There was an old Kreigsmarine submariner who said that when U-boats returned from patrol, they were greeted by a band playing "The Stars and Stripes Forever", only they did not know the name of the piece or that it was an American martial song, just a lively piece of music! The sailors had added their own salty German lyrics, that involved Bier and sex.

The visiting United States Marine Band was led by Colonel John R. *Bourgeois*. It's times like this where I can't help but think that the universe has a sense of humor. I wonder if the players of the Marine Band made jokes about their conductor's name while they were visiting the Soviet Union.

The Soviets had this one coming through (impressed and shocked even at this point), Then i respected them even more after this. And now I kinda love this version/rendition, it's a nice but it's more smoother and with a lower volume (the quality probably) than with the original though. But I like it still! Like the original, Pretty lowkey nice!
There is that beautiful Russian horn sound in the Break strain. The piccolo player did a great job, too. The trombones were a little weak on the final part of the march, though!
It's really kinda ironic and weridly strange that the fact that this played literally by the Soviets in the Soviet Union, although because this was Gorbachev's rule/era. It's allowed it
I feel so happy to see the Soviets smiling after listening to our Music, After all we are to them one smile from a former enemy makes it truly special over one song played by all the branches of the Soviet Forces.
It's stuff like this that makes me sad, because the US and USSR were really growing closer together near the end of the cold war. I think if not allies we would have retained mutual respect and cooperation. The collapse was a catastrophe.
The collapse was needed but what came after was a major disaster. Now the Russian people are suffering under Putin and hopefully they will rise up and overthrow him.

Well as the story goes, during John Philip Sousa's and his wife memorable visit to Italy, the humourous Italians claimed that "The Stars and Stripes Forever March" was arranged by a well-known Italian composer named "Giovanni Filippo Sousa". This just goes to show that music can bridge the gap between different cultures and bring people together, no matter where they come from.
@김범석 This song isn't theirs! It's Ours! "The Stars & Stripes Forever" is the Official National March of The United States. USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA!
Not just the army, but the air force (blue uniforms) and navy (white tunics, striped shirts). They all did a good job. I would've liked to have seen what the Marine Corps band performed in response, but alas. In any case, the Soviet Union is history, and that's for the good. Now if only the world could be rid of Putin and his gangsters....
No offense to your opinion, because the Soviets did a commendable performance. But if you've ever heard the USMC or the US Army field bands play the Stars and Stripes Forever, in particularly live, I think you would change your opinion.
Okay now I have seen everything, Very well done, the Russian's playing Stars and Stripes forever, amazing.

Amazing how, at 3:38, the Soviet soldiers begin clapping pretty enthusiastically. Music truly does extend beyond all boundaries.

It is really cool seeing the various other instruments the Red Army Band uses in their music, such as mandolin/banjo, acordian, even strings
it’s not a banjo, it’s a balalaika
Those were the marines with the Banjo. Strings are commonly used in stars and stripes forever also.
That music can put a smile on anyone’s face 🙂
That was FANTASTIC. The Soviet military band sounds great. In my opinion, this is the greatest song/piece ever done.
I admire their band's discipline and their comprehension to the notes of the musical piece..
Awesome rendition. When was this shot? The dynamics are very good! I like seeing the two flags side by side. It’s the best way.
1990.
I agree
Just those 2 flags being side by side makes me feel happy and at the same time sad...
Звучит красиво, но если учесть контекст тех лет - становится грустно
Ironic...

Well, it does sound a bit like Rossini.
I wonder if this particular arrangement was written by General Nikolai Mikhaylov? I’d love to get my hands on it if so.
Absolutely 💯 beautiful and the best ever rendition of Sousa’s amazing tune 😊. RIP Soviet Union and remember you were a legend of a nation too.

If only Russia and America were this close today.

Gorbachev had his people frantically working to preserve the CCCP.
This wont be happening in 2024😢

better than the Americans.
This brings memories of when the QUEEN asked the Cold Spring Guard to play our national anthem in front of the palace on 9-11.

lol
I don't think they did bad but I kind of like the original better myself.

America made the song though
MANDOU MELHOR QUE BANDAS AMERICANAS...
The american band was playing too they were on the stage stupid
Even the Soviets get hyped for this song. Too bad the dems are triggered by it.
Imagine Politicizing a United States Military march. No ones triggered by it. Its a song Americans love.
