Chris's Trains And More!
США
Добавлен 13 фев 2010
Hello all, This channel is about all the things that are built in my shop/train barn. Upstairs we have my train collection that I've been putting together since I was a kid. Around the late 70's. I would go around with my wagon picking up trains, that people threw in the trash every spring. Also, I built a waste oil that helps heat my shop for free!
I am working on a 1957 Chevy 2 door from the ground up.
Please like and subscribe to my channel and I will do more to post and update anything that you all want to know more about

Looks nice
It is really nice, I might do a video for his layout!
@@ChrissTrainsandMore I would love to see that
Nice layout he has 👍 great looking trains Chris
Yes it’s really nice!
Very nice layout he has!
Yes it is!
Very cool, Chris! Thanks for sharing this glimpse of your friend’s railroad. Bill B.
Thanks Bill
Hey Chris, looks great. Never thought about re-purposing this Rail King barns. I’ve been trying to find the house in O scale. I’ve seen the 3D printed HO version. Nobody is doing it in O scale. Maybe your influence will make it happen????
Thanks 🙏 Where did you find the house in HO I haven’t seen it yet. Thanks for watching
Awesome collection from subscribers you well deserve that train collection you seem like an extraordinary guy god bless you 🙏🏻 🙏🏻 and your family 🙏🏻
@@ericwilliams2619 Thank you Eric, I try my best to show how much fun this hobby is and all the great people you can meet! Thank you for your support and encouragement! 🙏
Very nice additions here these subscribers gave to you! That was very nice of them. Btw I also have a 259 locomotive but a 259e but in the gunmetal gray scheme and the wheels are alittle different there like darker kind ones. Btw thanks for sharing all of this!
Yes there are some great people in the hobby. Thank you for your support and thanks for watching!
That was a very generous gift. I hope you'll find the time to restore everything. Those complete sets are some really unique one of a kind items to have in a colletion. It's really unfortunate that the CP Alco was painted silver, considering it's a rarer version of that model of Alco's. I would restore it back to its original color. I think the shell is molded in green plastic, and silver paint is one of the easiest paints to remove. I would try different solvents. I've had good results using isopropyl alcohol or Simple Green being careful around the original graphics. I've had some lettering reacting to the solvents while others weren't affected at all. Heat stamped lettering seems less affected. To clean and condition plastic shells I use the blue Dawn dish soap with the duck on the label and scrub with a tooth brush. For tough stains I use Bon Ami powdered cleanser avoiding any printed graphics as it will remove those also. Mister Clean Magic Eraser works similar but I prefer Bon Ami on plastic as it does not contain any abrasives like Comet does and it's easier to work into crevices. I've even used it to remove water stains on my cars windshield without scratching it. Once the shells are clean and dry I use Turtle Wax plastic restorer to bring back the color intensity and luster to like new condition replenishing the plastic molecularly rendering it less brittle. However it wont remove the scratches.
Thank you for all the info and advice I will definitely try to see if it works as I clean up some of these trains. Thanks again for your support!
Great video chris!
Thank you Mike!
That is pretty wild. There's a life size one on I-270 around Rockville, MD.
It definitely is a very cool building! Thanks for watching!
That is awesome Chris, really cool , I have the 666 Marx , you got all kind of stuff 👍 very nice collection cool jr train I would not no what to say if someone did that since I have been in hobby for a few years I have met nothing but awesome folks in hobby stores and internet, it is a great hobby with great people 👍 you have a great channel Chris it’s one of my favorites my friend you make it simple to watch 👍😎
Thank you so much for your kind words of support!
What an amazing gift you received Chris!! It’s every train lovers dream come true. Congratulations on a great train haul. I hope you consider doing videos on these beautiful trains after you do some preventative maintenance. 😃 Tom
Yes it was a great gift. Thanks for watching
This is awesome. There are a lot of great people in the model train community. Congratulations on your new additions Chris.
Thank you Corey! Yes there are many great people in the hobby just think that’s how we met!
Very nice! There are a lot of great subscribers that donate to various channels that they like. Lots of great trains, that won't take too much effort to clean and get running. You could set-up a locomotive shop scene with some of those engines, or even a scrapyard scene. Great stuff, for sure. An excellent video, as always.
Thank you 🙏 and thanks for watching!
Absolutely amazing. I too have been very fortunate to receive MANY generous gifts from my subscribers. I do my best to bring everything back to life.
I will try to get them all back to running condition! Thanks for watching.
That’s our TRAIN community Chris! Congratulations! 👍
Thanks 🙏 and thanks for watching!
Awesome chris !
Thanks Ray!
First visit to Train Station was around 1979 on a visit to Columbus. Seems they had more stock back in the day compared to my last visit in 2023. My only complaint was on the last visit no one else was in the store......but I was never even spoken to.....ODD.
It’s a great shop! I always start up a conversation with anyone in the shops I go to, some like to talk and some don’t. Thanks for watching!
Cool!
thanks Corey!
Do you know how to get to the control settings of the cab 3 app? To update and stuff.
You have a to swipe down when you have the Base 3 app open not on the Bluetooth but base 3 and then you’ll find the wi-Fi settings

Chris, plz do finish out this 390. railings are easy. I use a welding wire that is so close to original size. Harry sells the holders too.
I did put the rails on the 390, I used copper wire it came out great. thanks for watching
Chris, My father's only train was a Lionel "O" gauge 253 & it's 3 cars. my older brother & I beat it a lot too. it was the 1930 variation with the orange stripe. a friend of mine got me back into prewar Lionel & especially Standard gauge. up until 1979, I had never even heard of Std Ga. I restored my dad's & got many others now. I starterd my own RUclips channel showing a few of my trains. plz look it up. I show a 380 I did to make it look like a 408. have you a 380 with the added lead weight to it? I have one that I painted in Blue Comet colors, it is a "408" like one too. I am so glad you are restoring it. I have used Harry too for parts. he is nice.
I just had someone give me a 253 and it still runs great. I love all these trains and sharing them with everyone!
Been alot better if you would tell the price before someone drives there
If you pause the video you can see some of the prices. Or call the store and ask how much they are charging for item. I’m just trying to show what the store had on the shelves. Thanks for watching
Been there, great store and great place to train watch…….nice town.
Me and my wife had a great time and can’t wait to go back. Thanks for watching!
Been going there since I was a kid! Awesome place!
What a great place I just wished I was closer! Thanks for watching!
Need more explanation than just showing assembling Don’t see evidence of written directions
The kits are universal and have to be made to fit the locomotive being upgraded. There is a wiring diagram of the board and what the wires should be hooked up to. If you are close to northeast Ohio and need some help I could help you! Thanks for watching!
I grew up in Columbus and was a regular there in my late teens (I’m 56 now). I remember when one of the employees was planning and building the HO layout that is STILL in the store window! (back around 1988) That place is like a time capsule to me, like a walk back in time to my teen years. I love that it hasn’t changed a bit! Still have all the Athearn, Atlas and Roundhouse rolling stock that I bought there and got all my Kadee couplers there to convert my horn hook couplers. Bought stacks of magazines from there too.
The layout is really cool and I he guys are very nice and helpful. And they have a great selection of trains and accessories. Thanks for watching!
Blue Caboose used to be just down the road
How long ago was that?
It's a great store, been shopping there for decades. I like to support the small shops. They almost always have what I'm looking for. Definitely THE best train store in central Ohio.
Yes it’s a great place I loved walking around and checking out all the different trains in hey have in stock! Thanks for watching!
Very nice ! I will be making some for my new train room
Thank you 🙏

Whats your pond float/filter look like? We have a pond filter system and are starting to add to it. I'm looking to learn about it and get some more understanding of everything and the build out. Currently its straight through UV and Carbon/Sand filter. Need to add the alum and clorine setup and retention tanks next. I'd like to take the simplistic process of replacing the filter on the float filter int he pond but I also fear working through the priming process. We have a local guy that works on these for most the area who use them. I'd just like to take on what I can myself like filte replacement, media replacement, and so on.
The float is made from a 5 gallon bucket with a cone type roof to help wildlife to stay off of it! The inlet pipe is inside of the bucket with multiple plastic screens inside, this keeps the inlet off of he bottom so it doesn’t get mud into the pipe. He his was something my uncle built and it has lasted for 20 plus years. Once a year it needs to be checked but most times only needs sprayed out a little bit and put back together. While doing this process I try not to pull the inlet out of the water so it’s not to worry about any priming issues.
Sorry for the late note, and yes it is a cool building, missed out on the first run maybe if they make it again I can get it for my layout.
No problem, I’m thinking they might make another run of these. Thanks for watching!
Hey, what is the tunnel clearance height as the train crosses the bridge? Do you know how long it is?
The length is 33 1/2 it can hold two trains side-by-side 8 inches. And the height after my modification 6 inch from the railhead to the top of the bridge for clearance. Thanks for watching!
Thanks
Looks great Chris 👍 i got mine under my layout for rolling stock n some engines i need to build some like yours on the wall , you done a great work on them Thanks for sharing
Thank you! I want to make some for under the layout after I get most of the layout done. So is not to make it harder to get under while I’m building. Thanks for watching!
You’ve got $100,000 worth of trains there and you can’t see your way clear to buy a couple of $20.00 saw horses to keep from cutting off your hand?
lol I have 2 sets of sawhorses downstairs, and didn’t want to stop to get them. I was trying to get that done before it was too hot to work in the barn. I did carpentry for years and have had to make do without in some cases. But I probably should have taken the couple minutes to get them! Thanks for looking out for me and thanks for watching.

Yes you can buy all types of shelving but I like to make my own! It fun to build them.

When Building a Train Layout wouldn’t you want to Build your shelvings First?
I can walk all the way around my layout, so not really you don’t want the dust from cutting all the bench work to get on the shelves.

It’s nice to see them and enjoy them even when they’re not running!
AWESOME project
Thank you! 🙏
The shelves look good Chris. You made it look easy!
Thank you Corey! For me it is easy, I’ve been building stuff like this all my life and now I building something for me! Thanks for watching!
Happy Fathers Day Chris! I made mine out of 3/4 plywood and ripped them on a tablesaw to 3"? I'll have to double check that measurement. I used the pro Kreg tool for mine with a 6" space between screws. These locomotives are very heavy. Also I do not try and hind the screws because I want the most meat on the screws also I have glued mine with the best wood glue you can buy. If you want have a look at the ones I built so far. I have made 4 of them so far and I plan on making 6 or 8 more. Great work on your display shelves my friend. Frank
Thanks Frank, I thought about using plywood and do that but I found a good deal on these boards and it saved me some work. I did a test on a 24 inch one. 2 holes and I put 40 lbs on it attached to the side of the layout and left it like that for two weeks. So I think I’m good if I decide to take them down to paint them or stain them, I may actually put a plywood backer on them and then glue them will have to see. Thanks for watching.. Chris
I also used the 3/4 plywood for the back. I just have to take them off the wall and stain and varnish them. I’m glad you tested them first. Better to be safe than sorry. 👍
Hi Chris. Really enjoyed it. Like the jig tool to drill hidden holes. I have the shelves routed (that's what we call it in UK) with two parallel grooves to accept the wheels from the trains. So they sit straight on rhe shelf and also I think they are a little more secure. Stuart
Hello Stuart thanks for reaching out! I was thinking about cutting grooves for the wheels, but I wasn’t sure about sliding them in and out of the shelves something I might do later. I’m going to test these out and see how these work! Thanks for watching
Hello from the UK. A very helpful and useful video thank you. I have a 1999 Premier Daylight with Auxiliary Water Tender and a Railking Y6B Mallet to do. Can I ask a few questions for guidance please? 1 What is the red U shaped fibre looking piece on the workbench that I don't think you used. 2 Are the MTH upgrade kits then universal for any PS1 Steam Engine or do I need a specific one for each of my engines? 3 Do you buy your upgrade kits from MTH direct? 4 What is the thermo grease you use please and why do you need to use it? 5 What's the purpose of the antistatic mat and is it a must? Many thanks. Much appreciated and has encouraged me to have a go. Stuart
Hello Stuart, and welcome to my channel! I would be glad to help you out with your questions. 1 I think you asking about the shim that if needed to lift the plug in the locomotive chassis so it lines up! 2 they are universal kits and have to be modified to fit the train your installing it on. 4 Yes most of the time or if I know someone who is selling one! 5 It helps with heat transfer and needs to be used to transfer the heat to the heat sink! Thanks for watching Chris
@@ChrissTrainsandMore many thanks.
