I don’t know shit about the technical part of drumming, but I do know that I didn’t like Jay (or Vman) initially because I’m 100% biased when it comes to old Slipknot VS today’s Slipknot. After watching this, I’m over that. He’s extremely skilled, and there’s no point in hating on the new shit and being stuck in the past. Might as well get used to it! If I wasn’t still a fan I wouldn’t care at all, but this band has meant so much to me for almost 15 years.

He’s definitely got some amazing talent and does really good with taking joeys crazy stuff and making it sounds cleaner when he’s live. Ben Birchall ya as a drummer myself your shins feel like they are going to explode after playing for a long time. I played a samba at 215 bpm and the song was 9 mins long and my right shin hurt so bad. But to play double bass crazy fast for 2 hours I can’t even imagine.
Watching his 2019 drum cam for P=S, that song is a part of him now, it's effortless. Nice to see such passion for improvement and commitment. That's why he is still Slipknot's drummer.

Where I think it’s obvious Joey is a technically better drummer, I way prefer Jays drumming style. He absolutely hammers the drums. Every hit has passion in it

Jay is an amazing drummer, however on a drumming/musicality scale, he was noway near as good as Joey was from 1995-2010, particularly from the self titled to Iowa era. 1) Although both Joey and Jay have timing issues, Jay's are far far worse than Joey ever was. 2) Joey was a double bass god, Jay seems to be incredibly sloppy. 3) Joey could play the 32nd hand to hand notes on the snare before the chorus, Jay is only playing 16th note triplets. 4) Joey was far more energetic in the ST/Iowa era even after multiple neck injuries, this is Jay's first tour with Slipknot. 5) Joey wrote all the good songs, hence why TGC was noway near as good as the previous albums. Disclaimer: I am a fan of Jay and yes he is a better drummer than I will ever be.
