Dan Byford, the inventer of the Zonker in 1973 while we had a fly shop in Steamboat, CO, would be pleased to see you and many others still tie and believe in the Zonker,. BTW, his chessie retreiver was also named Zonker! Stay the course!

Nice fly. I just tied up a bunch of Zonker type flies for some stillwater fishing. Good idea with hook choice to prevent short strikes. I just used straight shank streamer hooks so if I keep getting short strikes maybe I'll change it up.

I think the long hooks really help. Still keeping the same sized body, but getting that hook point back towards the tail makes a difference. While I've been stripping and kind of swinging a few pockets, I think this will be super effective to swing on some larger water. Thanks for checking it out... nice videos on your channel, I just subscribed

Is this heavy enough to cast with a spinning rod? I'm learning to tie streamers to use as a search type bait and occasionally even jig for trout but using spinning gear. I'm slowly getting into fly fishing, but I really love the feel of direct contact with the lure that you get with a spinning rod. This fly looks great!

The strip and weight should keep it riding true

Won't it swim with the hook point up?---No offense. Just asking.

No worries - nope it will always ride rabbit strip up, hook point down
