I've been married. Twice. I know exactly what that therapist is going through.
Do I laugh? Do I purse my lips, furrow my brow and nod...? Is she serious, but not serious... but I better act like it IS serious, but not really, or she'll think this is how I actually think her mind works... I mean, it does, but... I should take up sports. Or something outside the house, anyhow. Anything to... oh, we're on about her Mom now... Maybe I can WILL myself to break a bone or two in my hand...
