- My Grandparents Ashoke & Supriti Ghose Chaudhuri tied the knot on 27th January 1957. I was lucky to find their wedding film shot on Kodak 16mm. The reels survived but not in the best condition. I had them shipped to #kodak digitizing in USA to professionally digitize the 2 reels and ensure the integrity of the film and the quality of the final product. I couldn't be happier with the results.

"সিম্পল লিভিং হাই থীংকীং" বলে একটা প্রবাদ আছে যেটা সেই যুগের সেই প্রজন্মের বাঙালীরা আদর্শ মনে করতেন। সেই প্রজন্ম আজো আছে বঙ্গে। আজ বাঙালীরা, বাঙালীর উর্ধে ওন্ন জাতীদের অনুকরন করে কারন বাঙালী জাতী আর নায়ক হতে পারছেনা বা স্পষ্ট ভাবে বললে "হতে দিচ্ছে না"। বাঙালী কে জোর করে হারিয়ে দেওয়া হচ্ছে যাতে সে নিরুৎসাহিত, পরাজিত মনভাব নিয়ে ওন্নদের অনুকরন করে আর পিছিয়ে থাকে। যাই হোক। আমার মুল কথা আরম্ভেই বললাম।

27 এ জানুয়ারি 1957, দশ বছর ও পূর্ণ হয়নি দেশের স্বাধীনতার।। তখন ও কোলকাতা দেশের আর্থিক গতিবিধির কেন্দ্র।।
1957 সালে বিয়েতে মুভি কেন ব্ল্যাক অ্যান্ড হোয়াইট ফোটোগ্রাফ ও দেশের 1 পার্শেন্ট লোকের বাড়িতে তৈরি হত না ।। তার মানে আমরা দেশের একটি অত্যন্ত বিত্তবান (1957) পরিবারের বিবাহ অনুষ্ঠানের সাক্ষী হলাম।
আজ এই অনুষ্ঠান দেখে মনে হচ্ছে কত ই না সাধারণ কিন্তু 70 বছর আগে এরকম জাঁকজমক কল্পনা করা যায় না।

এই ভিডিও এক হারানো সময়ের দলিল। সেই কলকাতা, সেই মানুষজন, সেই রীতিনীতি, সেই আন্তরিকতা সব কিছুই আজ পাল্টে গেছে। সৌভাগ্যক্রমে এই ভিডিও সেই সময়ের একটু ছোঁয়া দিল। ধন্যবাদ জানাই সৌভিক ঘোষ চৌধুরীকে, কারণ তিনি ডিজিটাইজ করার পর আমাদেরও দেখার সুযোগ করে দিয়েছেন। খুব ভালো লাগলো।
এ যেন টাইম মেশিন এ চড়ে ষাট বছর পিছনে চলে যাওয়া, খুব ভালো লাগলো।
মনে হলো তরুণ মজুমদারের একটা বাংলা চলচিত্র দেখলাম। বড় প্রাপ্তি 19 শতকের অনেক ব্যক্তি যাঁরা ওই শতকের 70/80/90এর দশকে জন্মে ছিলেন তাঁদের দেখলাম।
এখনকার মতো আড়ম্বর পূর্ণ লোক দেখানো নয়। অত্যন্ত সাধারণের ভীষন ভীষন আন্তরিকতার ছোঁয়া। যিনি পোষ্ট করেছেন ধন্যবাদ।
পুরনো স্মৃতি সর্বদা মনকে আপ্লুত করে, এই জন্য হয়তো একে আমরা "অতীত" বলি 🥺♥️♥️

I like my generation, it's trends, it's fusion. But I'd love to know more about my authentic bengali traditions, my roots where I've come from. For that reason thanks a lot for uploading this. 1957 is the same year in which my paternal grandparents got married. So for me it's kind of special too.

This is a remarkable insight into a bygone era where, as you say, we got a rare glimpse in to the lives of your forefathers and their extended families. God bless you! Bengali marriage is often shown in movies that of west Bengal . In East bengal the marriage ceremony is as beautiful if not more. And the bride is not lifted up by others. She goes around the groom by walking with flowers in her hand seven times . Exchange of garland and seeing each other is done standing. It is very beautiful. The marriage is lengthy and more elaborate .

This video is a goldmine. It shows how rich bengali culture was in the 1950's, only 70 years ago, even after going through the ravages of British colonialism and Bengal partition. The bengal's youth since 1970's have been totally misguided by the oppertunistic politicians since 1967 and has driven down the state into bankruptcy.

I spoke to my father and got to know HS Ghose Chaudhuri was my grandfathers best friend, and supposedly present in this marriage. I am looking for him in this video, may be I will find him. In fact, IG Chaudhuri was regular in our home, my grandfather passed away in 1983 before I was born.
