It’s very similar to the Subaru Outback. I bought a Passport 10 days ago. The Passport is superior in some ways though...... the automatic transmission doesn’t cut power like Subaru’s CVTs do, the AWD has a “simulated” locking rear differential, the passport has a crawl ratio for off-roading, and the V6 has tons of power to get through any obstacle. The Passport also has a better approach and departure angle. However the outback has a slightly better break over angle. The biggest problems with the Passport are it’s 20 inch rims (if you actually got the vehicle to do some off road adventures) and the 8.1 inches of ground clearance. They do offer a Honda partnered leveling kit from Jsport. With bigger tires and the leveling kit the Passport can reach over 10 inches ground clearance. Make no mistake though.... you won’t keep up with a body on frame truck/jeep/suv when it comes to off-roading. In return they can’t keep up with the Passport performance on the road which you’ll spend the majority of your time. This thing is fast too. It’s been tested as low as 5.6 seconds 0-60 and 14.7 1/4 mile times.
I don't tow so I bought a Hyundai Santa Fe Ultimate 2.0 The Passport drove great but I felt the interior was not much of an upgrade to my wife's 2013 Honda Crosstour (Which has the same drivetrain) It was also almost 10k more. The interior quality of the Santa Fe was much nicer and it had tons more equipment. 20 inch tires are also a huge expense. Honda will sell many of these but I would go for an RDX if I had to spend 44k for the Passport.
hyundai are design to look very well. most materials suffer with little over 2 years. trust me... maybe the new model that's huge or the top trim models like genesis or whatever, but a regular hyundai it's a no-no for me. especially if you ever think to drive on rough roads. forget it
The fact that honda crv has gotten bigger and the hrv filling the smaller slot I don't see the need for the passport. It will simply be completing with the similar crv.
O.K., so we're just gonna' gloss over the fact that this oversized station wagon has a push button gear selector instead of the conventional T lever. The 4Runner and the Subaru's are about the only mid-size non car vehicles I've seen that don't look like everything else.
