The van is fantastic, I love it. Just the other day I was up on the Sunshine Coast at Noosa, Queensland, Australia. I live in Brisbane. We were walking along the beach and just beside it there is a car park with about five or six vans fitted out to be campers lined up. They had all the comforts of home, ok simple but all you need to be comfortable and everyone was enjoying themselves. I thought of Jade and could imagine her somewhere camping and having a good time.
@@PensionersinPortugal Oh wow, maybe you two should go with your van as well and give us a look around? Portugal would be nice but since it's out of the question for the moment the Lake District would be lovely.....I hope Jade has a lovely time there.

Hi David, thanks so much for watching and your positive comments :) We're hoping to get back to Portugal this year, just need the borders to open and get things back on track, take care, Elaine
You couldn't put the charger on the dash here. It would get to hot and stop or break. Also, the window holder of the phone. Battery would get to hot, may stop or the battery would explode. I've seen it. But I do live in the Southern part of the US. Y'all did a fantastic job on the micro camper! Good Luck Jade.
A cracking van layout with the emphasis on KIS...................keepin' it simple. I am doing a micro build at the mo using a nissan nv200. Great bed set up and lounge area. Your layout is quite innovative when considering all the other layouts seen on you tube. Best wishes Mike, County Durham
Cheers Mike, thanks for the lovely comments. Your Nissan will be bigger than the Connect and give a bit more space, great idea. It would be great to see what your finished van looks like, if you're happy to share some pics 😀 Thanks Elaine

Desmedida, A revolta imensidão Transforma dia a dia a embarcação Numa errante e alada sepultura… Mas corto as ondas sem desanimar. Em qualquer aventura, O que importa é partir, não é chegar. Miguel Torga
Your conversion work on the van was spectacular. Very simple but very interesting to organize and very comfortable. Congratulations! Good travels and I leave you a beautiful poem. Travel I rigged the boat of illusion And I reinforced the sailor's faith. It was my dream away, and treacherous The sea… (We are only granted This life That we have; And that's where you need to To search for The old paradise That we lost). About to drop the candle And he said goodbye to the pier, to stunned peace. Excessive, The immense revolt Transforms the vessel day by day In a wandering and winged grave ... But I cut the waves without getting discouraged. In any adventure, What matters is to leave, it is not to arrive. Miguel Torga
Hi Linda, thank you for your lovely comments, yes it's an high and long connect, so it was a good space to work in. Great to fit a full length bed! We thought it was great space for 1 person, but if you don't mind, I could suggest another channel, that we enjoy. Athena Mellor, she has a similar van and there's 2 of them plus a dog! Take care
A drop down table on the rear door would be easy to add and useful. She can use it to work from, eat from etc and sit on the day bed with her feet out the rear doors looking at the scenery 👍🏼 wouldn’t take up any space either. You could even add it on a movable arm/support to swing inside the van if needed.
Thank you :) Yes we got it from Amazon, we use it in both our van and Jades. I have put a link in the description if you are still looking :) Thank you very much indeed :)

Hello ,thank you :) Only small power appliances are used, such as mobile phones and usb lights and everything is charged as the van is running using the cigarette lighter socket. Thank you again.
I have a question about the overhead bin. My promaster city has airbags tucked up by where the overhead bin opens. Does the transit connect not have that? I haven't been able to figure out how to install a bin there without messing up the airbags. Or, do I just do it and say to heck with them?
@@PensionersinPortugal Yes, it does. Thanks. My promaster city has air bags in the dash and also just above where the seat belt anchor is on the panel between the front and sliding door. It's making it hard to figure out how to install a shelf as you have done. Thanks much for your reply.

We're hoping to get back to Portugal this year, just need the borders to open and get things back on track, take care, Elaine
Hi Melinda, wow the heat must be unbearable. ...I'm sure Jade won't have that problem, though she got some sun screens for the windscreen. Take care
Enchanting videos - thoroughly wonderful. Happy motoring!!
Thanks very much indeed :)
A cracking van layout with the emphasis on KIS...................keepin' it simple. I am doing a micro build at the mo using a nissan
nv200. Great bed set up and lounge area. Your layout is quite innovative when considering all the other layouts seen on you
tube. Best wishes Mike, County Durham
Cheers Mike, thanks for the lovely comments.
Your Nissan will be bigger than the Connect and give a bit more space, great idea.
It would be great to see what your finished van looks like, if you're happy to share some pics 😀
Thanks Elaine
Looks great! Nice and tidy. lets hope she keeps it that way.
Hello Patrick, I'm sure she will....she's quite house (camper) proud, thanks for the positive comments, enjoy your day!
Ohh, build me one now! She is a lucky lady, hope she enjoys it
Hi David, finding the right van was more difficult than the conversion....and as you can see, we kept it simple and you don't need loads of expensive tools and gadgets. Jade was out today on a hike/picnic and has just turned up for a chat & cuppa!
Thanks for watching & your lovely comment, take care
@@PensionersinPortugal decent vans are currently rare as hens teeth in Ireland, anything 2010 onwards I see as affordable has had the guts run out of it, anything decent is too close to new prices, you did well to get that.
Maybe next year🤷♂️😁
Hiyya Pips, love that, suits you two. Catching up from New Zealand. Love the van conversion. She will have many happy times and memories.
Hello Ivy, thanks for the lovely message. Jade loves it!
Looks very nice
Thanks Norman :)
The daybed wins hands down as the best feature. Lovely little van. Could I as what the title of the end song was? I love all the music you use for you videos 💜
Hi Sandra. Thanks for your very kind comment about Jade's little van, we love it too. The last song on the video is called Barefoot by Slowfly. Thanks again Elaine and Darren.
Nice build. What is the length of the bed from back doors to the back of the front seats?
Sorry for delay in replying, the bed is 183cm long back door to back of passengers seat...just right for Jade, she's 178cm!
amazing job , just bought myself connect :)
Thanks Antony, we just wanted to keep it simple and it really paid off.
It would be great to see what you're up to with your van, if your happy to share, Elaine
@@PensionersinPortugal it really did pay off the van looks great and the video was brilliant aswell. Came across your channel yesterday and I've subscribed 👍. I'll attempt to show off what I do to my own van .. thankyou for your reply
Ant
Hi guys!! Fantastic job on the van. I noticed the lovely quilt on the bed and I have a feeling Elaine made this. I had seen another one she made for your van. You could set up a PIP shop in Portugal to sell your hand made quilts! I'd certainly buy one!! Take care!
Thanks so much, glad you liked the van and the quilts...well I crotchet when I get cheap wool from the charity shops...and you're quite right there are a few in our van too. Darren loves the idea of a PIP shop! Take care, Elaine
Very nice! Safe travels🤗💕
Hello Rita, thank you so much 😊
lovely
Hi Sam, thank you
Loved the whole video. Thanks again for an interesting episode 😄. Saw you on the Cindy Vine vlog recently, it was great to hear all your thoughts and future plans too. 😃
Hi Beverley, glad you enjoyed the video.
Cindy was so lovely to chat to, I'm quite in awe of her spirit!
Take care, Elaine
Ficou espectacular o vosso trabalho de conversão na carrinha. Muito simples mas muito interessante a organização e está muito confortável. Parabéns! Boas viagens e deixo um poema bonito. Viagem
Aparelhei o barco da ilusão
E reforcei a fé de marinheiro.
Era longe o meu sonho, e traiçoeiro
O mar…
(Só nos é concedida
Esta vida
Que temos;
E é nela que é preciso
Procurar
O velho paraíso
Que perdemos).
Prestes, larguei a vela
E disse adeus ao cais, à paz tolhida.
Desmedida,
A revolta imensidão
Transforma dia a dia a embarcação
Numa errante e alada sepultura…
Mas corto as ondas sem desanimar.
Em qualquer aventura,
O que importa é partir, não é chegar.

Thank You so much for such a lovely message and wonderful poem. I have translated below (as best as I can). Thank you again :)
Your conversion work on the van was spectacular. Very simple but very interesting to organize and very comfortable. Congratulations! Good travels and I leave you a beautiful poem. Travel
I rigged the boat of illusion
And I reinforced the sailor's faith.
It was my dream away, and treacherous
The sea…
(We are only granted
This life
That we have;
And that's where you need to
To search for
The old paradise
That we lost).
About to drop the candle
And he said goodbye to the pier, to stunned peace.
Excessive,
The immense revolt
Transforms the vessel day by day
In a wandering and winged grave ...
But I cut the waves without getting discouraged.
In any adventure,
What matters is to leave, it is not to arrive.

@@PensionersinPortugal Obrigado
great job :)
Thanks :)
Great build!is it a stndard connect or an xl?
Good idea Steve and something Jade had mentioned, but she's out and about in it now, so perhaps next time!
Uve all done a great job. Do u mind me asking where u got the water container from please.
Thank you :) Yes we got it from Amazon, we use it in both our van and Jades. I have put a link in the description if you are still looking :) Thank you very much indeed :)
Looks great well done , Jade ça join you in Portugal now !! Best wishes happy travelling for all the family ! What did Max think of it ?
Hello Claudine, thanks for the lovely comment.
Jade would love to travel Europe, Portugal especially when the borders open, take care, Elaine
Loved the van. Where were you?
Hi Dot, THANK YOU. We were in a place called Frosterley, which is in County Durham in the UK :)
I thought it was Weardale near Wolsingham , but you need to be less secretive , because Andrew Dutton is always transparent regarding where he is . People would like to know the beauties Weardale holds .
Good thinking. That's why I wrote exactly where we were in the title. We were in Hill End near Frosterly. We also did a what3words which gives our exact location. Thanks for watching, we hope you enjoyed the video.
Great work what connect did you go with a swb or a lwb?
It's a lwb
@@PensionersinPortugal thanks so much for the reply :-)
Very nice compact van conversion. Can I ask where's the drone footage taken from at the end please? It looks really nice wherever it is.
Hello, thanks very much for your kind comment. It's a place called Hill End near to Frosterly, in County Durham. It's a cool place. Thanks for watching :)
Van looks great love the place in vids is it a privet camp site nxt to river
Thanks again Gary, it is a beautiful place....a real haven mid-week and caravan site further down is private, one of the few left that hasn't been taken over by big business. ...forcing out those who can't afford brand new caravans every few years!
Your daughter is an adult... 😮
Seems like you did all of the work including packing up the van...
However, you did a wonderful job
Our daughter did most of the build, but didn't want to be on video. Is it a problem that we helped? Thank you :)
Hi!
I found your mattress solution very impressive. How did you find the right size of mattress bits?
Thank you, I measured the sizes required and ordered it from efoam online. I've used them several times and they are very good and quick.
Hope that helps, Elaine
@@PensionersinPortugal ah great, thank you for your quick response:)
Pretty cool! Can you explain your electronics charging method? Thanks :)
Hello ,thank you :) Only small power appliances are used, such as mobile phones and usb lights and everything is charged as the van is running using the cigarette lighter socket. Thank you again.
Hi it is Peak district ? thanks
Hello, no this is the Durham Dales. It's a place called Hill End near to Frosterly in County Durham. Thanks to you too :)
I loved the music! Who was it?
Hi, Thanks.
The Music is from Epidemic Sound. Barefoot by Slowfly and All day in bed by Bang Bang.
So pepper spray is illegal? Hmmmm. On a TOTALLY unrelated topic, she may want to keep an aerosol can of wasp/hornet spray handy for pests ;)
Thank you :) Sounds like a good plan, pests can be a problem in warmer climates :)
I have a question about the overhead bin. My promaster city has airbags tucked up by where the overhead bin opens. Does the transit connect not have that? I haven't been able to figure out how to install a bin there without messing up the airbags. Or, do I just do it and say to heck with them?
Hi Jane, not sure what 'bin' you referring to?
The overhead shelf in the cab does not affect the airbags, they're in the dash board. Hope that helps
@@PensionersinPortugal Yes, it does. Thanks. My promaster city has air bags in the dash and also just above where the seat belt anchor is on the panel between the front and sliding door. It's making it hard to figure out how to install a shelf as you have done. Thanks much for your reply.
Love the music
Thank you :)
Why didn't you show the bed made up. How long is the bed?
Hi Antony, we did show the bed made up, Jade pulled it out and showed how the cushions fit in between the back of the passenger seat and the sofa. The bed is 180cm long & 70 cm wide on the pull out section. Hope that helps
Mop bucket?
The outside will always need washing!
You can use it to forage.
You can use it to collect water.
You can pee in it!
