. I'm always interested in a good smoke, and I'd like to have your recommendations for good aromatics. I too hate the chemical taste. Thank you.
I smoke my first cobs this week, both Missouri Meershaums and both inaugural bowls were Carter Hall. Very impressed with their smoking characteristics. It’s nice to ring the changes with both different pipes and tobaccos. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. All the best from Scotland 🏴 Garry

A lot of wisdom here. I have a number of pipes. But my favorite is a cob with a bamboo stem/bit. And Peaches and Cream is one of my favorite tobaccos.

Am 41 this year and an avid woodsman, for me there's nothing quite like being outdoors in nature.
I smoke rolling tobacco and don't get me wrong, i love it, but this year my resolution is to stop smoking cigarettes and move to the world of pipe smoking, not only for the diferente tobaccos and flavours but because i really enjoy smoking.
Corn cub pipes is something that i have been reading and looking at for a wild but didn't made myself up to get one and just given a try, mostly because the world of pipe smoking is completely different from what i am used to.
So many blends, flavours and brands that i have to admit that is a bit intimidating lol.
Since i watch your video about corn cubs and aromatic tobacco, can i ask for guidance or advice on a good pipe for me to take on my hiking and camping adventures and a good tobacco to start my journey in the world of pipe smoking and pipe tobacco.

I have SEVERAL Corn Cob pipes. I love em. Some of the cheaper variety, Pony Express and the Eaton and some higher end cobs. You need the Let Freedom Ring pipe from MM
I'm smoking some GL Pease Sextant in a Missouri Meerschaum Kingston Judge pipe. Wonderful tobacco. Also aromatic, though some would argue that it's not in a good way. But I like it.

New to the Channel, love the content so far. In one of your videos you mentioned Boswell's in Chambersburg, PA. My wife is from near there and her father got a pipe in their shop many years ago, a Butz-Choquin. I have since inherited that pipe and it is a very special piece in the meager but growing collection. When I saw the title of this video, I immediately reached for an estate Missouri Meerschaum, one of 2 that I own, and packed in some Autumn Evening, while watching. Just a couple of things I'd like to say here. First, I can already tell I'm really going to enjoy your channel & I'm looking forward to future content. Your delivery takes me back to my roots in East Tennessee, your cadence reminds me of my great & great great grand parents, long gone but not forgotten, and a few fire & brimstone preachers I knew in my youth. Speaking of old tv shows, even the content of your videos reminds me of a long running locally produced program I grew up on called The Heartland Series which was about the culture of Appalachia. Finally, with regard to the topic at hand, you've sold me on revisiting aromatics, but this time with one of my MM cobs. With the exception, like you said, of a few from my local B&M stores, I never could learn to like aromatics, even smoking some of the better brands you mentioned here I found only consistent disappointment. Now after watching this video I'm wondering, "Did I even try them in a cob?" I think I owe it to myself to give it another try & I can thank you for making the connection for me.

While watching this I am smoking a MM Country Gentleman filled with a locally blended aromatic called Rum Runner - a blend of Virginia & Cavendish that is flavoured with a buttered rum.
My favorite aro G&H American Delite only goes in my cobs! Nothing else does it like that combo for me when it comes to aros.
A light burley such as Carter Hall is the best for a cob IMO. The pipe itself adds a light sweetness that goes well with the mild nuttiness of the burley.
Can you talk about your lighters that you prefer? You've talked all about the pipe and the type of blends that you like to smoke. It seems pipers don't talk about their lighters that they use, and I feel that's just as Important as smoking the pipe as well. I love your videos; I just had my first smoke two days ago. I didn't think I'd like it as much as I did. I smoked my own blend that I created with mug ward, saint john's wart, peppermint, raspberry leaf, and nettle. It was a good blend. I really enjoyed it.

Don’t forget codger blends! Prince Albert, carter hall, half and half, sir Walter Raleigh, and granger are elevated in a cob versus a briar! Corn cob is in my mind a condiment, that fits certain blends (burleys and cavendish) best!
Back when I first started smoking a pipe, aromatics were the only blends I liked. I didn't like English at all. Well, I eventually got the Plum Pudding blend and though it wasn't my favorite, it was tolerable and smoked it once a month or so. Gradually, I grew to like it and eventually began branching into stronger blends until I decided to go back to and English blend that I tried early on, the Sutliff Majestic English and I love it now. Back when I first started, I hated it, but now it's one of my favorites.
Rivendell is my fav tobacco on the planet.

Just found your channel and watched a couple of videos, very good. Was very interested in the Sea Wolf customize corn cob pipe. I looked it up but everything was in a foreign language and I could not identify the corn cobs. Do you have any suggestions?
