These top 10s are my favorite videos on the channel, so much fun! I'm glad you talked a little about re-use in Mythic Legions. The fans who complain about any re-use of parts make me a little crazy. Everyone knows (or should know) that molds are expensive and getting as much use out of them as possible is the only thing that makes action figures as affordable as they are. And Four Horsemen especially has been very smart about re-use. A quasi-medieval fantasy world of knights, orcs, etc. is basically perfect for exactly that.
I enjoy the fun anxiety of making lists, imagine a pile of articulated action figures finding the right pose and display on the shelf. It's enjoyable hobby for all.
love Warduke, but upon opening and attempting to put the sword in the sheath the hilt broke off, and he tipped over to have one of his head-fins snap (it plugs back in, but the tip broke off). I know everyone is going to claim blasphemy, but I kinda wish they released this exact fig in the original scale.
@@ToyGalaxy And I do love him, and I think you position for him in your list is totally justified and perfect. Maybe I got so overhyped for him, I built up too much greatness in my head. Do regret selling all my originals a few decades ago. And I am really looking forward to Strongheart and where they go with this line.
9:48, I was in the same boat. My Target has been having a mass exodus of clearance items this week on top of the $25 off $100 toy deal and I ended up picking up 3 of the Signal Man figures. I'm going to use them as some type of enforcement team on my shelves 😂 Not proud of the amount I spent this week on toys but nothing was full price that I picked up so I justified it, the joys of being an adult collector!
Hi Dan, reading your article (on this very subject) in Toy Collectr #5; I dont know if you respond to these messages: do you speculate on how future toy releases and how they might impact your Top 10? Just wondering how a showdown between the Skystriker and Classified HISS will fare...perhaps its just a Future Dan problem, but looking forward to your take. I know you are a fan of aircraft, but I think the HISS might just supplant...
I'm still kind of on the fence as to whether or not I want to include vehicles. If I say "no" then it's not an issue. If I say "yes" then matters are complicated. Probably going to be a last minute decision either way. Or... maybe they aren't Top 10 worthy even if I decide to include them. This is what I love about the process. This is "fun" for me. 😄
I decided to be smart this year and actually keep track of what I buy so I'm not confused at the end of the year and trying to remember when something came out. I saw the Animal Warrior figures yesterday, and I do like them. I'll probably get the tiger guy, but I just wish the heads were a little more cat like, instead of human like with cat features. Looks a bit too much like Ron Pearlman's Beauty and the Beast, but hey.
I had the NECA Last ronin and alf in my hands yesterday. Being a broke college student i felt like i should only get one and i went with the last ronin. I really want that alf now.
The boys and I always find ourselves in a "chefs only" meeting for about a 1/2 hour when your videos come through... weird..🤔love the channel! Preciate ya, sir!
My favorite I've bought this year is Zog. He's such a big beefy boy and just looks perfect. I'm not sure he'll be topped, though I have some worthy contenders on the way. I also still need to get Warduke. It looks so good!
i dont collect, im more of a board game guy, but i had to get a warduke. he was so cool i ended up getting the grimsword too, just so any future kids would have a pair to play with
I just came across my old MSIA Burning Gundam the other month. I kept my figures in their trays even back then 😅 just that old clam shell blister isn't secure so some of the fiddly bits are missing like one of the Vulcan guns
As far as ALF, he looks like he might be the right height for that Red Desk from Space Ghost Coast to Coast, if you have it. And I've used that desk for Classics Starscream for years, cause I thought it was funny.
Currently unemployed so my choices have been limited but favs of the year so far: 1. Alf (NECA) - Cartoon display option is a plus. 2. King Hiss (MOTU Origins/Mattel) - Best version of this character. Love the options and switchable parts. 3. Blue Senturion (Hasbro/Power Rangers Lightning Collection) - Too expensive and overpriced it would be higher otherwise. 4. Frontline Chaos HANA (JoyToy) - First JoyToy item. My love of girls in maid outfit + 6 inch scale was an easy pick up. 5. Android Body Krang (The Loyal Subjects/TMNT) - I've heard nothing but bad things from TLS's TMNT line but this is a decent figure that fits in with various TMNT lines as a decent price. It will probably not make if I buy other things by the end of the year but still props to a decent product. 6. Egghead (McFarlane/Batman 66 - A Vincent Price action figure. It will probably not make it if I buy other things but I'm glad to add it to my collection. Currently waiting on Action Force items that will blow many other figures out of the water.
I had a lot of vintage DnD figures as a kid, and was SUPER disappointed when the cartoon they released didn't feature a single one of them.... LOL Imagine what a different cartoon THAT would have been?! So cool. Regardless, I played with them until they mostly fell apart. Might have to get some of these new ones, for old times sake!
The cape on that Dracula is straight FIRE! Also, not for nothing, but it's great to see so many 1:18 scale figures in the top ten! 1:18 Forever! 1:18 for life! 1:18 for a hunndred years Morty!
I have yet to open all the parcels i’ve received since late January. At this point I may as well save every parcel and unbox everything in time for my annual Xmas Top 10 and 2023 Top 10+!
I came back to this video months later to see if it was true that Alf's mouth closes because I remembered you mentioning it, and I never would have been brave enough to force it, but sure enough, it closes.
As an international backer who only brought from wave 1 of the AWOK line I’m a bit disappointed I have to wait for wave 2 to arrive before getting my kickstarter order fulfilled. They look incredible and the anticipation is killing me.
Love the mythic legions Duban and Boreus and Mafex Huntress. I love the Jada monsters. You technically modded some of those figures with custom capes… wasn’t that a disqualification in previous years, or is that just me. It was the reason I couldn’t keep Storm shadow in my top 10 from last year. The gridiron upgrade pack was awesome. My Boss Fight skeletons arrive next week.
Yeah modding in the past has been a disqualification. But these are just capes thrown on that could easily be removed and it wouldn't effect their placement at all. The decals on the Skystriker I wouldn't count either. Part of the intent with that set was the customization. But I appreciate you remembering that rule!
I can't believe Dracula ranked 10, lower than wicket. Great accessories, great extra sculpts and that cape is one of the best at this scale. The articulation range is not the best but it's articulation covers most poses that you would want this character to do. And it sounded like the Mrs. liked wicket more than Dan did.
That is a wonderfully diverse group. Top ten are coming later this year. Very excited for Indiana Jones. Top five for sure. Waiting for the Joes. Snow job and Torpedo are definitely top ten. Wicket is in my top ten. There’s Cosmic Legions coming. I bought into wave two of Spero toys. I really like they darker ale figure with mohawk and purple color. Marvel Legends is making a classic Hawkeye in sky sled. The mats probably top ten for be. I know if vehicles were in my top ten the Trubble Bubble and HISS are right up there. The McFarlane 89 Batmobile is going to be pretty awesome! From coming Indy line Short Round is probably top ten. The new Black Series R2 is most definitely a contender. So I’m thrilled to have Wicket, Warduke, and Indy. I realize there are some big hitters to come later this year.
I love these videos. The rules are equal parts logical and arbitrary. I could see myself doing the exact same thing with the criteria if I were trying to rank a year's pickups.
Did you get ROTJ Black Series Boba Fett? One of my favorites so far. Also liking The Fallen. What it lacks in transformation and alt mode, it makes up for in robot mode.
Dang I don’t think I have one figure at all… yet I’ve not really bought much new this year, mostly buying stuff I missed last year so though they’re new to me.. not really new… I did pick up classified dusty and cover girl and those are there for sure… though I did do a head swap on cover girl to where she looks more like a cover girl now ❤ with the ML Kate Bishop head from the show… lol. Looks way better! So guess yup that bit of a custom… and dusty and cobra Kai power ranger Daniel are my newest pickups
Neca Warduke really impressed me. Mythic Legions Duban is the same head as one of Father Christmas. They are painted different and Father Xmas is hoodless. Sometimes I see the heads pop up for sale on the secondary market especially right after release.
Agreed that Duban could have come with an unhooded head. To nitpick though, Duban and Father Christmas don't share the same sculpt. The beards are very different, and Duban's head is sculpted and engineered to fit in the hood, like Vallak's head is.

Alf should’ve been number 1, especially given that those Micronaut rejects were higher up. And an airplane. And lion-o’s grandpa. Arguably the one I would’ve put possibly higher than Alf you put lower, which is the Dracula figure. The Warduke figure is, admittedly, cool, but I would put it second.
