I see three realities: 1. Valve immediately cancels it. 2. Valve continues to develop it and it doesn't pick up steam and dies out in 2 years give or take. 3. It's a smash hit, gets 10 years of major updates and grows a huge cult following. Only to suddenly stop getting content aside from cosmetics and bot accounts take over the player numbers. Considering Valve is numerically challenged when it comes to the number 3. I feel like it's the least likely of those options.

On the topic of Valve not having bright maps, its for a gameplay purpose. The maps are muted, but the characters have more vibrant colors. TF2 is a great example, since the shirt colors never match the building colors.

Even for alpha this looks really good. I don't get why people say that it's awful. Most alphas are awfull. Do you remember Minecraft alpha? Yeah, exactly the same thing is here. Game looks awfull but becomes really good in beta. I will not be surprised to see this game pop and become popular.
It doesn't look bad at all, just rough due to being an unofficial test game. It really looks like a love child between CS:GO, TF2, HL2, and DOTA -- all their legacy IPs showing their charisma in one video game. I'm honestly looking forward to seeing what Deadlock would look and feel once it's released, since these test footages shows that Valve is still holding back content before release.
For me the skepticism comes from the same place as Artifact. It was a game that seemed to follow the Hearthstone trend rather than being the trend setter. And that's what Valve is known for. Non-eucludian geometry was never a thing in game design before Portal, Half-Life 2 was the trend setter for physics engines in games, TF2 was arguably one of the first hero shooters in existence, Half-Life Alyx set the bar higher for VR after Bomeworks. I could go on but you get my point. All this aside, there are still people waiting for TF2 updates and of course the infamous Half-Life 3, a project that HL:A Seemed to set back in motion 4 years ago.

Can they just call it "Team Fortress: Future Business" or a Team fortress title with no 3 in it. But the Game doesn't feel ANYTHING like a TF2 game. This game feels like Valve wants to Remake TF2 just like how ID Software did with DOOM 3 but wanting to remake the series.

Bland colors help the vibrant colors pop. It's really an eye sore to have everything be vibrant, just like you said. In Fortnite, my eyes start to bleed after an hour or two.

The former was a community gamemode that's been around for ages ported over to VScript (by the community), while the latter is a community-made map for a mode that's already in the game: Player Destruction. "simple anti cheats" are no longer viable in the modern day as it quickly becomes a competition between developer and cheater. I don't think you undertand this, but NDAs exist so people participating don't go around revealing your sauce to people.
There are multiple reasons for this, you don't want your game ideas to be stolen by other companies, story content can be spoiled, public interest is negative because theyre are all seeing your unfinished alpha thrash version.

I think the reason why there's a lot of hate is because we're so used to seeing AAA games have really bad alphas or betas and not changing at all after launch. Nothing is fixed it's just the same as the beta and they'll fix it after 13 updates. But hopefully valve isn't like this
I still think that's such dumb reasoning tho. Every alpha ever looks like dogshit, that's what alpha means. By definition, it is NOT fully developed yet. I honestly think that if you want to be fair, you have to wait and reserve your judgement of a game until it is fully developed and officially releases to the public. If I break into the kitchen and eat raw meat that hasn't been cooked yet, I literally have no one else to blame but myself for getting whatever diseases. If I leak a game and play the alpha version, I again have no right to complain if the experience is heavily unfinished.
Also don't forget glazing over the most cash grab ones such as ea, activision and ubisoft, and ignoring the nice ones like sony compiter entertainment, nintendo, etc.

No the reason there is hate is because thier is a bunch of tf2 and half life fans salty valve doesnt give a shit about thier old as fuck 2005 source engine spaghetti code franchises. With source 2 who knows what valves got cooking. Richard lewis said they have at the very least 3 games in development rn, this is one of them.

Monday Night Combat exists. Its the template for Shooter based Mobas. Plants Vs Zombies GW, battleborn, etc. It's been done before, and it doesn't look that bad so far if its just alpha footage.

Valve is amazing at polishing games if they still hold themselves up to the quality they've had in the past, so it's going to improve tenfold before the eventual release.

I dont care if this game is in alpha, from a fundamental standpoint a 6v6 competitive moba shooter is a horrible idea, no matter how the game looks. We dont need another E-Sports, just make something fun first and a sports last.
Even for alpha this looks really good. I don't get why people say that it's awful. Most alphas are awfull. Do you remember Minecraft alpha? Yeah, exactly the same thing is here. Game looks awfull but becomes really good in beta. I will not be surprised to see this game pop and become popular.
It doesn't look bad at all, just rough due to being an unofficial test game.
It really looks like a love child between CS:GO, TF2, HL2, and DOTA -- all their legacy IPs showing their charisma in one video game. I'm honestly looking forward to seeing what Deadlock would look and feel once it's released, since these test footages shows that Valve is still holding back content before release.
And still no Half Life 3 😭😭😭
For me the skepticism comes from the same place as Artifact. It was a game that seemed to follow the Hearthstone trend rather than being the trend setter. And that's what Valve is known for.
Non-eucludian geometry was never a thing in game design before Portal, Half-Life 2 was the trend setter for physics engines in games, TF2 was arguably one of the first hero shooters in existence, Half-Life Alyx set the bar higher for VR after Bomeworks. I could go on but you get my point.
All this aside, there are still people waiting for TF2 updates and of course the infamous Half-Life 3, a project that HL:A Seemed to set back in motion 4 years ago.

But the Game doesn't feel ANYTHING like a TF2 game. This game feels like Valve wants to Remake TF2 just like how ID Software did with DOOM 3 but wanting to remake the series.

Bland colors help the vibrant colors pop. It's really an eye sore to have everything be vibrant, just like you said. In Fortnite, my eyes start to bleed after an hour or two.

Deadlock is like many thing: not for me, but I can recognise that it seems like it will be good. Also, I would not really call it bland at the moment, more like blank. Like a blank canvas, left open for now to be filled later.

My only concern is that with Marvel Rivals also on the horizon with characters we already care for, so even if the game is great Valve still needs to draw people in with the characters and eventual cinematics. But I got hope for it!

@@vinterrev1326 A simple anti cheat would go a long way in helping the problem. The source code for Source being available isnt nearly as big of a deal in this sort of situation as many would think. If that were the problem any game made in a publicly available engine like Godot or unity would be screwed. the issue mostly just comes down to simple neglect of the game as they really havent tried to fix the issue so far

The former was a community gamemode that's been around for ages ported over to VScript (by the community), while the latter is a community-made map for a mode that's already in the game: Player Destruction. Valve just decides what gets added every seasonal update.
@@ShadeAnris Then the bot creators find a way to circumvent the anticheat in what? A day, a week, a month at best. "simple anti cheats" are no longer viable in the modern day as it quickly becomes a competition between developer and cheater.
If valve wanted to fix tf2 their best bet would be making the game pay to play and then implementing an anticheat with an extra community element like csgo had with overwatch, at least then it would become financially unviable for bot creators to continue cheating.

It can only survive if Valve pumps money into it, but on its own, it looks like a flop.
