I love the duck bowls, one perfect and one imperfect, together forever. Thank you Marc Balet and Homeworthy for giving viewers a treat of someone's creative life. I also love the cleverly designed curvy dining table.
Thanks for your post/comment! I’m really interested in seeing a variety of humans from all walks of life that live in eclectic and aesthetically pleasing homes that are unique. I’m really getting tired of only watching homes that are from extremely wealthy individuals who have been blessed to have inherited so much expensive items and have had the opportunity to travel without working hard for their money. I’m not knocking them down in any way, I’m just looking for more interesting places around the world. ❤
@@joanwalters4741 It's a "bit". Totally planned out as to be funny. Not rude. May not be funny to you, but it is interesting you think that the camera crew just shows up at their door unannounced?
Pensei exactamente o mesmo e é a casa mais bonita que eu vi neste canal, cheia de personalidade, aliás as casas dos arquitectos quase sempre são especiais 😍💖🇵🇹
I liked Marc's take on not living in nostalgia. It's an interesting apartment with a lot of wonderful pieces. I'm starting to appreciate more color and graphic art currently, so I appreciated much of what he had on display.
What an interesting man! I can totally understand his attitude about wanting to move on to the next phase of his life, but this amazing home would be like leaving an old friend behind & never being able to see them again. Whoever buys this place will have such a perfect dream loft space, he has done so much work to it! He has so many stories to tell & I became overwhelmed to the point of tears thinking of his dedicated housekeeper gluing back together all those pieces of the broken bowl, she sensed how distraught he was when it arrived broken! No one does all that for someone who isn’t truly wonderful & means so much to them...I wish him the best in his next home!
I loved this episode .Marc offers so much nostalgia and is just so down to earth. Love how he has kept things basically the same and the stories he shared. So unpretentious and lived in, the walls could talk. As an artist I found these glimpses into the Warhol era a real gift .
I’m a lifetime New Yorker, at 59 I can say that this is my new favorite Homeworthy video. I don’t have this sized apt, but my studio is filled with books and prints and photos on the wall; finally somebody who looks like they actually live and collect things. I love it. I hope he’s just as happy wherever he goes. And all the Interview/Warhol history, wow.💜
He’s living in a home, a place he loves and is filled with his life’s memories. People need to be more secure in themselves to live in a home, not an assemblage of the ‘latest’ that has no soul.
What an extraordinarily interesting man. The way he casually speaks of Andy Warhol, Fran Leibowitz, Sophia Loren, Steve Martin, Carol Channing, Peewee… what a life. Being in New York in those decades is truly a time capsule we’ll never see again. I could listen to these stories forever… and the treasures that fill this home… what an exceptional space.
II've heard Fran mention him / this house in interviews, and am so glad that you both created this tour before he moves on. Such an interesting, authentic person who has been lucky enough to enjoy making it his own these last few decades. So much rich history there!
Truly New York City in every way -- starting from how Marc finally obtained the loft he wanted ! Such a New York City story --- and every NYC native has at least one!
So this was a year ago, where did Mr. Balet move? I hope he is happy…You can grieve for your former ‘nest’ that you loved, so I sincerely hope he kept to his philosophy of looking forward, and not back. Thank you so much for being so open to share your home with us.
Hands down my favorite Homeworthy tour (and I’ve loved and inspired by a lot of them). It could be he’s just an all around interesting humble guy who has amazing stories, or because I just find that time in NYC fascinating or because I love an artist home (art everywhere that’s personal and collected over time, has this not trying too hard just threw together the things that they love and somehow it just all works together beautifully). Love this and honestly sad to hear he’s leaving it but happy the photo wall will come to his new home. I need to be on the look out for his book, he’s saying he’s writing because I have a feeling we got just a tip of the iceberg of stories. Thanks for sharing your home and stories with us Marc!
I was just thinking the same thing!!!! This is quite a score Homeworthy!! I’m an addicted subscriber now. He can barbecue but he can’t bake. I am in stitches.
@@melsmithmelHe doesn’t need to drop names. These are his beloved friends, so of course they are going to make it into his stories. I drop the names of my friends all the time and no one says anything about it. 🤣 Then again, I’ve no friends of the same renown as Marc’s circle of intimates.
I first saw this house when he had Fran Lebowitz over and I loved that interview. She kept on saying how much she hated his place but thought it was just gorgeous and still think so. I wonder why he's selling this fabulous home of his and where he's going next. If this was my home I would never leave. Also, I'd love to be invited to his home for coffee !!
Firstly, what an incredibly kind housekeeper! Spending her time mending the swan bowl ❤ Secondly, what a wonderful man! So down to earth, warm and fascinating. (I'd very much like to hop on a plan and meet him for a chat, coffee then drinks 😄). A beautiful beautiful home and real. Fave 'Homeworthy' tour ever. Oh, loved 'Interview' magazine. Wish it was still going ❤
Marc is a cool guy. I was a teen and early 20's in the 1970's and I really enjoyed listening to his memories of that time. I like his philosophy about not living in nostalgia. My favorite story was the one about Debi Mazar teaching him how to use his oven. I really like her. It will be a treat to hopefully see his next home on Homeworthy.
Wow....this has to be one of the all time best episodes. I love the homes that are curated and not created. An authentic interior that reflects a fascinating life.
This is absolutely extraordinary. What a gorgeous home! It's like it's not even in the city, I love this! The art is unique and truly meaningful. So impressive.
I was fresh off the boat (well, plane) from Mpls to NYC for the first time w/ my portfolio under my arm hoping to score a job in art direction somewhere in the Big Bad City. Interview magazine was alllll the rage...so I called up the offices, to make an appt, and Marc answered the phone... he said" yeah..come on down"...so I hopped in a cab for the first time! He was very friendly and gracious as he looked thru my portfolio. There was no art director position available coz he was a one man show! But he was kind enough to make a call to the creative director of Bloomingdale's: John Jay...and after my appt w/ Jay..I was offered a job! But I ended up (stupidly) taking the job that paid the most dough: BBDO ad agency, Beeeeeeeeg mistake..but I hung in for 4 years. Marc..u are da bomb! Thanks for your kindness! You are a wide net creative and a very sweet and humble human to boot!
What a fascinating man! Marc Balet has so many stories to tell and I love listening to him share his life with us. We are so lucky and honored to meet these interesting and fascinating people on Homeworthy. He has such an artistic and beautiful home. I could literally look at all the art and photographs for hours. I will admit the stairs to his bedroom scare me. Thank you, Marc and Homeworthy for another great tour.
I really enjoyed this episode!!😁♥️ I mean, I Love all the Homeworthy videos, but there is something about this one that made me watch it twice in a row😊 He seems like such a personable, authentic, nice person and I Love his home(even though he’s moving😢) I thoroughly enjoyed this🌺
I really dislike homes curated to impress guests at huge expense. This was fantastic and all about his actual life and times spent in a place he built to live, work, entertain and chill out. All the impressive art originates from actual relationships and stories, not bought at tge highest bid as "decor" or some "power statement". A really interesting, warm home, he's a refreshingly unpretentious, creative and really legendary person, who's still remained grounded. And his place really reflects his personality. This is really a unique and truly artistic, truly NY kind of space full of fun and life! I do understand the need to move on after so many years, and I'm sure his next space will be just as great!
Ooooo my goodness I love this man. He is just himself. And I love his place and things that are special to him. Obviously it helped that he has all the connections that he has. I would like to see more of this than this super over perfect interiors with the emphasis on interior and not home, that you can't even see if somebody lives there. Love this love this.
If those walls could speak, the stories they could tell. I am so in awe of Mr. Balet and I could listen to his stories all day! I will never have a home as luxurious as his, though it is heart breaking in a way that he is selling , or was at the time of me watching this, such an amazing iconic place. Whoever now resides there I hope they know just what a special treasure they truly have.
Very interesting home. I saw a previous video of Mr. Balet's with that photo collage still up. I would think before you put it back up Mr. Balet in your new place, that you will have a book made out of it. That would be a top seller for sure! I've known of you for many years having been a fan of Mr. Warhol's and having many books on him. Lots of interesting things though I understand your wanting a change after so many years there. I think you're making the right decision. Great getting to understand more specifically your role at Interview magazine and seeing first hand some of the projects you were involved in. Thanks for that info. That kind of information can be hard to come by. Hoping to see future videos of yours.
I totally enjoyed this House Tour of this very elegant down to earth gentleman. Surprised he didn't mention Warhol's lime green Electric Chair (@17:06) silkscreen. Absolutely iconic image from his Death and Disaster series and worth about $8 million. Having myself lived though that era (late 70s- 80s) was an incredible mind blowing experience but like Mr Balet I'm also not nostalgic and agree that one has to always be looking for new things to discover in order to keep one's mind fresh and open. The other really striking thing is how the East Village changed from a burnt out war zone/ open air drug market and morphed into a place of super gentrified luxury condos. It's still however a fun and creative hang and very happy to report the old Pyramid music venue on Ave A will be reopening this spring.
He’s really lived life and shared so much which made for a very interesting interview. My favorite part of his home was the roof with his outdoor shower and iconic water tower. The rest felt unsettling. Also, he said we should move on although it seemed like the past was his present. 🥂To you and your new home
Fabulous apartment!! I would love it here! So gorgeous, the art, the light, the outdoor spaces, beautiful!! I can’t wait to see what you do with your next home. This one has so much rich history. Fascinating!
The cooking bit had me in stitches!! You are remarkable. Once you hit that staircase……you really started to love the camera. Thank you for sharing.👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽🙏🏽

I am now 77 about to move to south of france to continue my contemporary pop art! I was perplexed why Marc would want to sell, until I saw those stairs to the loft bedroom! No matter how fit you are, as you approach a certain age steep stairs are confronting. Marc seems like a great guy, love his attitude and home.
Wow! This was gorgeous. Those geese bowls! The house has fantastic energy and an electric atmosphere, so warm and friendly but so smart and energetic. It feels alive rather than static. I think I'd feel both welcome and challenged every time I visited. No human would have to prod me to inspire this reaction-- the home itself would do it. Wonderful. You can tell at a glance that a workaholic, voracious, curious, sociable man lives there. Self-propelling, curious and bold people are my very favourite. Thanks for this tour, I really enjoyed it.
I love this so very much. I just love Marc and I adore his bestie, Fran Lebowitz. If I had a cool six mil just lying around I would jump at the opportunity to buy this loft from him and fill it with my own creativity and love. 💜💜💜
Wow.. So cool.. AND so much wisdom! His take on nostalgia woke me up to what I was doing. Looking back too much.! What a well lived life from an amazing guy !!❤️
Oh! To own those Warhols! If he ever needs money, he can just auction one off. Love the place. I would never sell. The parties you could have! I loved Interview Mag. When I first saw one in the oversize format I was blown away. I wrote to Andy on a piece of clear iridescent paper begging for a job. He didn't hire me ;o(
There were far too many people who wanted to work with Andy Warhol, me included. He had many young people at his "Factory" hanging out, getting stoned, partying and working (many for free). Andy was famously tight (as Marc had mentioned) and didn't pay much but many would have paid to be there.
Came for the interior, stayed for the stories. What a guy!
