    I just put some turkey and ham leftovers in the freeze dryer. perfect timing on your video. your gravy looks delish. I don't have any left over nor did I have much taters left.

    Dang! Came out nice. I am very interested about the shelf life and I really appreciate how you test your concoctions to see how they aged over the years. I have had some fails.

      I have done a video (3 year old chicken pot pie) that included mashed potatoes. The potatoes were perfect at the 3 year mark.

    Have you ever cooked turkey breasts in the crockpot with Tony Cachere’s sauce injected into them? It’s so so good! I’ve freeze dried a bunch of turkey cooked this way. I guarantee you will love it if you try it!

    I know this video is 6-7 months old, and you may have already figured this out.. I noticed the turkey, gravy, potatoes all crumbled as you were transferring them to Mylar bags.. in the future I suggest using a spatula-to transfer the food. If nothing else it could save a little time.
    It’s so amazing how you remember what you said earlier in the videos! Like taking one potato square from each tray. I know it’s usually a couple 2 or 3 days later between traying, freezing, freeze-drying and recording the bag process.
    Recently I made some hamburger helper meals (cause I’m lazy and don’t put as much efforts into my MRE’s as you do) and freeze dried them. I lost track of one of the bags and didn’t heat seal it let alone put an O2 absorber in it. A couple days later I found it abd decided I would taste test it.
    I followed your directions with rehydrating, put hot (boiling) water in the bag, sealed it for 2 minutes…opened and stirred then closing for another 2 minutes… opened and stirred once more and began eating it. It was perfect! Just as fresh as when I originally cooked it.
    You are amazing good sir!

    When i rehydrate meat, i just add broth base in the water. More flavor.

      Great Idea, I would too. But when SHTF I may not have broth so I prefer to test my meals the way I may have to eat them

      WOW I hadn't heard that one. I did know there is a tick out there that supposedly makes you allergic to beef (a GMO tick if you ask me)

    What size freeze dryer do you have? Just wondering the size of your trays for size of each serving with the dividers. Your turkey dinner looks delicious!

    Wow, John! That seems SO expensive to package! Couldn’t you put the potatoes in the mylar bag, and the gravy and turkey in two unsealed sandwich zip top bags inside the mylar?

      You could do that, but then you couldn't rehydrate the potatoes and gravy in the ziplock bags. In a pinch I can add boiling water to all three bags and rehydrate without dishes. The goal of my meals is to be able to do just that in an emergency situation.

    I’m very new to this. A question please. butter in the potatoes and the gravy from turkey drippings. Fat in both so it’s still ok to freeze dry? And where did you get the nice dividers for food? I thank you.

      I did cover the fat content in the video but I will add. A raw egg is approximately 10 percent fat and no one questions fding eggs. The mash potatoes were 5lbs and I added 1 stick of butter to that which is about 10 percent.. I would also add that for those that think that a 30 hour run in the fd is a LONG run then this is probably not for you. I always go 40 plus hours and I know it is fully dry. The only thing I rush in my freeze drying is when I remove it from the freeze dryer and package it. Then I go just a quick as I can to get it sealed.

    Question John, why did you individually seal with O2 absorbers each component? In the past you have used unsealed plastic baggies just to separate the components so I’m just wondering about the different approach. I LOVE to learn from/with you!

      Thanks for remembering that I often use ziplock bags for separate ingredients. Others have commented saying I was wasting my money in this video. The reason I didn't in this video is because I wanted to rehydrate each item separately and I don't want to add hot/boiling water to a ziplock bag for fear it might melt.

    Hi - I am just finding your channel and have a QUESTION. the bag you're using here looks wide. I looked at your Amazon link and found this bag: Pleasant Grove Farm 7 Mil Zip Lock Mylar Bags Stand Up Gusseted Pouch in Multiple Sizes (100, 1 PINT 6 x 8). Is that what you are using here? I also watched your mac and cheese video and those looked the same as this video but not quite like the Amazon? I am struggling with portion size and what size of bag to use. I would like to be consistent like it looks like you are. I like your divider so I need to look for those also. thanks for the tips.
    Some people say fatty items like the cream cheese don't last long term. Can you say what the oldest item you've tried of something like that?

      Thanks I get the wide bags from topmylar.com they are called meal pouches. In this video I use the large one but mostly I use the single meal pouch
