HELL YEAH! This reaction made my day for days! Styx was my 1st concert in 1978, Tommy Shaw stole the show then and still does. These guys had a great run, can't say enough about them.
Tommy Shaw had one of the best voices in rock. He’s been in Styx since the mid 1970’s. Incredible talent. I stopped by to see Asia’s smile, and wasn’t disappointed. Good job guys!
The lead singer, blonde guy, is Tommy Shaw from the Great Band Styx! This, is an excellent band these guys put together. Ted Nugent showing off his great guitar playing skills as well. Great job you two!
Tommy Shaw (composer & lead vocals) of Styx, who gave us great tunes of theirs such as Crystal Ball, Man in the Wilderness, Foolin' Yourself, Blue Collar Man, Renegade...
One of my favorite bands of all time! Ted Nugent lead guitar, Tommy Shawn “Styx” lead vocals guitar, Jack Blades “Night Ranger” Bass guitar and Michael Cartellone drums who went and played for Lynyrd Sknyrd after this band. Supergroup for sure only 2 albums though.
Yes BJ it’s Ted! This was a super group that only made 2 albums to the best of my knowledge. The singer is Tommy Shaw from Styx. The other dude is from Night Ranger.
I would definitely call this a power ballad. I haven’t heard it in decades, and what stuck in my mind all those years was the slow intro. I completely forgot about the heavy guitar until just re-hearing it now.
Thank you so much Asia and BJ for doing a reaction to this song! It's one of my absolute favorites and I've been requesting it on my different reaction channels for a while! It is such a high quality song with highly talented musicians and singers and just a🔥song! And yep that is good ol Ted Nugent! Tommy Shaw singing lead vocals and on guitar from Styx with Jack Blades from Night Ranger on Bass/background vocals and Michael Cartellone on drums, who's played with a few major groups! They were a 90s Super Group who unfortunately weren't together for very long! Definitely super talented tho! So thanks!🤘❤️
Tommy Shaw's vocals and any time he records an acoustic guitar is golden! When he joined Styx for Crystal Ball they were already killin' it, and then he helped take them to a whole other level. And what can you say about Ted Nugent...outside of "Stranglehold" this just might be one of the best solos he's ever done for a song. Be sure to give it up for Jack Blades, vocalist and bassist for Night Ranger "Don't Tell Me You Love Me" fame. He is instrumental to the vocals and songwriting as well. This is what a super group sounds like! Guys from highly successful bands join up just to see what they can do:) Freakin' Incredible!
I love that this song made its way to your ears! Damn Yankees was this perfect explosion of sound, wedged in between the end of arena rock and the beginning of grunge. It sounded like nothing else on the radio, and people just ate it up. Tommy Shaw is universally regarded as one of the best rock singers to ever live, but let's give Jack Blades some due credit. That man is hitting an E5 note in chest voice here (right at the end of the verses, and in the "whoa-whoas" of the bridge.) He's also the man behind the insane high notes in the chorus of Sister Christian! And just a magical guitar solo delivered by Nugent. This song has stood the test of time - still sounds sharp and crisp forty years later. Well, the whole album has, actually. One of my favorite albums from start to finish.
I met three members of Damn Yankees backstage in St Louis MO at Riverport Amphitheater in the early 90s, Jack blades was a relative of a friend of mine and many members of his family were also back there, and somebody put a damn Yankees logo sign on the door where the family was, and crossed out Yankees and wrote in family, which made it say "the damn family". I got to talk with Tommy Shaw for about 10 seconds, and Michael cartellone for a couple minutes, and Got a autograph from Ted Nugent.
I remember when this album came out all the writers in the music industry were saying how this would never work. Ted Nugget teaming with singers from Styx and Night Ranger??? Everyone thought it was just too odd of a mix to work. Turns out they recorded two of the best albums from the late 80's/early 90's era. I loved both albums more than any of the albums any of them ever did with their "main" bands. Not a bad song on either album. Some songs are better than others, but I can't say that I ever feel the need to hit the button to skip a song when I'm listening to them. And there are very few albums I can say that about.
Styx is an all time band for me, seen them 4 times, one of them being in Montgomery AL and I drove from Texas. Always been a huge Nuge fan. Michael on the drums is killer, Blades and Shaw are fantastic together. I discovered them in 2005 when I found their 2nd album in a thrift store. Loved it found Come Again and imo is underrated and their best song. I listen to it all the time and never get tired of it.
Damn Yankees was a supergroup formed up from hugely successful members of previous groups. Vocalists are Tommy Shaw who was a major part of Styx (along with Dennis DeYoung) as a co-lead singer and songwriter on some of their biggest hits and Jack Blades. Blades was the powerhouse lead singer from Night Ranger. Their voices sound amazing together. Both are also very accomplished guitarists. Ted Nugent of course had a well established solo career and is an iconic lead guitarist. Michael Cartellone won the spot on drums, for reasons this song makes obvious. And the rest is history.
Ted Freaking Nugent. My wife and I saw him live in concert last month. We have boarding land outside Waco Texas. We hung out before the concert back in a trailer that was setup for him and his band. He is 75 and went out and blew the audience away. 2 1/5 hour set.
The blonde lead singer & guitarist is Tommy Shaw from Styx, the brunette on bass is Jack Blades from Night Ranger, and yes, that *is* The Motor City Madman himself, Uncle Ted, Ted Nugent on guitar! Michael Cartellone is the master on the drums!
Sweet melodic blue eye soul. Been listening to Tommy Shaw since he first joined Styx. Iconic voices in Styx. Even the newest Styx is brilliant. So many amazing artists back in the day. So talented that they had no problems bridging all walks of life. But I also want to hear This Day by Jennifer Holiday! Lotsa love from a white guy. Loved your very natural reactions by the way. I'll stop back again. Great job!! 😊
Yes you are right - it is Uncle Tedley - that guitar is like his third arm!! & they were like a collaborative band every time they played together! A band made up of mvps!! 🎉 Excellent Reaction 😊
Like a fighter jet taxiing to the runway, then hitting the afterburner on takeoff. Confronting the enemy in an all out dogfight and then returning home, landing victorious!
It would great if these guys got back together to make another album. They were a good band. I’ve seen them in their respected bands and Ted doing his solo gig. Ted honestly was the loudest concert I’ve ever been to. My hearing was wrecked for over a week because of him.😂
Yes, that indeed is Uncle Ted! Whether you like him (and his politics) or not, he's one hell of a guitar player! His playing lives up to his moniker as the Motor City Madman! Damn Yankees are definitely a supergroup. Tommy Shaw on lead vocals (Styx), Jack Blades on vocals and bass (Night Ranger), Ted Nugent (Amboy Dukes and soloist), and Michael Cartellone on drums. My Mom once sorta met Jack Blades. They passed each other in a pharmacy aisle and he gave her a nod and smile on his way out. She had no idea who he was. Had to learn it from the pharmacist in the back who had tickets to that night's show and was completely wigging out.

FKN amazing song! The sad part is I tried to get you both to react to this one about 3 years ago!!! One of the greatest guitar solos ever. Their live performance of this on RUclips is jaw-dropping with Teds solo. The singer on this one is Tommy Shaw - of Styx (Renegade, Blue Collar Man, Crystal Ball, Man in the Wilderness). But he isn't the only singer - the bassist is Jack Blades also lead vocals on some songs and is from the band Night Ranger. And of course Ted is no stranger to the mic, either.
Tommy Shaw sang most of Styx's greatest hits,(And still tours with them today) Jack Blades was in Night-Ranger, Uncle Ted needs no introduction, and Michael Cartellone was relatively unknown at that point. He went on to work with a ton of artists and has been Lynyrd Skynyrd's drummer for the past 23 years. Also, the harmonies of Shaw/Blades is utterly stunning and they went on to do a couple? of albums under the name Shaw/Blades.
Jack, Tommy, Ted and Michael were frickin awesome, all had great careers with their own bands before coming together to form this super group. They disband after having so many hit, a record label payed them like 2 million dollars to not put out another record
@@poeslanding I saw them twice on that tour with Bad Company. The first time they opened up. By the time they came around a second time, High Enough was a huge hit and Bad Company opened for them.
Damn Yankees was what was known as a "supergroup" as everyone in the band was famous from elsewhere. Tommy Shaw (main vocals) was the "rocker" from Styx. (Songs like Too Much Time on My Hands and Renegade were his.). Jack Blades was from Night Ranger, who were big in the very early 1980's. And Ted Nugent was of course one of the best guitarists ever. They only did two albums but the songs were almost all spectacular. Were big right around 1990-1992. Ted Nugent was kind of always a lone wolf and left to be his own thing again and Damn Yankees ended in 1994. But this song in particular always was one of my favorites and really was peak non-grunge rock right around when the golden age of rock was ending. Everything from the vocals to Nugent's playing was at the top of their game and this song in particular the guitar solo is just about epic and shows why Nugent was always considered like in the top five guitarists ever. It is really hard to believe one guy can do that with a guitar. He is on a whole other level. Sound really holds up and I have seen a revival of them on radio and other platforms because the sound does not sound "1980's" dated and it just so good and they were all so talented, but they are of course all kind of old now. For a group that only did two albums, you cannot do two better than they did.
Supergroup Damn Yankees. They made 2 albums, both really good albums with lots of hits. The band consists of Tommy Shaw of Styx on guitars and vocals, Jack Blades of Night Ranger on bass and vocals, Ted Nugent on guitar and vocals, and a Michael C. On drums who wasn’t from any band I knew of. Tommy, Jack, and Ted are all lead vocalists and sing lead on Damn Yankees songs.
Great Reactions! Pot Luck Rock N' Roll on this one. The drummer went on to play for, "Lynard Skynard" after this but, "Nugent", "Styx", & "Night Ranger" are all the musical flavors in it. Peace
Tommy Shaw and Jack Blade from Night Ranger. What can you expect from two of the most underrated musicians in rock history? and of course Ted Nugent a great guitarrist with great techniques.
ive seen ted 13 times live..freakin madman..there were times they would have to drag him off stage..diff a rabbit hole to check out...double live gonzo album is a good pick tommy shaw from styx and bass was jack blades from night ranger..believe it or not the drummer was painting baby beds....what a super band..great reactions as always😎👍
My favorite supergroup and my favorite sing by them. Yes, it is a power ballad. Uncle Ted can play. I've always been a Tommy and Jack fan. Michael impressed me. I didn't know who he was before this. I know he was with Lynyrd Skynyrd, but don't know if he still is.
Asia absolutely right that this is not only a power ballad, but one of THE BEST POWER BALLADS of all time. The song is a ballad, because the lyrics are about longing, love, even lust, and has a slow, quiet, almost sad verse set... then, boom. Power rock. Then soft outro. Asia's right on. Saw some eye-shine when Tommy snatched at his shirt... Listen to the ladies when they tell you it's a ballad. ;) If you liked this... one of their more obscure sexy southern hits is "Mystified" -- same album.
Grew up a block away from Tommy Shaw, listened to him at Keglers Kove Lounge in Montgomery Alabama late 70's- 80's before Styx hired him. He has been with Styx for several decades now. He and Jack Blades harmonize better than most people in music. Mi heals power drumming is great, and Ted Nugent has always been as baddass as they xome on guitar. There were several "Super Groups" in the past combining talented musicians. Always thought Damn Yankees was top of the list. You should do more of their stuff. Y'all appreciate good music, and they definitely make some
Michael Cartellone, Tommy Shaw, Jack Blades and, Ted Nugent. The Damn Yankees.

Teddy was hittin' switches during that solo 🤘
Saw them in Sacramento, extra points for BJ, catching Ted 🎉😊
This song is fantastic! Damn Yankees stopped way too soon. ❤ Yep , that's Ted the man!!!!
Yes, it's Ted Nugent
I concur
Short lived super group. Damn Yankees knew how to rock
this is high school music all day for me. love it. And High Enough by these guys was also huge
Great Reactions! Pot Luck Rock N' Roll on this one. The drummer went on to play for, "Lynard Skynard" after this but, "Nugent", "Styx", & "Night Ranger" are all the musical flavors in it. Peace
YAY!! You finally found it!! ♥️🎶The original video is so simple but straight FIRE!! 🥰 🔥
Just 4 guys singing playing actual instruments magic next level kind of thing
Uncle Ted playing band member (instead of band leader) lettin' it ALL hang out! A true American ripper!!!!!! 👍😎
One of my favorite songs. Not just from them. Great song. Thanks for doing this one!!
Tommy Shaw and Jack Blade from Night Ranger. What can you expect from two of the most underrated musicians in rock history? and of course Ted Nugent a great guitarrist with great techniques.
When you take some of the best minds in rock and put them together, this is what you get. Complete awesomeness.
Bj, way to go. It’s Uncle Ted. The Motor City Madman. Tearing it up!
Probably the best rock "super group" ever.
She's got that guitarist face down 😜 ..! It is lovely too 😘
Blond singer is Tommy Shaw from Styx and Jack Blades from Night Ranger and long hair guitarist is Ted Nugent....
Power Group! Uncle Ted, singer from Styx, Drummer from Night Ranger. Moment in time! 💕
Tommy Shaw (Styx)said:
“If it’s too loud, blame Ted”
…..indeed
And Tommy Shaw and Ted are still tight Friends!
ive seen ted 13 times live..freakin madman..there were times they would have to drag him off stage..diff a rabbit hole to check out...double live gonzo album is a good pick tommy shaw from styx and bass was jack blades from night ranger..believe it or not the drummer was painting baby beds....what a super band..great reactions as always😎👍
Listen to the ladies when they tell you it's a ballad. ;)
If you liked this... one of their more obscure sexy southern hits is "Mystified" -- same album.
My favorite Damn Yankees song and one of my all time favorite rock songs.
A super group that ended too soon.
"High Enough" is another one to checkout.
Y'all appreciate good music, and they definitely make some
You guys are friggin' awesome. Never stop what yall do. Yall bring people together man. Through music!! ❤❤
Amazing! And these guys are still good friends and still play shows together.
All I have to say about that is UNCLE TED!!!!!! So underrated.
Tommy Shaw from the band Styx has next level vocal range!!
I think night ranger is kind of underated too. One of my favorite songs back in the day was " you can still rock in America"
