I had the same problem, so I heat the milk with some water to 110-115 degrees added the yeast, waited for it to foam up then added it to the bowl. (activated the yeast)
What is the trick for the butter? I used to make butter like crazy. Now, every time I use heavy whipping cream and do it the same way I used it, it won’t even create whipping cream. Does the temp of the room matter?
