    I feel like the white line recess shade in the scales would be a good place for white oil paint depending on how much of it you intend to do, also if your already busting out the oils the black lining is another good spot for that.

    • @MattsHobbyHour
      @MattsHobbyHour  Месяц назад

      good idea, it might be worth trying! Oil paint tends to flow quite a bit, so you'd probably end up getting a much larger area of glow if you're not too careful. Please let me know if you try it out and what kind of results you get. Thanks for watching!

    Very cool.
    I like this color gradient from light to dark blue.
    This scaly body really reminds me of your Tyranids in the Kraken color scheme.
    Btw, I think it would be cool if you made some more of these in the Hive Fleet Kraken color scheme. I would especially like to see a fierce Deathleaper in that Kraken scheme, but also older models like the Maleceptor, Winged Hive Tyrant, or Tyrannofex.
    Well, I could try them myself to see them, but I think it would be cooler to see them here with you first.😂

    • @MattsHobbyHour
      @MattsHobbyHour  Месяц назад

      I bet the scheme would look really cool on Necrons. Great idea! I think you could do a similar glow in between the armor panels. I think the glow shows up better on darker surfaces, so a very dark, almost black steel would probably be the most effective.
      Make sure to share on Instagram or Discord if you try it out, I'd love to see the results. Good luck!

    I really like this scheme. Do you think it would work or with purple red and/or a green?

    • @MattsHobbyHour
      @MattsHobbyHour  6 дней назад +1

      i think those colors could work out. Which colors would you swap for which? I think that in order for the glow to show up well, the scale color should be dark. So whichever route you go for that, I'd make sure it is dark. If you go with green for the scales, I'd use a blue-green rather than a yellow-green. A dark blue-green, like Stegadon Scale Green would work well for the skin, and I think that would pair really well with a reddish purple.

    It really makes blending look atrocious.

    • @MattsHobbyHour
      @MattsHobbyHour  Месяц назад +1

      Hi! I'm sorry you're having trouble with blending. I'm going to share my answer from another comment here for you:
      "There are a lot of variables at play and it's hard to narrow it down without being in person. I think it's one of two things: speed or not enough paint on the model. My blending in the video is in real-time without cuts, so if your painting is slower than the video, that may be the problem. The other possibility is that you're not using enough paint. Really thin layers will dry so quickly you wont be able to blend them. I would try to match the amount of paint that I'm applying to the model, and also be aware of how you apply it. When I lay down the paint, I tend to end my brush stroke in the area that's about to be blended - that way the paint in that spot is freshest and I'll have the most time to finish the blend.
      I hope this helps you out. Feel free to join my Discord server and share some photos of your progress. It may be easier to help you that way. Good luck!"

      The grey primer that I use is Ace Hardware Premium Grey Primer, in a spray can. This may not be available outside the US. If you can't get this grey spray, I would recommend spraying with Grey Seer instead.

    You lost me when you went for the third darkening layer on the scales. The first layer looked pretty good. I thought it was borderline too dark after the Ultramarine. And then you started with the Black Templar and i was screaming at you internally that you're just making it so dark. Maybe your eyes pick up something the camera doesn't, but you've lost all definition to me.

    • @laptitegraine1298
      @laptitegraine1298 Месяц назад +1

      That and the more you have layers of contrast paint the more you lose the sculpt definition as it slowly pools and fills the cracks and crevices.
      Contrast/speed paint is design to be a fast single coat solution with average look. If you are going to layer it, you might as well use regular paint IMO

    • @kscott2655
      @kscott2655 Месяц назад

      @@laptitegraine1298 I don't mind the layering. The contrast paint is not that thick. It would take many layers to make a significant difference to the sculpted recesses. But they do serve as additive layers, like stacking plates of colored glass on top of each other.

    • @MattsHobbyHour
      @MattsHobbyHour  Месяц назад +6

      Sorry to have lost you! It's very likely we have different ideas about how dark or light a model should be. I wanted the scales dark to set off the glowing effect. It may not show up on your screen very well, but the skin was looking flat and the Black Lotus layer helped define the scales for edge highlights later. The beauty of this hobby is we all have different tastes, and you can take all, some, or none of my advice when you paint your own models. Thanks for watching anyway! Glad to have you here.
