- If you're looking for things to do in Penang, Malaysia, we discovered an amazing local textile art - batik! Recognised as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage, batik is a wax-resist dyeing/painting technique that allows selective coloring, which has been practiced in Indonesia (where it appears to have originated), Malaysia, and other parts of Southeast Asia for centuries. You use wax to cordon off areas to leave blank, and then you can apply a water-based dye/do watercolor painting to colour in the rest of the piece. We visited Rozana's Batik in Penang, Malaysia, which is in George Town not far from Kimberley Street or the Chowrasta Market (see episode 17). It's definitely worth a try when you travel to Malaysia!
Let Tattle Tales be your Malaysia travel guide! Each "Tattle Tales" video features a different experience with a local host. We like to focus on things that are a little more off the beaten path, where you can experience the local culture, not just the tourist traps. We release new videos every Saturday. Season 1 takes place in Malaysia and we'll deliver 25 episodes from January to June 2020!
