      Exactly. This performance is very different from other performances. The melody is also different from the original. They unfortunately reacted to my less favourite performance of her. I really wish they'd react to other performances like the grammy museum, live from Paris and long pond studio.

    Her other all too well performances sound nothing like this one, bc I think her idea was to make it closer to the first time she ever wrote this song and sang it on the piano, she’s trying to sound as raw and as imperfect as possible bc that’s how she sounded the first time, the shaky voice, the pauses, the trying to deal with the breakup and trying to figure it out the song at the same time and even the times she kinda chokes or her voice breaks and it’s seems like she’s gonna cry. The studio version is actually different and there’s no pauses and even some notes are different. Taylor has sang all too well so many times and she has years and years of practice and vocal lessons, no one is perfect all the time, she does mistakes sometimes but I’m telling you that 90% of the time what people think it’s a mistake she’s actually doing it on purpose and always with an idea in mind, Taylor was never one to sound completely perfect in her singing bc what she wants the most is to pass a message, a feeling and a certain mood, you guys mentioned the yelling part, she does yell, that’s on purpose, that part of the song which is the bridge it’s where she’s feeling the most confused, angry, hurt and all those at the same time and it’s like we’re in her brain and she’s yelling at the person who did that to her and she’s letting it all out! If she didn’t yell at the bridge all too well wouldn’t be all too well and that’s actually the favourite part for fans and critics!
    I appreciate your comments, I would just ask you next time to think that Taylor is probably the smarter female artist out there, that women doesn’t do anything that’s not on purpose, I’m telling you!

    you can watch another performance of all too well, i would recommend one she did on the grammys
    i think she's changing here stylistically, of course I don't know anything about vocals, but this is not how she usually sings this song
    At this time, she was really like maybe trying this style, because she did this type with her song "lover" as well

  • @No1MCfan

    These are some great points for people wanting to improve their own singing!
    I do think it’s also important to note that an artists singing ability can not be judged entirely based on a single performance. Stylistic choice, tiredness or even illness is always a factor in how someone performs on any given day. It would be interesting to see you two react to other Taylor performances as there are many examples showing how capable a singer she is.

    excited for you to dive into her vocals and see how much she has grown. her vocals in her re-recordings really show how much her vocals have improved and changed. She also knows her singing voice isn't her top thing.. she knows that without her songwriting she wouldn't be successful. Swifties love her because she is always working on herself improving, admitting her faults, and growing.

    She sang the song with a great deal more strength and volume at the 2015 Grammies. She sings it on most of her tour stops during 2018's Rep tour. Here, she seems to be working at evoking the sadness she had when she wrote the song. tbh, it sounds like she might have a cold, too.

    Interesting reaction! You guys pointed out some interesting details in this performance and I agree with them. When I first heard this performance I also thought that she’s singing in a talkey way. Like others have said this is not how she usually sings this song so it would be super interesting if you guys listened to another performance of All Too Well. You would probably find plenty of differences in it and I’m sure you two would enjoy it. Hopefully you will also do other songs by Taylor in the future! 😊

    As a Swiftie I'm loving your honesty. I too think that Taylor might not be one of the best or greatest singers in the world, but she's a great songwriter and a storyteller.
    But of course there are times that Taylor would really surprise her fans with her vocals. A great example is during her 1989 Tour and Reputation Tour. I hope you could react to one of her performance there.
    Thank you for your videos it's really helpful, especially for those ones who wants to sing properly. We are able to understand how our voice works if we sing like this or that. Always take care guys! 💜

    Honestly the tiny desk performances are not a great choice to react to her vocals because that's not usually how she sounds. it's not near her best live performances. Taylor is usually really good with phrasing you should react to Don't Blame Me from her reputation stadium tour on Netflix or her AT&T event in Chicago where again she did all the songs acoustically and was way better

    I love your comments on this performance and about her musicianship in general. Of all the times she has sung this song, technically it’s not the best. But emotionally it’s one of my favorites. I think Tiny Desk films early in the morning and she sounds really froggy, but in a cool way. She’s in full-on storyteller mode in this intimate setting. She’s not trying to vocalize at you with some words. She’s whispering her deepest thoughts and feelings to you set to music. She can, and has, belt the crap out of this song but for whatever reason chose not to. As a fan it feels really special.

    Here’s a performer that I would really like to get your reaction to. As a background, Angelina Jordan (16) began singing at 1 ½ and making several studio recordings at 6. She’s a self-taught child prodigy, who grew up listening to jazz and the blues. At 7 years old, little barefoot Angelina auditioned for Norway’s Got Talent. Angelina arranged her music and delivered spot-on performances of jazz classics that stunned everyone. She was so young you can even watch her permanent teeth filling in from her first and last performance. The outcome, Angelina swept aside the other finalists and won as a newly turned 8 year-old.
    The first piece is her ‘black and white studio performance’ of "I Put a Spell on You" (Screamin' Jay Hawkins, 1956). At 9 years and 2 weeks old, Angelina had arranged the music for the band, her lyrics, and gave a performance that shouldn't be possible for a 9 year old girl. Many have said she has a very old soul when it comes to music.
    The second piece I would love to get your reaction to is Angelina’s (13) audition for America's Got Talent the Champions. Angelina, as is her way, sang her own unique arrangement of "Bohemian Rhapsody" (Queen, 1975). Not only did she receive a golden buzzer, advancing her to the finals, she got a tweet from Queen for her rendition. Here are the links:
    "I PUT A SPELL ON YOU" (black and white studio performance) - ruclips.net/video/nwFloCPXzCs/видео.html
    AGTC - "BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY" (includes golden buzzer) - ruclips.net/video/tC1hD7k_WTw/видео.html
    ***Angelina Jordan is known as "the Barefoot Princess" or "the Barfoot Princess of Jazz". Here's the background on why she goes barefoot whenever she performs on stage or while making a studio recording:
    The story is that when living in the Middle East, at age 6, she came across an orphaned girl earning money by weighing people in the street with a bathroom scale. She noticed how cold it was and that the 6-7 year old girl was not only barefoot, but had scars on her feet. So 6 year old Angelina took off her own shoes, shoes that she loved, and gave them to the girl. Angelina decided she wouldn't wear shoes in her performances to remind her of all the children in the world who had no parents, proper clothes, or shoes. Hence, you will hear her called the "Barefoot Princess", or the "Barefoot Princess of Jazz". Of the encounter, little 6 year old Angelina wrote in her diary: “The world is very strange. Right then and there I felt as if a door in my heart opened up, and it was filled with lots of lights. It was as if there was, from Earth to Heaven, a staircase. I climbed the stairs. To be able to do something for another human - it was such a big thing…hard to describe really.” In 2015, at 9 years of age, Angelina wrote a book about the encounter, making her the youngest published author in Norway. The book and the attire Angelina wore for her AGTC audition were designed by her grandmother who was a child prodigy in art.

    TBH when i saw NPR reaction i was excited but not when i saw All Too Well. This ATW wasn't the best out of the NPR performance. Taylor's best NPR performance IMO is "Death By A Thousand Cuts". She likes to put spins on her every performance so like, one performance sounds very different from the other. Good versions of ATW are from SNL, Grammys, and Rep tour.
    I understand that you can make out examples of what (not) to do from these "not the best" videos but considering this is your first official reaction to her, I wish you'd pick ones that are more collectively loved for the sake of good first impression before we go to the "mediocre" ones.
    I'd suggest "Don't Blame Me" from Rep tour, "Cardigan" studio version or Grammys both are fine, and (MOST recommended for versatility) her "Artist of the Decade performance" at AMAs 2019.

    I have heard Taylor sing this song many times. I don't think this was her best performance. It makes me wonder... the room where she did the NPR tiny desk is super small. The people in the room are almost on top of her. I think it effected the way she sang the song. Compare this performance to where she did the same song at the Grammys. So, again, it makes me wonder if the size of the room made a difference in the way she performed it.

    The reserved and quiet way Taylor performs this version of all too well is 100% intentional. She’s played it countless times over the years, but her fans have not ever seen it sung in this style.
    I think Taylor chose to showcase this masterpiece of song in this way to offer up something different and unique, which builds to artistry, attracts more attention to tiny desk and the other songs she performed there, and gives the fans something that they haven’t already seen before.
    I don’t think it’s really fair to say that she’s not singing well or that she isn’t as capable of a vocalist without also mentioning that this is clearly purposeful and an intentionally stylistic choice.

  • @christinar7900
    @christinar7900 2 года назад

    Taylor is definitely my favorite artist but I would agree she isn’t the best vocalist but she has improved a lot even after this performance with COVID downtime from performing.
    I always feel like her performances are more conversational/performative than someone like Ariana Grande. Also pretty sure Tiny Desk doesn’t do a lot of sound editing unlike something like the reputation tour performances on Netflix. That is why it is a good reaction for vocal coaches. SNL is similar I think.

    Well just as you yourselves said She's Taylor Swift, and she has the greatest career because she is The Great Singer besides being a great musician, song writer and storyteller. Teaching is the purpose of the video right? But I doubt your honesty in it because of all your disclaimers given at the beginning like you knew nobody gonna like what you're up to say and only pausing right when you wanna show " example". So I don't think it's a reaction (specially first time) It's more of looking for a performance of her to critique, Cause it seems as if you had already had your opinions about her singing and then chose to react to this version of All too well to prove it !!
    Although I don't know who would want lessons from pretty average singers as vocal teacher but I wish teaching IS your goal not using her name for views.😏

    • @godcaoss
      @godcaoss 2 года назад

      What is the problem accepting your fave singer is not a great singer? Taylor is a brilliant musician, as her carreer clearly shows. There are plenty of unknown people that are a lot better than her, unfortunately not everybody get the same chances as her. In metal we have god level female vocalists, yet they are nowhere near Taylor's "fame". The industry works in a way where you almost always won't have the best singer getting all the praise. If Taylor played jazz I doubt she would be where she is today. She is incredible, but she is clearly not the best when it comes to singing.

    • @zarim9774
      @zarim9774 2 года назад

      @@godcaoss Because of the guys in this video and the way they put out their opinion ! I never talked about any other singers neither compared like these guys did But regardless of everything never call anybody's hardwork and talent "chance". Taylor is famous for a reason ! No one ever accept and call some artist whom main career is singing "The Music Industry", if she's not even a great singer :/
      I don't know much about Jazz but what I know is that Taylor has already passed this challenge, too by winning 3 Album of the year Grammy Awards in 3 different kinds of music ( country , pop , alternative/indie ) and no wonder why she's called "The Genre". So who knows if she can't rock in Jazz too?
      Ok ingnoring who Taylor is and why she is who she is today, Let's say YOUR fav is not a great singer. Answer honestly, Would you ever accept it when you literally hear that the first time from some random guys? Specially when you realize they didn't even tried to check out their whole career, they just obviously searched for one specific version of a live performance to prove their opinions? Wouldn't you think that's not honest at all instead of saying "oh yeah they're right, a singer with such mindblowing abilities is not great only because some vocal coaches who themselves aren't great at singing and nobody have ever heard of them said so?
      Look there's a difference between reacting to someone then telling your opinions about them and what they did here. If they had done that professionally I would definitely listen to them with out any guards on. If they wanted to show her vocal essus and find this performance, then they could also watch other lives of her in comparison like Don't Blame Me, Out Of The Woods, Blank Space, I Did Something Bad, The Man, Look What You Made Me Do, and literally any other lives ... . If only the purpose was teaching as they claim, but no they come to conclusions with this 1 live. This is the problem for me! Not Taylor's abilities in singing which she totally doesn't need somebody to defend neither I don't ever argue about it with anybody. And what they said proved me nothing but the fact that they're only using her name that's all love.

    You want to hear a great singer? Floor Jansen.
    Taylor is just a good singer, yet I enjoy listening to Taylor's music A LOT more than the ones Floor wrote (her singles and After Forever/Revamp era), and Floor is LEAGUES beyond Taylor when it comes to vocal technique.
    You people need to get over the fact your favorite artist may not be that great at singing, but in the end this is not what matters most. That are a lot of beautiful voices out there with nothing to say, but Taylor in all her simplicity can touch so many people. It's ok not being the very best.

    I know some people comment that they like your honesty, so I hope you don't mind some in return..........I watched your video of your reaction to your own singing and to be honest, I think you're good singers, but not really great, just average. Being a better than average singer is one of the requirements for me to take seriously what a "vocal coach" or "vocal teacher" has to say.

    • @ChaseandMelia
      @ChaseandMelia  2 года назад +3

      I think we would both agree with you that most of our own singing on our channel is not "Great" singing. When we do these reactions we're certainly not saying we're perfect examples of the things we're pointing out or addressing, but that we strive to be better and we hope other aspiring singers can do the same. We firmly believe in the process of learning and growing being more important than the product. We've seen absolutely incredible vocalists and singers try to teach and fail miserably. Teaching is about communication and sure you do need to have an understanding of the skill or craft, but do you have to be the best at it to communicate a technique or theory? No, we don't think you do. That's why most of the famous vocal coaches or teachers that are out there, you've never heard of. Teaching is a skill. Singing is a skill. Teaching singing is not the same as being good as singing, and being good at singing doesn't automatically mean you're good at teaching singing. More often than not, some of the BEST singers, are as good as they are because they've focused on their own voice. This type of focus doesn't give you the skills to help others sing, only yourself.

    Loved this review. Thank you for distinguishing a great musician versus a great vocalist. Taylor IS an incredible musician and her vocals while pleasing are inefficient. Maybe this is why it’s so hard for me to imitate her singing style…

    • @sakinaalia1067

      They’re not inefficient. They fit her songwriting and in other performances her air doesn’t break up. They’re not technically great but they accomplish what they’re supposed to do they are efficient.

      @@sakinaalia1067 They are. They literally explained why it is inefficient, and this does not mean they wont suit their songs. They are talking about singing technique, and TECHNICALLY it is inefficient.

      @@godcaoss ok that’s fine but I don’t think it’s inefficient to the point of her voice declining more than normal. Id argue people like Adele who are hailed as great vocalists yet have vocal problems every few years are more inefficient.

    So I am totally obsessed with Ms. Swift. She’s my favorite person ever. I am a vocalist, about to finish my bachelor’s in music performance. I think she tends to be breathy and under pitch at some times, while having a pressed phonation at other times. I think some of her just amazing vocals are from the 1989 world tour and Speak Now. Another thing is that she sings in a very primal way. I don’t think it’s about sounding pretty, technical, or efficient for her. It’s about unearthing emotions.

      I love the newly released version! I wouldn’t necessarily recommend them reacting to this one because she was a bit flat throughout. It was probably due to her nerves and her feeling very emotional. I’ve noticed that she tends to be under pitch when something really really cuts her to the bone. But I’m a huge swiftie, she’s phenomenal!

    This is the first time I’ve watched one of your videos, and I found it utterly self-serving. I think it is irresponsible to take a video like this out of context to point out singing flaws. At the very beginning of Tiny Desk, she applauds them for giving artists a place to showcase their music (not singing or vocals). She then follows by saying, “ I wanted you guys to hear how the songs sounded when I first wrote them. She’s giving insight to her writing. Do you think she sits down to write a song and worries about supporting her voice, glottal stops, breathiness, etc? No, she was inviting people into her intimate world of writing, not singing. If you want to do a video on singing, why on earth would you choose this? I by no means thing Taylor is cream of the crop in singing. She has made HUGE improvements from beginning to present, though. The only thing I can think for choosing this of ALL of her videos is self serving. I think that is poor judgement on your part, as it discredits your feedback.

    • @ChaseandMelia
      @ChaseandMelia  2 года назад +1

      I think the reason we like the NPR Tiny Desk performances is because it's a basic typically acoustic version of these performers songs. This makes it easier to analyze their singing compared to a more produced performance. We know this isn't her best performance, nor do we believe we were overly critical in this one!

  • @andreasavanna5666

    Personally all the reactions I’ve seen from these two are performances that focus on points they perceive as negative to the singers. Are they criticizing or are they perfectionists? I never seem to watch a whole video of these two because I get tired of the put downs.

    i don't think this is good performance to go by because she doesn't usully sing all to well like this. the whole vibe of her tiny desk performance was i'm going to sing these songs how i wrote them the very first time, before i changed the melodies and tempo to record them kind of thing
