That was a very generous gift. I hope you'll find the time to restore everything. Those complete sets are some really unique one of a kind items to have in a colletion. It's really unfortunate that the CP Alco was painted silver, considering it's a rarer version of that model of Alco's. I would restore it back to its original color. I think the shell is molded in green plastic, and silver paint is one of the easiest paints to remove. I would try different solvents. I've had good results using isopropyl alcohol or Simple Green being careful around the original graphics. I've had some lettering reacting to the solvents while others weren't affected at all. Heat stamped lettering seems less affected. To clean and condition plastic shells I use the blue Dawn dish soap with the duck on the label and scrub with a tooth brush. For tough stains I use Bon Ami powdered cleanser avoiding any printed graphics as it will remove those also. Mister Clean Magic Eraser works similar but I prefer Bon Ami on plastic as it does not contain any abrasives like Comet does and it's easier to work into crevices. I've even used it to remove water stains on my cars windshield without scratching it. Once the shells are clean and dry I use Turtle Wax plastic restorer to bring back the color intensity and luster to like new condition replenishing the plastic molecularly rendering it less brittle. However it wont remove the scratches.
@@ericwilliams2619 Thank you Eric, I try my best to show how much fun this hobby is and all the great people you can meet! Thank you for your support and encouragement! 🙏
Very nice! There are a lot of great subscribers that donate to various channels that they like. Lots of great trains, that won't take too much effort to clean and get running. You could set-up a locomotive shop scene with some of those engines, or even a scrapyard scene. Great stuff, for sure. An excellent video, as always.
What an amazing gift you received Chris!! It’s every train lovers dream come true. Congratulations on a great train haul. I hope you consider doing videos on these beautiful trains after you do some preventative maintenance. 😃 Tom
