Every band moves on with their material etc, but for me in 1982, this was maiden, young, energetic, and full on. Learning the drums, Clive Burr was my inspiration.
"Genghis Khan" was one of the ultimate drumbeats I've ever heard in a hard rock and metal song. "Purgatory" from the classic 1981 album is also top notch

¡Bravo!

Man I wish I could've been young enough to see Maiden and other bands back in the 80s. No sea of phones glowing or any other bullshit, just a good time with the best bands to ever play.
Was an AWESOME time to be a teenager! Saw many of the big metal bands in their heyday! But the cool thing is, quite a number of them are still putting stuff out. Never saw Motorhead until '96, but got to see them about 7-8 times. Same with Saxon. Saxon is still putting out a new release every year or two and touring quite a bit. They've become my FAVORITE band! I think they and Motorhead were in a competition to see who could release the most studio CD's before calling it quits!
I thought Saxon quit in the late 80's, then rediscovered them in the late 90's. The stuff they put out in the 90's and beyond is actually a bit heavier for the most part, than their 80's stuff. I burned TWICE on the chance to see them in 2005(they couldn't get work visas for their US tour and I had tix-was going to drive 300miles to Cleveland from Ontario!), 2008 (passports became mandatory and the only festival I could get tix in time for in Iowa was cancelled-was going to take a 1000mile road trip on my bike!). Finally got to see them in 2011 twice, then 2013. Had tix for their 2015 show near Detroit and my girl crashed her bike the day before! Saw them a few times since though!
Every band moves on with their material etc, but for me in 1982, this was maiden, young, energetic, and full on. Learning the drums, Clive Burr was my inspiration.

David Gilmour from PF and Adam Jones from Tool as well.

Christhian, usted sabe la fecha exacta de esa presentacion?
[Verse 1]
I remember it as plain as day
Although it happened in the dark of the night
I was strolling through the streets of Paris
And it was cold it was starting to rain
And then I heard a piercing scream
And I rushed to the scene of the crime
But all I found was the butchered remains
Of two girls lay side by side
[Chorus]
Murders in the Rue Morgue
Someone call the Gendarmes
Murders in the Rue Morgue
Flee before the killers go free
[Verse 2]
There's some people coming down the street
At last someone heard my call
Can't understand why they're pointing at me
I never done nothing at all
But I got some blood on my hands
Because everyone's shouting at me
I can't speak French so I couldn't explain
And like a fool I started running away
[Chorus]
Murder in the Rue Morgue
Someone call the Gendarmes
Murder in the Rue Morgue
Am I ever gonna be free?
[Bridge]
And now I've gotta get away from the arms of the law
All France is looking for me
I've gotta find my way across the border for sure
Down the south to Italy
[Chorus]
Murders in the Rue Morgue
I'm running from the Gendarmes
Murders in the Rue Morgue
I'm never coming home
[Verse 3]
Well, I made it to the border at last
But I can't erase the scene from my mind
Anytime somebody stares at me, well
I just start running blind
Well, I'm moving through the shadows at night
Away from the staring eyes
Any day they'll be looking for me
'Cause I know I show the signs of
[Chorus]
Murders in the Rue Morgue
I'm running from the Gendarmes
Murders in the Rue Morgue
Running from the arms of the law
[Chorus]
Murders in the Rue Morgue
Running from the Gendarmes
Murders in the Rue Morgue
Am I ever gonna be free?
[Verse 4]
It took so long and I'm getting so tired
I'm running out of places to hide
Should I return to the scene of the crime
Where the two young victims died
If I could go to somebody for help
To get me out of trouble for sure
But I know that inside my mind
Well, I've got to say I've done it before
[Chorus]
Murders in the Rue Morgue
They're never gonna find me
Murders in the Rue Morgue
I'm never going home
