- This Subaru had a differential problem at the shop and I was called on to pull it out. I did not see a whole lot of info on line so I made a video. I hope it is helpful and thanks for watching! Sub for more!
Thanks for the video.
I am in the process of changing my transmission and was under the impression that would have to remove the engine first.
I know better now.
I truly appreciate the details.
That’s why I make videos. Thanks for taking the time to make a comment.
Helpful video, thanks for taking the time.
One thing I learned during reassembly was to tip (or pry) the engine back to reconnect the top bell housing bolts.
Yeah I do the top from the top. Thanks for the comment!
Pry pry and pray 🙏🏼 thank you for the vid just did one of these today.. same thing happened to me.. was stuck on the dowels on both sides... some penetrating oil, torch and patience. It'll come right out 💪🏼
Yep thanks for the comment! Defiantly the hard part thanks again!
Great video, I used a ratchet strap tied to the rear axle to keep a constant tension while separating the trans.
Thank you and thank you for the tip
My thought also
I remember working on Subaru's in the 80's. When we would remove a transmission, we would cut the bolt heads off of bolts to use a guide pins for installation aide. My mind is toast now. I don't remember why we did that? lol.
Who are Subarus have a really long
The new ones have long studs coming off the engine that I think replace what you’re talking about
Awesome Job Dylan
Thanks!!
Simply awesome 👏
Ty!
Great video, what kind if transmission is on the 2010 Subaru Impreza outback sport automatic?
Probably the same one
How long did it take you and do you know if a 2012 Subaru Impreza is similar? Im debating on trying to do this myself
Probably very similar would be very helpful to have a lift probably takes me one hour two hours the most to get them out
How are you able to find the holes on the fly wheel when you put them back ?? That must be tricky
Not easy just lay low and look from the front by the fans.
Accurate.
Thanks for the comment!
Thanks 👍💯💪
No problem!! Thanks for commenting!!
What do you charge to swap one out?
Right around 1200
@@doingstuffwithdylan4367 here in MD. Transmission shops are asking $950, and auto shops are asking $800, I'm mobile, and I would do it for $750.. Thanks for the response, what state are you in?

@@doingstuffwithdylan4367 Well, I guess if people are paying that out there, that must be the going competitive rate there. I would charge more here to, because I do a lot of things most mechanics/technicians don't do, but the competition here is to much. To many fly by night wanna be mechanics here, ripping people off, and never return to finish the job, and or fuck the job up so bad, people end up calling me to fix it, then wonder why it's so much more afterwards.. LOL Pay me now or pay me later..
you left the engine on one brace??
It has two mounts and sits on cross member thanks for the question!
Hi again, I have a question: Any ideas what I should check to stop the flashing AT Oil Temp light on the dashboard?
Here's the backstory: I just finished installing my salvage yard transmission. I filled the transmission with 2-gal dex3, then started the car and shifted through the gears while stationary. The AT Oil Temp light was flashing.
I put the transmission in park and topped off the transmission fluid. Meanwhile the engine and transmission warmed up. I checked the fluid level several times after shifting through the gears while the car was stationary. Fluid level is perfect.
The ATF Oil Temp light on the dash continues to flash steadily.
The transmission shifts normally through the gears while the car is stationary.
Until I figure out what the flashing AT Oil Temp light means I will not drive the car.
Have you cleared the codes? Are there any codes? Thanks for the comment!
@@doingstuffwithdylan4367 no codes with my OBD2 reader. I don't think the reader can read transmission codes from the TCU. I plan to look into resetting the TCU...Looking for instructions online now
@@doingstuffwithdylan4367 I checked codes but it doesn't matter. In order to check codes I had to drive the car. Front differential howls like a SOB, so the transmission I just installed is a POS. I guess I'll get another one and install it again
@@bertmaster2000 wow what a bummer! Good luck and thanks for the update!
