Happy Fathers Day Chris! I made mine out of 3/4 plywood and ripped them on a tablesaw to 3"? I'll have to double check that measurement. I used the pro Kreg tool for mine with a 6" space between screws. These locomotives are very heavy. Also I do not try and hind the screws because I want the most meat on the screws also I have glued mine with the best wood glue you can buy. If you want have a look at the ones I built so far. I have made 4 of them so far and I plan on making 6 or 8 more. Great work on your display shelves my friend. Frank
Thanks Frank, I thought about using plywood and do that but I found a good deal on these boards and it saved me some work. I did a test on a 24 inch one. 2 holes and I put 40 lbs on it attached to the side of the layout and left it like that for two weeks. So I think I’m good if I decide to take them down to paint them or stain them, I may actually put a plywood backer on them and then glue them will have to see. Thanks for watching.. Chris
I also used the 3/4 plywood for the back. I just have to take them off the wall and stain and varnish them. I’m glad you tested them first. Better to be safe than sorry. 👍
Looks great Chris 👍 i got mine under my layout for rolling stock n some engines i need to build some like yours on the wall , you done a great work on them Thanks for sharing
Thank you! I want to make some for under the layout after I get most of the layout done. So is not to make it harder to get under while I’m building. Thanks for watching!
Hi Chris. Really enjoyed it. Like the jig tool to drill hidden holes. I have the shelves routed (that's what we call it in UK) with two parallel grooves to accept the wheels from the trains. So they sit straight on rhe shelf and also I think they are a little more secure. Stuart
Hello Stuart thanks for reaching out! I was thinking about cutting grooves for the wheels, but I wasn’t sure about sliding them in and out of the shelves something I might do later. I’m going to test these out and see how these work! Thanks for watching
lol I have 2 sets of sawhorses downstairs, and didn’t want to stop to get them. I was trying to get that done before it was too hot to work in the barn. I did carpentry for years and have had to make do without in some cases. But I probably should have taken the couple minutes to get them! Thanks for looking out for me and thanks for watching.
AWESOME project
Thank you! 🙏

Thank you Corey! For me it is easy, I’ve been building stuff like this all my life and now I building something for me! Thanks for watching!

When Building a Train Layout wouldn’t you want to Build your shelvings First?
I can walk all the way around my layout, so not really you don’t want the dust from cutting all the bench work to get on the shelves.
When Havin A Large Collection of Trains You need to Build A Shelvings for your Trains I Have That Done For My Wife’s And Mine and Glad I Did that.
It’s nice to see them and enjoy them even when they’re not running!
I Am Surly There Are Different styles For Shelving.
Yes you can buy all types of shelving but I like to make my own! It fun to build them.
...and don’t call me Shirley.
I was Not Calling you That I Mispelled Surely.

You’ve got $100,000 worth of trains there and you can’t see your way clear to buy a couple of $20.00 saw horses to keep from cutting off your hand?
