The timing was horrible, they were on a high, the accident happened and they had to stop everything to rebuild their lives. When they came back the world (and the music industry) had moved on to the next big thing and they never were able to get back on their feet. Plus all the trauma ruined the group dynamic. They were never the same anymore.
Legends? They had about 2 noteworthy songs and one of those was a terrible cover. They were a flash in the pan. When you refer to them as Legends, you are putting them in the same category as the likes of Hendrix, The Beatles, Zeppelin and Bowie....and they certainly aren't on that level.
I know this is a very late reply, but U2 did this exact same thing back in the 80's...except about 30,000-40,000 people flooded downtown L.A. to see them perform Where The Streets Have No Name.

Rap and punk (even if AAF aren't considered "real" punk...though I don't know how anyone could claim that after they pulled this stunt) have a lot more in common than usually care to admit. I'm completely with you, seeing everyone go from "WTF?!" to "Ok, yeah...how about we just have fun together?" makes this one of the best things to ever happen. Except for how it ended... We need more of this attitude/atmosphere instead of...whatever the shit is going on right now where "us v them: TO THE MAX HATE" is the norm. i feel like we tried a bit harder back in the day to mix genres and different peoples together. like Aerosmith and Run DMC. Those were the best of moments. Just true Artists diving deep into their passions.

I’ve always loved this video and this song. As a black kid who loved rock and hip hop this video always stuck with me The reactions from the BET Awards attendees were amazing…they just started rocking tf out 🤘🏾🤘🏾
I love that all the hip hop artists were loving it too. Wish people would realise that a lot of the hip hop legends, even the ones of today, came up on a lot of rock music too. They got appreciation for the art, it'd be dope if more of the fans shared that appreciation. I started on rock music and eventually found my way to rap, but I think they are two music genres that just go hand in hand.
I didn't realize how deeply interconnected rock and rap are until I visited the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. There you learn that rock music has black cultural roots and how all music is essentially derivative of the generations that came before it. The Hall of Fame pays homage not just to great rock and roll artists (including the black artists who created rock as we know it) but also legends of rap. It was a really eye-opening experience for someone who grew up thinking about rock music as a white people thing. Music is kind of this collaborative process that spans across cultures and decades, it's pretty cool.

I watched the red carpet for this awards show. No one had a problem with them. They were wondering who was performing that's why they have those weird looks on their faces.
What did you expect from the media? Black people below weren,t shocked or like - Hey these white dudes crashed our party! Most of the celebs there were themselves performers and took it as it was - a performance. This was a time when you would have videos like that of Eve and Gwen Stefani crashing a party for old rich dudes and everybody was having a great time. The only difference was that this was filmed live, no one was directing the show and everybody was reacting naturally - i.e. puzzled and/or enjoying it. Media - then and now - had to make this into a ”crash” to sell the story. And authorities - then and now - had to ”intervene”. Heck, even MTV presented this as a ”crash”. When they went and ”crashed” the gay parade, they said ”We thought it would be funny to just go down the parade on a float, appreciating diversity and jamming on our instruments. The most negative response we got all day was [from] the [anti-gay] fanatics". So much for crashing anything...
So glad I got to grow up with bands like this such underrated Legends and there shows were the best they could every be during this time they were so big and over the top best times of my life were at shows like AAF linkin park simple plan Green Day blink 182 sun 41 and LIT and I’m glad I got to experience these bands in there prime

People who didn't grow up during this era... Rap/Hip Hop/R&B was very much a bubble, and Rock was its own bubble. Never would the two meet and they almost felt like polar opposites to me at that time. Even as a kid, you listened to Rock in public and Hip Hip/R&B in private, and possibly the opposite was true. Rock in all its genres dominated the youth culture across America, where as today Rock feels way more underground and Hip Hop dominates. So seeing this at time was like watching two worlds that lived separate meet each other and it was crazy fun!
The term “sell out” is used too often. These guys are very talented and their music is the shit. Who knows why they didn’t blow up as they should have. I live for old skill HipHop (Tribe, Gangstarr, DeLaSoul) and I love these guys. Goes to show good music crosses genres.

The bus accident put a damper on the grind touring for this album. They're still out there though, their last release of Everything That She Wants was fantastic

He's in a band now called Red As Blood based out of Knoxville, TN. They have a few videos on RUclips. This band hasn't been together very long. Prior to that, the previous band he was in enjoyed quite a bit of local and regional success as well as some over seas oddly enough, Pegasi 51 -- they were together for years and years. You should check them out. (Promote, promote...lol.) I posted quite a few of the Pegasi 51 vids on my channel. They were part of a transitional period between nu-metal dominating the scene and the internet/emo taking over. They're kind of nu-metal but also emo-influenced so once it went full emo/warped tour they kind of faded because they just weren't contemporary enough. That's my take on it, as someone who was 17 when their first album dropped. Once My Chem, Taking Back Sunday, ect got big on Fuse they were kind of scene as a remnant of nu-metal.
I like to think i get 'these days' sounds of songs. I heard a bloke voicing how we don't need stuff like this, it's depressing. I'm certified depressed sure but the ignorance i thought of this guy whom thinks 'moaning' music brings people down and we should be thankful we ain't homeless, starving, etc, oh and it will make you depressed listening to this stuff. What did you expect from the media? Black people below weren,t shocked or like - Hey these white dudes crashed our party! Most of the celebs there were themselves performers and took it as it was - a performance. This was a time when you would have videos like that of Eve and Gwen Stefani crashing a party for old rich dudes and everybody was having a great time. The only difference was that this was filmed live, no one was directing the show and everybody was reacting naturally - i.e. puzzled and/or enjoying it. Media - then and now - had to make this into a ”crash” to sell the story. And authorities - then and now - had to ”intervene”. Heck, even MTV presented this as a ”crash”.
When they went and ”crashed” the gay parade, they said ”We thought it would be funny to just go down the parade on a float, appreciating diversity and jamming on our instruments. The most negative response we got all day was [from] the [anti-gay] fanatics". So much for crashing anything...

This video is awesome because everyone is feeling it...there isn't a big divide between rap and rock like a lot of people like to think, and aaf isn't making fun of them I think there's a lot of hip hop influence in their music and they just wanted to do something cool and fun
The -entire- crowd was moving to it and enjoying it, and yet again, cops coming in to shut it down. "Hey, those aren't rappers! They arent allowed to be here!". Still, was cool to see some of my favorite artists enjoying one of my favorite bands!

Listen to the lyrics, they're basically advertising a collaboration opportunity with their own song. They're even throwing compliments. I know what the lyrics really meant, but clearly the song takes a whole new meaning in this context.
I was actually there this day. When they filmed it... I was going through a breakup so it really cheered me up to see these guys perform my favorite song. I don't even think about her much anymore, I just think about the power of rock. BTW my grand kids like it when I play this song :D

Culture and upbringing counts too.
People who didn't grow up during this era... Rap/Hip Hop/R&B was very much a bubble, and Rock was its own bubble. Never would the two meet and they almost felt like polar opposites to me at that time. Even as a kid, you listened to Rock in public and Hip Hip/R&B in private, and possibly the opposite was true. Rock in all its genres dominated the youth culture across America, where as today Rock feels way more underground and Hip Hop dominates. So seeing this at time was like watching two worlds that lived separate meet each other and it was crazy fun!

Same here -- I truly like some of all types of genres. I find it interesting to find new bands and artists...even retro artists that I missed along the way growing up and older. Of course, we all have our favorite old standards that we lean on and love, too.

My brother is actually a part of that genre. He's in a band now called Red As Blood based out of Knoxville, TN. They have a few videos on RUclips. This band hasn't been together very long. Prior to that, the previous band he was in enjoyed quite a bit of local and regional success as well as some over seas oddly enough, Pegasi 51 -- they were together for years and years. You should check them out. (Promote, promote...lol.)
I posted quite a few of the Pegasi 51 vids on my channel. Don't start with the Rolling Stones cover if I still have it posted -- the sound was horrible!

They were part of a transitional period between nu-metal dominating the scene and the internet/emo taking over. They're kind of nu-metal but also emo-influenced so once it went full emo/warped tour they kind of faded because they just weren't contemporary enough. That's my take on it, as someone who was 17 when their first album dropped. Once My Chem, Taking Back Sunday, ect got big on Fuse they were kind of scene as a remnant of nu-metal.
