  • First Impressions: Safari Surfboards V Bottom by Spider Murphy
In this review, I share my thoughts on the new Safari Surfboards V Bottom, shaped by the legendary Spider Murphy. Designed to enhance performance surfing in small to medium-sized waves, this board has unique features that caught my attention on my first session.
    Surfboard Specifications:
    • Dimensions: 5’7” x 19 7/16” x 2 9/16”
    • Volume: 27.5 liters
    • Fins: Large Scarfini twin-tab surfboard fins
    • Grip: Aerial material grip
    Performance and Design:
The V Bottom feels incredibly responsive, making it easy to paddle into waves and providing a lively surf experience. The fluted rails and flat top deck deliver an ideal balance of speed and control, allowing smooth transitions in smaller wave conditions. The board’s performance really shines in waist to head-high surf, where it adds a spark to your maneuvers.
Key Features of the Pro Missile:
The Pro Missile represents the next evolution in high-performance shortboards, perfect for competitive and professional surfers. Its Missile rail technology enhances speed, power, and flow, while the Pro Tail system offers the right mix of control and release in various wave conditions, from knee-high to double overhead.
    • Rail Technology: For speed, power, and flow
    • Pro Tail System: Enhanced control and release
    • Ideal Wave Conditions: From small surf up to double overhead waves
    Advanced Surfboard Technology:
    • Outline: Smooth curves for optimal flow
    • Tail: Squash tail for versatility
    • Concave: Light single concave transitioning into a deep double concave with a V near the tail
    • Wave Compatibility: From knee-high waves to whatever you can paddle into
    A Modern Surfboard Overview:
Today’s surfboards are a fusion of lightweight materials and advanced design. Made with polyurethane or polystyrene foam wrapped in fiberglass and epoxy resins, these boards are built for both performance and durability. Innovative materials like carbon fiber and biodegradable resins are now gaining popularity for their strength and environmental benefits.
    Boat Design: Understanding the Chine
A chine refers to the sharp change in angle in a boat’s hull, often seen in modern hull design. It improves maneuverability, which is a concept similar to surfboard design, where subtle changes in shape affect the ride.
