- Painting New Skaven before Skaventide. The new Age of Sigmar box is still weeks away from release, so in the meantime, I went to the local hobby store and picked up this Warhammer Underworlds box. I wanted to figure out how to paint Skaven before starting on a whole army. -Pop a like if you enjoyed the video :)
The box was Warhammer Underworlds Skabbik's Plaguepack

Brilliant, practical advice that is universally applicable no matter what colors are chosen. Thank you!
Cheers! Glad some of it was useful.
Awesome work mate! All the schemes turned out fantastic and the visible texture and linework is a really nice effect on these grotty little fellows. Definitely sells the rancid/tarnished look.
Thanks :D I play too much pestilence in warhammer total war, and the artwork has burned a perfect reference in my mind for them.
Those all turned out amazing. Even though my painting is nowhere near your level, I am definitely learning looks of helpful tips and cool products to use. Thanks for sharing!!
Thank you! Learning is the fun part, each time you get to have that moment of realization that your minis are starting to look better :)
As someone who was on the fence about getting the Skaventide box, I’m very happy this video was recommended to me as it has just given me a cheaper way to try paint some rats for a lot cheaper 👍
Cheers mate!
Streaking grime will definitely be anyones fan for Skaven. I love how that one model you demonstrated on turned out. Funny enough I actually went this same route with Slaves to Darkness. I knew I wanted to play the army but just wasnt sure if I was going to enjoy painting them so I ended up getting their Underworlds warband that also was on sale for $30, so an even better option as compared to a single model. I think a positive spin you can could have mentioned was that if you didnt end up liking the painting results of the warband you at least had a warband to play Underworlds with whether as someone familiar with the game or a noob who may get into it someday haha
Streking grime is magic when it comes to models with a lot of "mess" to them. That SoD box had so many awesome models, I tried grabbing it a while back but it was sold out in my local store. That's actually a great point, didn't think of it at the time but you're spot on with the warband thing.
This paint scheme 👏🏽🙌🏽
Cheers! 😀
Awesome video. The underworlds teams make a great test case to see if you should dive into a new army. This was the first video of your I had seen and now I am enjoying checking out the back catalog. Subscribed!
Thank you! Yeah, they are also a great break from painting armies and usually have some incredible sculpts. Hope some of the other videos will be enjoyable :)
That was the video i did not know I needed, thank you ! (greetings from Belgium)
Cheers!
I think a really cool thing about skaven as an army project is that you can have consistent overall color choices but vary up units quite a bit with different colors. They're not very uniform, so you can easily justify them having slightly different green/yellow stained robes for pestilens, for instance. That kind of built in-variability lets you experiment quite a bit but still field test models, and gives you a huge safety net as a new painter. If the end result looks kind of grungy and dirty, its probably table-top ready. Had a similar experience with my worn-down trencher krieg army that I'm assembling. Grunge forgives a lot.
Exactly! That's one of the main reasons I love Death Guard so much. They're another one of those armies where you can go absolutely wild, and any mistake just turns into "weathering" 😄
These look SICK (hehe...)
also, what song did you use at around 8 minutes it got me
🕺💃
Cheers! The song is "Topsy at the top - Martin Landstrom" the genre is electro swing, they always have a really fun upbeat theme to them.
Skaventide I prefer the term Vermintide but sweet
They probably wanted to avoid the confusion with the game Vermintide 2 😄
these look amazing but I could be wrong with this but doesnt skaven tide not have an Clan Pestilens skaven in it? I think its mostly Moulder? obviously you can paint them as whatever clan you want but the design of the plague monks are not being updated right? Moulder is probably my least favorite design out of the 4 great clans.
Yeah you're spot on, they're mostly moulder but I plan on going with a pestilence theme for them. I think plague monks are coming very soon, similar to what we saw with the large amount of kits being relased for the kruleboyz. These plague monks confirm they made the core design for them, now just the question of when.
@@AnotherDayMiniatures I hope so, I need new ninja rats :D
@@shanatokisaki4596 Sneaky, yes yes!
hey maybe you mentioned it but what exactly is the color you are using for the verdigris effect on the weapons?
It's Citadel Nihilakh Oxide. It's designed to create the effect of verdigris oxidation. You can't really use it as a normal paint, but it's fantastic for that effect.
@@AnotherDayMiniatures Ty for the fast reply! Do you thin it at all or straight from the pot? I really like the way it turned out in the video 🙌🏼
@@equinox5306 Just strait from the pot, it's already very thin. Make sure to give it a really good shake before every use. Thanks, glad you enjoyed it!
Any chance you can list the names of the paints you used? I am especially interested in the greens and flesh tones other than Bugman's. Thank you!
The green was primarily achieved by mixing AK Deep Brown and black with AK Greenish Brown. Then, I gradually added pure Greenish Brown. After that, I mixed it with AK Volcanic Yellow. The final highlight was created by adding a bit of white. For the flesh tones, I used Bugman's Glow and white. Layering them on top of different base tones is what gave each one a unique appearance.
@@AnotherDayMiniatures Thank you!I am looking to update my paint scheme and really like the look you have achieved!
@bradty9910 No problem, good luck mate!
Yo, I thought I clicked a Squidmar video
😂 and on that terrible disappointment...
@@AnotherDayMiniatures haha no way, this wayyy better
@@JohnSmith-zi5tc Appreciate it, mate 😀
really enjoyed this however i would avoid making tutorials that just point at brand dependent choices, I notice you went ProAcryl to AKinteractive, unfortunately, AK interactive doesnt exist where I live and buying it is a nightmare. i can do color comparison but when it points as brand-related issues i tend to fall off the tutorial at that spot. I would say be a bit more paint agnostic or share a few brands or options like varnishing.
Glad you enjoyed it. My aim was to share my personal observations and experiences with the different paints, rather than endorsing any specifically. I mentioned ProAcryl and AK to explain the different effects that I noticed with them. If you're after a similar finish to AK both Vallejo and Citadel offer something very close. Cheers!
