There was an old Kreigsmarine submariner who said that when U-boats returned from patrol, they were greeted by a band playing "The Stars and Stripes Forever", only they did not know the name of the piece or that it was an American martial song, just a lively piece of music! The sailors had added their own salty German lyrics, that involved Bier and sex.

The visiting United States Marine Band was led by Colonel John R. *Bourgeois*.
It's times like this where I can't help but think that the universe has a sense of humor.
I wonder if the players of the Marine Band made jokes about their conductor's name while they were visiting the Soviet Union.

Well as the story goes, during John Philip Sousa's and his wife memorable visit to Italy, the humourous Italians claimed that "The Stars and Stripes Forever March" was arranged by a well-known Italian composer named "Giovanni Filippo Sousa". This just goes to show that music can bridge the gap between different cultures and bring people together, no matter where they come from.
