This situation really bothers me. B Smith was a very proud classy, professional business woman. For her husband to capitalize off B Smith’s illness by moving his mistress into their home, bragging about it, then showing video clips of B Smith with Alzheimers is upsetting to me. There is no one to rescue her because she didn’t have children nor siblings. For him to do this is so tacky and tasteless. My heart aches for B Smith and I’m praying for her for some type of intervention with professional care. My mom always told me watch how you treat people because life is a full circle and what goes around comes around.

My friend’s mom died of cancer two years ago. Her parents were married for over 50 years and he took care of her until her last breath. He wouldn’t let anyone other than family or medical professionals touch her. He waited on her hand and foot. Many times she couldn’t speak or move. She seemed gone... but he took care of her. She went into hospice and he had a bed put in her room so he can stay by her side. It was beautiful... he loved her so much.

My husband was diagnosed with vascular dementia (the 2nd cause of dementia after Alzheimer) in 2016. His decline started after he got bedridden on December 23, 2017, his brain just stopped sending the signals for his legs to move. In June 2018 he already had pressure ulcers. He got confused and started calling me by his sister’s name or he would ask me how much I was getting paid for his care, like I was a private nurse taking care of him. Other times he knew my name and that I was his wife. In August 2018 he got hospitalized because his ulcers were necrotic, from there he was in and out of the hospital due to bacterial and urinary tract infections. He died on January 17, 2019 due to a sepsis, renal failure, he got blind and couldn't speak anymore. Even at the moment of his death he knew I was his wife. But since he got bedridden, I felt like I had lost my husband because my life was never the same. I wasn’t expecting him to get better. I knew it was going to be an inevitable health decline and death because that was part of this brain condition or disease. I used to tell my son “wow I am a widow with a living husband.” He was living but he wasn’t aware of everyday things like normal people, that was part of the dementia. So, I don’t agree with Dan Gasby’s decision, but I guess that everyone deals with dementia in different ways. I chose to take care of my husband until he died. I was there for him.
I am so sorry for what you have all been through, and for your loss that just happened. I couldn't pretend to have any idea but I would imagine there are mixed feelings and up and down days. I hope you have good support and in time experience happiness and joy again, I would imagine since your husband loved you, he would want that. You gave true love and deserve the best.

I think the there are a couple of reasons why he did not hire professional care for her. 1. He wouldn't have an excuse to move in his mistress. 2. He wants to keep as much money as possible in his pocket. If he hires care that would dip into the money he will get when she dies.

I think this is horrible, and my heart breaks for B. Smith. My father had lung cancer that metastasized to his brain. I moved in to help my mother care for him, along with visits from his hospice nurse. His personality completely changed. He became very easily irritated and distant. He eventually stopped recognizing us for the most part, but a small part of him still recognized my mom. He would grab her hand and hold on and look at her, like he knew she was someone important to him but he just couldn't quite figure it out. At the very end, he couldn't speak at all. It was a terribly difficult time and it certainly took its toll on my mother, but she didn't "find another love" like this man did. 52 years together, and she was literally there with him when he took his last breath. Apparently some people think in sickness and in health only applies if their spouse never gets anything worse than a bad case of the flu. It's bad enough that he felt the need to do this in the first place, but what purpose does it serve to publicize his relationship while his wife is still alive?

Omg, I HAVE been a caregiver with a spouse in this way and have dealt with all these feelings!! I know first hand what it's like to watch your spouse deteriorate. It changes everthing, your relationship, your LIFE!! I listened to Dan very carefully. What he doesn't stress is that B is dying!! She doesn't have much time left on this earth! Alzheimer's patient's do not thrive, we are not talking years and years, now that she's in this condition. Very unfortunately, B will die soon, and he will not have to caregive anymore. Yes, it is possible to give her the respect as her husband, put his needs aside during her last days and take care of his wife! After her passing, he is free to live how he pleases. A very selfish man.
I believe Mrs. Smith had early onset dementia. My sister was also diagnosed with early onset dementia. I first noticed symptoms around 2009. That's thirteen years ago. Now she is in late stages. I visited with her a coupke weeks ago. It was the first time she did not recognize me. She is relatively happy and well taken care of. I hope that Mrs. Smith was also happy and well taken care of. As for her husband, yes it bothers me but I understand. The man needed someone. I don't believe he should have brought her around his wife but I get it.

My great grandmother was sick with Alzheimer's for 14 years I completely agree with him moving forward with his life and finding happiness with someone else. Living with someone with Alzheimer's constantly deteriorates the caretaker life. I wouldn't wish that on anyone he is doing the right thing, because she is already gone that's what ppl don't get! It's the equivalent of dying an extremely slow death with absolutely no cure the only thing that's for sure is the person deteriorates more and more each min each day each year. You think she wishes for her husband to deteriorate with her? I HIGHLY doubt it. If he found companionship again so what!! Let it be!! I was a caregiver for my mother who presented with Alzheimer's. It is a very hard and lonely Journey. I gave up my life as a single woman to care for her. I think this man is hurting, lonely and confused. I understand him wanting companionship because the journey is so lonely and hard. But he should have waited until his wife passed away and the girlfriend should not have been in the wife's house. I think her presence in the house is very disrespectful.

This situation really bothers me. B Smith was a very proud classy, professional business woman. For her husband to capitalize off B Smith’s illness by moving his mistress into their home, bragging about it, then showing video clips of B Smith with Alzheimers is upsetting to me. There is no one to rescue her because she didn’t have children nor siblings. For him to do this is so tacky and tasteless.
My heart aches for B Smith and I’m praying for her for some type of intervention with professional care.

My friend’s mom died of cancer two years ago. Her parents were married for over 50 years and he took care of her until her last breath. He wouldn’t let anyone other than family or medical professionals touch her. He waited on her hand and foot. Many times she couldn’t speak or move. She seemed gone... but he took care of her. She went into hospice and he had a bed put in her room so he can stay by her side. It was beautiful... he loved her so much.

My husband was diagnosed with vascular dementia (the 2nd cause of dementia after Alzheimer) in 2016. His decline started after he got bedridden on December 23, 2017, his brain just stopped sending the signals for his legs to move. In June 2018 he already had pressure ulcers. He got confused and started calling me by his sister’s name or he would ask me how much I was getting paid for his care, like I was a private nurse taking care of him. Other times he knew my name and that I was his wife. In August 2018 he got hospitalized because his ulcers were necrotic, from there he was in and out of the hospital due to bacterial and urinary tract infections. He died on January 17, 2019 due to a sepsis, renal failure, he got blind and couldn't speak anymore. Even at the moment of his death he knew I was his wife. But since he got bedridden, I felt like I had lost my husband because my life was never the same. I wasn’t expecting him to get better. I knew it was going to be an inevitable health decline and death because that was part of this brain condition or disease. I used to tell my son “wow I am a widow with a living husband.” He was living but he wasn’t aware of everyday things like normal people, that was part of the dementia. So, I don’t agree with Dan Gasby’s decision, but I guess that everyone deals with dementia in different ways. I chose to take care of my husband until he died. I was there for him.

I think this is horrible, and my heart breaks for B. Smith. My father had lung cancer that metastasized to his brain. I moved in to help my mother care for him, along with visits from his hospice nurse. His personality completely changed. He became very easily irritated and distant. He eventually stopped recognizing us for the most part, but a small part of him still recognized my mom. He would grab her hand and hold on and look at her, like he knew she was someone important to him but he just couldn't quite figure it out. At the very end, he couldn't speak at all. It was a terribly difficult time and it certainly took its toll on my mother, but she didn't "find another love" like this man did. 52 years together, and she was literally there with him when he took his last breath. Apparently some people think in sickness and in health only applies if their spouse never gets anything worse than a bad case of the flu. It's bad enough that he felt the need to do this in the first place, but what purpose does it serve to publicize his relationship while his wife is still alive?

Omg, I HAVE been a caregiver with a spouse in this way and have dealt with all these feelings!! I know first hand what it's like to watch your spouse deteriorate. It changes everthing, your relationship, your LIFE!! I listened to Dan very carefully. What he doesn't stress is that B is dying!! She doesn't have much time left on this earth! Alzheimer's patient's do not thrive, we are not talking years and years, now that she's in this condition. Very unfortunately, B will die soon, and he will not have to caregive anymore. Yes, it is possible to give her the respect as her husband, put his needs aside during her last days and take care of his wife! After her passing, he is free to live how he pleases. A very selfish man.

I believe Mrs. Smith had early onset dementia. My sister was also diagnosed with early onset dementia. I first noticed symptoms around 2009. That's thirteen years ago. Now she is in late stages. I visited with her a coupke weeks ago. It was the first time she did not recognize me. She is relatively happy and well taken care of. I hope that Mrs. Smith was also happy and well taken care of. As for her husband, yes it bothers me but I understand. The man needed someone. I don't believe he should have brought her around his wife but I get it.

I do not agree with this at all...this is very pitiful...I can look in that woman's eyes and tell she is an opportunist...not once did I hear him say what HE could do to make his wife's transition easier ..it's all about him. My great grandmother was sick with Alzheimer's for 14 years I completely agree with him moving forward with his life and finding happiness with someone else. Living with someone with Alzheimer's constantly deteriorates the caretaker life. I wouldn't wish that on anyone he is doing the right thing, because she is already gone that's what ppl don't get! It's the equivalent of dying an extremely slow death with absolutely no cure the only thing that's for sure is the person deteriorates more and more each min each day each year. You think she wishes for her husband to deteriorate with her? I HIGHLY doubt it. If he found companionship again so what!! Let it be!! Are all these ppl with huge opinions going to go help him 24/7/365 with her. He's fulfilling his duties to basically a ghost.

This is NOT okay. This story is NOt okay. I am astounded at the full court press mainstream media is giving this story in the context that Dan has "found a new love" to help with the stress. This is bs. Many of us have been caretakers at various points in our lives. I watched my Dad take care of my Mom who was suffering from cancer for three years. He was by her side (sans girlfriend) the entire time. He was tired. He was sad. It was difficult. But he honored those vows! If Dan needs love and affections so much, then he has two options: DIVORCE B. Smith and let a conservator take care of her and her estate OR keep your side chick (aka side ho) on the side out of the limelight and NOT IN B. SMITH'S HOUSE. This is so vile and disrespectful. Hire a nurse. B. has the money. B. Smith has three brothers. They must get a payoff to shut up and look the other I way. She is surrounded by money hungry peope who are waiting for her to die. I have a grandmother who has Alzheimers. There ARE moments of lucidity, and I'm sure B. Smith is not okay with this. Senior protection services needs to step in. I was a caregiver for my mother who presented with Alzheimer's. It is a very hard and lonely Journey. I gave up my life as a single woman to care for her. I think this man is hurting, lonely and confused. I understand him wanting companionship because the journey is so lonely and hard. But he should have waited until his wife passed away and the girlfriend should not have been in the wife's house. I think her presence in the house is very disrespectful.
Amen! The situation doesn't say much for the mistress either. She leeched on another successful black man who was also blinded by her white. He's a successful restauranteur in NYC. She snifted around him until he was arrested for whatever and put in jail for a year or so. When he got out she was nowhere to be found. She's opportunistic. None of us are perfect....I know that; but as my mother used to say, it's a bad wind that never changes.
