The discussions in the background take the listener way back in time. With all the visuals of the city of '01 it almost felt like I am feeling nostalgic about a memory I never had. Thank you for this amazing piece of video.
What a wonderful time it was to live in the city. Less advertisements, less traffic all were synced to perfection almost. Poeple were patient, they would listen to you sincerely. I lived in the city throughout my life, but still never got to see the city my father got to see. I wish that we could get our glory back.
Discussion in the back ground was amazing, ❤. I was only 1 yr old though at that time, but still had some vague memories of this calcutta , wooden busses, streets full of ambassador cars, its nostalgic.
I was 9 years old in 2001 and I was in Kolkata (for the 2nd time in my life) for a family holiday in December/January. It was a winter vacation away from school, as soon as my Standard 3 mid-term exams ended. Getting to Kolkata from here in Dhaka by bus took us, a group of 3 families travelling together, an entire day but… it was still worth it. Even after my father suddenly banned all of us from participating in Christmas celebrations, we still had the chance to do a bit of shopping at the Kolkata SuperMarket and visit some of Kolkata’s popular tourist attractions which included : M.P. Birla Planetarium, Science City, Nicco Park, Kolkata Museum and the Kolkata circus which took place on the night of the New Year’s Eve. As soon as the circus ended, we were fortunate enough to have witnessed fireworks in the night sky from the roof-top of the hotel we were staying in at the time. The 3 families travelling to Kolkata at the time were : my family consisting of my parents, my little sister and me. My father’s late business partner, his widow, his son and his daughter. My father’s maternal uncle, his wife and his younger son. Nostalgic but also… bittersweet memories; ‘bitter’ because Christmas was deliberately taken away from us and ‘sweet’ because we had the chance to enjoy everything else.
Indeed, RUclips's a time machine. I wanna thank you deeply from the bottom of my heart 'Maurice Gubbay' sir for this gem of a video. So, my city looked like this around 22 years ago, i didn't knew of it. Watching this video in a chilly winter afternoon in Kolkata. (Nov17'2023)
A lot of nostalgia. Looks like it was early 2001 as that TMC protest near Gandhi statue happened around that time. Also, no Park Street flyover, Rediffmail billboard on Park Street/Chowringhee crossing and that Music World store (before internet k1lled it) on Middletone Row crossing. Golden days.
oh it's so nice to listen to the background discussion and look at Kolkata as it was on 2001..looked at those silvery buses, musicworld...and many other things which r no longer there...A glimpse into my teenage days...feeling very nostalgic
It feels so amazing to watch the roads of Calcutta the way they were 23 years ago. Park Street and St. Xavier's College, I would like to mention particularly, was stupendous because I can relate to it being a present student of that college.
2001 kolkata was so much more bengali-eish and better than today's kolkata. I think kolkata is becoming more n more crowded and with it more garbages and more wasted products can be seen everywhere. I hope the Bengalis of Kolkata revives the city and make it what it's known for. 🙏
Kolkata has become much less crowded than it was during the 90s or 80s , chiefly because many people had left the city with its decline during the 70s and 80s.
there was no go pro i guess at 2001 also no iphone was that popular. also the quality of the video footage is like a vga camera. thus probably a basic camera i guess

Nice joke. Kolkata is several times better now.
Your frustration is clearly visible in your sad comment. 😂😂
