I spent some time wondering whether Sam Kerr or Tim Cahill was my pick as Australia's best ever soccer player. I am now wondering if Mary will become my pick as the best. Her vision and skill with passes, especially long releasing passes is elite, her 'turn on a postage stamp' agility mesmerizing, her finishing poise and power a joy [how good was her penalty shootout take !!]. And more importantly, she seems to be a wonderful human. What's not to love, and be proud of as an Aussie??

Mary is definitely more of a playmaker than a striker, an attacking midfield role is better suited to Mary
She is an all rounder but she got very strong thigh muscles for the powerful strikes in goals. Shes the only 1 who can score from midfield accurately. Love to see her every game.

Watching Mary play is alot like watching the Tillys play, it's just fun football to watch. She is such a talisman to her teams. She makes good things happen. Mary sometimes looked uninvolved or disinterested in some games but i think this was just about needing to learn how and when to inject herself in the play. She needs a cool nickname though, I nominate:
" The strangler".

@@lynettemahoney1710 I live in Australia and I never heard of Cleary until he was going with Fowler. No-one in the southern states of Australia knows who Cleary is. All of Australia knows Mary now and most football fans globally. So we can keep going around in circles here. If you truly watched the Matildas you would know more players than Kerr. Cleary is a big fish in a very small pond - Mary is a big fish in a very big pond - that's the difference.
Thank goodness for Mary because Sam Kerr should never play for Australia again.
