His fights with Ismael Laguna and Carlos Ortiz are CLASSICS , Buchanan was an excellent Boxer. Duran of course the best lightweight to step in to a ring.
I was a teen and watched the Duran fight on live TV. I've have a fair dollop of Scottish and got fired up with Buchanan's ring walk with all the bagpipes. Well that was the high point of Ken's night. Once the fight started Duran (yet to become an all time great) all but ran my man Buchanan out of the ring. I was so disappointed but over the years became a big Duran fan. And Ken was a very good boxer, so Duran's domination is all that more impressive.
Ken's achievements in winning and defending his titles across the pond mark him out as one of Britain's best of all time, so can is entitled to boast a bit, especially after a "few" drams. I a BBC Sport poll, they rated Kenny Britains' best post-war fighter, ahead of Lennox who was 2nd. It didn't include Hatton or Calzaghe, who were still active at the time, but I wouldn't put Hatton above Buchanan.
Lol !!!!Buchanan won two rounds....maybe...Way behind..10-2 plus a 10-8 for a knockdown. He got his arse kicked. From ring post to ring post. We counted over 100 head snapping right hands alone. Power punch stat rates that fight a massacre. The greatest Duran admirer in the boxing media...the late Gil Clancy....buchanan's cornerman. Buchanan was a truly great fighter..and a tough man. If he didn t lose to guts ishimatsu, he would have gotten his rematch..and another retirement beating.
Duran wouldn't fight him again.... because how could they respect him after doing that? The 'punch' to the groin wasn't even a hard punch and I have seen way worse with fighters able to continue easily....he tried to find a way out and that was worth not giving him the rematch.
@BestCanKeanRob2 It was a low blow, but nobody knows that it was hard or not. Buchanan should have stayed on his feet and let the referee give him time to recover. But he went down, putting a good piece of acting together. He knew he was losing.. As of Duran, he has been a clean fighter in all of his over one hundred fights. He was a tough boxer, but never dirty. He was one of the best of all time, he did not need to be dirty to win his fights.
Don't talk such rubbish. Duran feared nobody. He was born fighting, and is considered one of the greatest with very good reason. Ken Buchanan was a decent boxer, but not a fighter.
Try the Alhambra Bar in Leith Walk (Edinburgh) any Friday / Saturday night and there's a fair chance you'll catch him, but don't get there too late as he usually ends up as in the video. Top boxer though and still looks in decent physical shape.
my dad Jimmy Isaac fought Ken Buchanan in the the final of the 1965 ABA championship, i have been searching for film of the fight ,if anyone can help me out please message me thks
Ken was a good boxer. But not a good fighter. His career was over the minute he stepped in the ring with Duran. He never recovered from that beating. He got the fight beat out of him. After all these years he still can’t tell the truth. He never wanted to fight Duran again
the low blow by Duran was the ref's fault..not that Duran wasn't nasty, but the ref was out of position and tried to break the fighters at the bell by pulling Duran from behind, guiding Duran's punch south. btw, Buchanan was what we call here across the pond, a 'bad mofo',,,so tough and so skilled
Arguably the greatest British fighter of all time: I still rate Ken Buchanan as MANY TIMES GREATER than Joe Calzaghe. I rate Lennox Lewis in second place to Ken; and maybe in time Carl Froch will turn out as one of British boxing's greats. Froch reminds me of Roberto Duran (in terms of positive mental strength and fighting style).
He was 5-6 rounds behind on all 3 referees, but I believe he made a mountain out of a mole hill. Why no REAL protest?--Bert Sugar reckoned it was faked(the injury)???...I AGREE. He WAS offered a rematch but it was in Panama and the fingers in the eye is mentioned on in Japan,Italy and noted by Duran that he was "unlucky" to get so many"accidents" of fingers in the eye! He is Scotlands greatest P4P but a reematch against Duran would not have gone the distance. Sad to see Ken turn out like this
Ken was a great fighter but Duran at lightweight was something else.
The Duran's first title against Ken Buchanan was the begining of a great career.
"Hands of Stone" Duran, the best latin american boxer ever.
Head of stone aswell because apart from the obvious scrotum punch he did he was also putting his head on Buchanan in that fight
His fights with Ismael Laguna and Carlos Ortiz are CLASSICS , Buchanan was an excellent Boxer. Duran of course the best lightweight to step in to a ring.

Duran won every round of that fight greatest lightweight ever period
KEN IS A LEGEND.
LEGEND

ken was one off the greats ,.I think he is a good guy..
Duran El Fenomeno nadie como el.
Te veo comentando en todos los vídeos de Durán
Can't believe Ken is from Edinburgh sounds like a Glaswegian accent but what dee I kna.
kingshearer2 he definitely doesn’t sound Glaswegian

Chavez was up there with Duran ... 82 fights before he lost.
Only beat of the greatest ever P4p fighter
Duran wouldn't fight him again.... because how could they respect him after doing that? The 'punch' to the groin wasn't even a hard punch and I have seen way worse with fighters able to continue easily....he tried to find a way out and that was worth not giving him the rematch.
Ken Buchanan used also many low blows against Ruben Navarro.
@BestCanKeanRob2 It was a low blow, but nobody knows that it was hard or not. Buchanan should have stayed on his feet and let the referee give him time to recover. Ken sounds a bit bevvied up!

i heard he is making a comeback at 62 and wants a rematch with Duran hahaha im serious
my dad Jimmy Isaac fought Ken Buchanan in the the final of the 1965 ABA championship, i have been searching for film of the fight ,if anyone can help me out please message me thks
is that Peter Jackson in the backround at 2:35?
Ken Buchanan was a great fighter, but he would never beat duran. even his on trainer Gil Clancy said that ken was a beaten man in that fight.
So true!
Ken was a good boxer. But not a good fighter. His career was over the minute he stepped in the ring with Duran. He never recovered from that beating. He got the fight beat out of him. After all these years he still can’t tell the truth. He never wanted to fight Duran again
you were well beat by Duran.
Yes up until the later rounds when Ken seemed to get stronger. An unfortunate ending to a great fight!
Forget the Like's of Froch Calzaghe and Naz there's a real champion it's a shame how things have turned out for him
the low blow by Duran was the ref's fault..not that Duran wasn't nasty, but the ref was out of position and tried to break the fighters at the bell by pulling Duran from behind, guiding Duran's punch south. btw, Buchanan was what we call here across the pond, a 'bad mofo',,,so tough and so skilled
Earnie shavers in the background.
undisputed world champion
damn , too much camera on buchanan and no camera on the cute interviewer

+Veniamin-Alfred D'arcy I rate Joe Calzaghe. no 1 and Lennox for me is Canadian. Froch is nowhere near these boys.
oh my god dont you dare mention carl froch in the same sentence with duran
He was 5-6 rounds behind on all 3 referees, but I believe he made a mountain out of a mole hill. Why no REAL protest?--Bert Sugar reckoned it was faked(the injury)???...I AGREE.

Sad to see Ken turn out like this
Ken you've been drinking too much!
+Maxwell Mcconnell He would still beat Duran in a rematch.
kingshearer2 pmsl
LOL no he would not have.
Low blows do not count especially when your testicle is stuck in your tummy.👊✊🏴
LOL obviously he's gonna be drunk, he's Scottish and he's probably getting free alcohol!!!
I wish I could understand everything, but I only get 50%...too strong of an accent...got to be that I live in the U.S.
+Luis Donado I think 50% of what Ken Buchanan said was just silly noises
If you are from Scotland you can understand every word.
He's so trashed
Ok who cares, it was said he was at a dinner, of course he would of had a few.
@theman1819 haha i actually hrard tht aswell cant c much truth in it tho likes. shame tht rematch will prob never happen
