PTSD comes in many forms - Years of Sexual and emotional abuse. I feel every word he is singing. Especially the burden part...all the parts.

I felt it too. I have my own struggles and demons I deal with every day. I talk about some of it but not everything in my videos. I am hoping to grow more open with it as I feel like its a bit therapeutic to me and I appreciate finding others that relate so I know I am not alone.

such an emotional song and accurate. we all say i'm fine when we're not. I'm guilty of it myself. We need to stop doing that, we need to say we're not okay and we need help. most think they'll be judged for that but ask for help anyway, stop staying quiet.

PTSD. Very real, very brutal, and deadly for many vets. The wall is horrific because many, many of us will not talk to others who cannot relate. How would, or could, a civilian relate?

    • @ScarletKnight
      @ScarletKnight  4 года назад +3

This is very true. It is so difficult for individuals who have never been in a war and seen the chaos and damage that is involved in that to fully understand what someone who has experienced that stuff is going through.
I know handling major depression and anxiety are different than PTSD, ( I actually have studied psychopathology and own the DSM-IV ). So both are different in ways of thinking and feeling but they are similar in the ability to relate to others. I find it very difficult to speak on my personal demons with others as I feel they would not understand. My main two people I have as my support are my mother and my fiance, neither have depression or anxiety so they are not able to relate or fully understand how I feeling. So I can understand that feeling a bit. That wall is such a protective barrier, its used to help prevent others from seeing the disasters we really are.
What helps one person may not help another person. Everybody handles things differently. The only thing I know I can pass on to others struggling with whatever ails them is to encourage them to keep fighting.

I am a veteran who suffers from PTSD, Anxiety, and depression. I was exposed to this song by one of veteran friends. I loved it and I played this song for my wife, she said that she understands a little more what goes through my head on a daily bases. Even with the help I am receiving from the VA. I will never be that person I was before.
I feel and can understand somewhat you are going through, you do not want people close to you see, what the song said "the monster". So we turn inward and hide it the best we can. But doesn't fool anyone truly close to us.

I am guilty of saying that "I'm always there for you", and then not really being there at all. Not because I don't care. Because I don't know how to help, what to say, how to say it etc. I try, but it's definitely not all that I can do. And, I tend to make everything about myself. I try to fight it, but it just sort of happens.

Your reaction and discussion, I.. I Am impressed. You clearly understand but also manage to talk about it. Phrase it in words that all can understand. I sort of want to link your reaction of it to my mom, as I can't explain it to her. When I tries to open to her either she thinks I can just walk it off or she have a complete emotional breakdown. Idk...

I deal with depression and anxiety everyday. I have had to deal with these for over a decade. It is sometimes hard to describe it to others who do not experience it. My mom has struggled to understand it as well. It takes time for individuals in your life who do not suffer from these mental illnesses to get it. I think its important to let them know that it is a deficiency in your brain chemistry. There is no on or off switch and it is episodic. Sometimes episodes of depression can be triggered by something and sometimes it just shows up out of no where. It also lasts for different lengths of time as well.
As much as you would probably love to just walk it off it sadly just doesn't work that way. There is a lot of misunderstandings of mental health. However it is important that you take a few days for your mental health when needed and find some outlets for you to help you claw your way out of the hole you feel trapped in.
It honestly took my mom a long time to understand it, she thought I was being lazy, dramatic and just using things as excuses. It took time for me to open up about things in my life and for my doctors to also explain some of it to her as well.
You are more than welcome to share this video with your mom. I hope it helps and maybe opens a gateway of dialog for yall. Just keep fighting and stay strong.
I am very open about some mental health things and speak about it in several videos. I have also had a history in education in undergrad psychology courses and graduate psychology courses. I have an understanding of it in a clinical sense and a personal sense.
But yeah definitely keep trying, maybe you could try to write her letter to help explain it. Sometimes trying to explain something in writing is easier then in person.
Just keep your head up, keep fighting, and keep pushing forward. Don't let it defeat you. I always think of it as battles in a big war within myself and that sometimes helps me feel better when I get through an episode because it feels like I accomplished something.

I went to work every day with a smile on my face even though I knew I would be bullied and talked about. Being autistic, I cannot do social normalcies. Certain "clicky" people will always pick up on this and be against me from the start. It makes it harder and makes you question your worth. All I can do is put on a mask that says "what you do doesn't hurt" no matter how much I'm dying inside.

6:44 Or you get that one friend who will go across the country or even a different continent to be with you. That's my mom (Newfie who grew up in the out-ports), she will give you your 15 minutes of consolation... but after those 15 min. it's time to get over it. If it was in regards to divorce or a bad breakup. That's just how she was raised, there was no time to be depressed or any of that there was chores to do.

The creased paper is relevant. If you have a flat piece of paper and you start scrunching it, the scrunching representing all the hurtful things people say. No matter how much you try to flatten out that piece of paper, the "scars" from people's comments are still there. It'll never be that flat piece of paper again.

Have a nice day! Oh, and you should keep trying to tell other youtubers what they should and shouldn't do. I'm sure one of them will eventually value your opinion enough to care.

Yeesh my bad, i didn't realize the word "shouldn't " used in a sentence the way you wrote it would be considered criticism and not telling me how I should or "shouldn't" do my videos.
I'm glad you were not trying to be rude though because that would have just ruined my whole day. So no need to kind of apologize.
On the topic of criticism, its typically better to be constructive with it as that actually offers something helpful. If you prefer short videos that is totally cool. Lucky for you there is a way to see how long a video is before you watch it so that you won't be inconvenienced of your time. Also there are plenty of other reactors out there that may be more to your liking, which is totally okay.
As you felt the need to let me know your thoughts with your short comment, I did the same on my long video. So we good 👍
