I think so too! I ran some pin oak after the modification to try it out, and OMG what a difference. Don’t have to keep reaching for the damn handle! It stops by itself!
I did a "similar" stroke shortening on the day after I got myself a 2nd hand box store splitter. My mod was virtually tool less and the stroke can be adjusted by moving the hose clamp.
You can "sorta" see it in action on ruclips.net/video/NoaS7m-mGJw/видео.html . The detent on my splitter kicks off at random and my bodgy mod adds extra weight that makes it more likely to kick out. I'll make the mod betterer and more reliable at some stage. It has got a total of about 5 minutes invested in it so far with a couple of length adjustments and tweaks.
I m glad you showed it working at the end! I thought you were shortening it the other way. After I saw I was like ahh that’s how it works. Just what I am looking to do. Thanks!
Absolutely Will! Anything to speed up production, right? I busted up pin oak yesterday and oh what a difference over here! I felt like I was setting speed records for sure! No need to worry about stopping the ram every time! It stops by itself! I do have room for improvement so I’ll rework the carabiners this week to allow for splits over 18” cause that was the situation yesterday… 😉
@kenskuts yeah I added a version of it to the YardMax which you saw but now I need it on the splitter in my other woodyard. Hope you and your family had a wonderful Christmas!
The safety cable they provide is almost useless (aka a joke) and I broke the cable the first week. So now I just lift it off when not needed and add back on when necessary.
I can’t take full credit. Another woodhound gave me the idea…! It’s a game changer for my box store machine tho….!! Thanks for the sub! See you on the next one!
Thank you for the video. I think you could have got away with one eyebolt, at max, since the other end without the bolt would make it easier to unclip and just put the nrope over the other side and let it hang loose. Just a thought.
Thank you for your comments! I have already redesigned the rope route with double looped bowlines at the fixed anchor end, and it’s easier now to remove the rope from the “anchor” end for long splits and let the rope hang. Thanks for watching. See you on the next ☝🏻!!
@@kenskuts can you please send me a picture of how you re-did the routing? I would love to see this since ed I have a very similar splitter. Thank you so much.
It certainly helped! I was splitting Pin oak over the holiday break and it felt like the splitter was running at warp speed because of the 3.5 second cycle time reduction and saving 8 inches per stroke! Thank you so much for subscribing and stopping by. See you on the next ☝🏻!!!!
That definitely should speed things up! Great job👍👍

Nice job Ken, that will definitely speed you up a bit!
You’ve got that right! Thanks for the inspiration Tony….!!!

@Alan_Hans_ Thanks for stopping by Alan! That mod sounds intriguing….! I’d love to see what you did! Catch you on the next one!

looks like a time saver !
It absolutely is! I was busting through pin oak like mad yesterday!
Awesome modification Ken. Have to do similar on my Huskee because that splitter has a slow cycle time.

Hi Ken, just wanted to know where you got that 4-way adapter? I have the same splitter.
It’s a Speeco/Oregon part. Roughly $100 bucks. I’ll add a link here: www.mowersatjacks.com/product-details/oregon/s40144300?gad_source=1
Thank you!

Hey Ken, I do like this idea. Simple mods that makes splitting faster, nicely done! I hit that sub button when I got here. Take care
Thanks for the sub! Hope this video was helpful!
Liked and subscribed! Nice idea.
