I was 17 in 1997, and just got a scholarship from my country Kuwait to study in Japan, left to Japan and there I entered tower records in Shibuya and listened to this song and bought the CD immediately, till this day I listen to it like its 1997.

Because she was being different the media/chart/music shows would completely ridicule her a LOT. When you listen to a bjork song, you honestly couldn’t tell if it was released in the 90s or right now….that’s how far ahead she was with her music. She put her critics to shame.
I had a friend show me her videos about 6 months ago and I keep coming back to listen to her. He had thought and told me this music came out within the last few years and I believed him too. We literally thought this was new stuff. Both of us are very avid music enthusiasts too, I listen to all kinds of music.
Really? I grew in the same era and although I seem to remember people thought she was brilliant even back then. The gossip media certainly had a field day with her, but when it comes to music I feel like Bjork has always been thought of as incredibly influential and ahead of her time. Madonna wanted to work with her. Peter Jackson wanted her to sing the end theme to the second Lord of the Rings movie. She wasn't languishing in obscurity waiting to be appreciated 30 years later, that's for sure.

The video is actually extremely dark on an apocalyptic level. When the publisher falls out of love, all books are unwritten and all people and buildings get devoured by the bushes and the trees. The city turns into a forest with the empty book buried deep inside the ground, until she finds it again while digging and everything repeats itself in an infinite loop.

She lives alone until a big city emerges and she discovers a New life. I think then that the title " Bachelorette " refers to the loneliness of Isobel before going to the city. yea, it could be interpreted so many different ways. Like how fame and the greed of the industry takes a toll on her, you get chewed and spit out, it all repeats itself, she's trapped, and in the end shes back in nature, where she belongs. Just beautiful. (Thats why I loved the 90's, there used to be so many creative music videos that tell a proper story, which today I miss alot.)

This is the first time ive heard this song (i dont get out much) and its f-g brilliant. God i love Bjork. I bought her records in the 90's but she scares me a bit. Every time i see her and listen to her voice at the same time i get this weird feeling in my heart like a jump or a squeeze. Its weird. She is fascinating to me but i dont know why. i totally understand how crazy people can obsess about her. Anyway i dont like feeling crazy/weird so i dont watch alot of her videos but im glad youtube sent me here to watch this. Great song. Thankyou Bjork you living legend and slightly supernatural deity.
It's funny i can see how she would intimidate guys. As a girl she spoke to my inner self. I could always find lyrics that i could relate to. I can see though as a man, looking from the outside at this beautiful fiery creature how they could be intimidated. To me it was empowering.
@@abandonedmuse Yes i see that, i dont feel intimidated as such (intimidate seems like a favourite word from the tv nowadays though) but she scares me because she makes me feel a bit crazy. i like her too much and in a way that i dont like any other celeb. i could easily obsess over her. I think she is the most powerful woman in entertainment in some ways and i can only describe her as slightly supernatural. A beautiful fiery creature is a good description, I sometimes like playing with fire but its always a mistake.
@@abandonedmuse yes but i dont know the details, and dont want to know, but i think thats the thing about her, she is so incredible its easy to go crazy over her. My original comment was meant to marvel at her and at her slightly super human qualities but i dont want to start a conversation about mental people and weirdness. I just wonder what is it that makes her so special. Its not really her looks or just her voice, it must be something else.
@@alexc6324 yeah her creativity. And I mentioned it because guys get creepy like that and it freaks me out. Good to know you aren’t that wild. Yeah she is definitely a beautiful spark in this otherwise extremely insane and dark world.
A work of art. 👍 Tells the story in just a few minutes as if it were an entire film. There is a metaphysical intelligence spread in every minimal detail of the image. A beauty of rare charm! /... The music sounds, curiously, a bit like certain theme songs from 1970s crime dramas... 💙
this must be one of the highest pieces of art in human history - no other movie, painting, photograph, book takes you where this takes you - or none I'm aware of, is there any? The fact that it all happens in 5 minutes... so many questions, what did just happen? the song in itself is so powerful - but the images consume you very often and when you eventually snap out of it and find yourself hearing that beautiful song - I thought I was going to melt or something.
Fuck man! Just STOP!!! You have no idea what you're talking about. This is PLAGIARIZED from a FRENCH TELEFILM, which I have been HUNTING DOWN for almost 50 years! Still I can't find it. The director was French so he was well aware of what it was copying. It was never rebroadcast in France when he made this, so he thought no one would know or remember it. He thought wrong! I DO.
This is such a powerful song. It really makes so feel like the fate of the fucking earth depend on this relationship. Few artists are good enough the provoke emotions like this❤️

In the shape of a girl
You're the bird on the brim
Hypnotised by the whirl
Drink me, make me feel real
Wet your beak in the stream
Game we're playing is life
Love's a two way dream
Leave me now, return tonight
Tide will show you the way
If you forget my name
You will go astray
Like a killer whale
Trapped in a bay
I'm a path of cinders
Burning under your feet
You're the one who walks me
I'm your one way street
I'm a whisper in the water
Secret for you to hear
You're the one who grows distant
When I beckon you near
Leave me now, return tonight
Tide will show you the way
If you forget my name
You will go astray
Like a killer whale
Trapped in a bay
I'm a tree that grows hearts
One for each that you take
You're the intruder's hand
I'm the branch that you break

@@poesie_paienne Thank you so much for taking time to answer.
That was very useful and informative.
Now I know what songs I'll listen un order to make my own interpretation .

if sometime i see Björk on concert i could die in peace
Cornucopia, sis, Cornucopia!!
i live in ecuador she doesn't even know we exist

That train carriage flip is so amazing yet so simple
My favorite Bjork video! I love how it's a story within a story and then it all turns to nature, which is where it started. Brilliant.
yea, it could be interpreted so many different ways.
I always thought that this was one of the most powerful songs of the 90s, it’s dramatic, dark, sad, a bit sexy, a true work of art 🙂
One of the best music videos ever
This is the first time I've ever seen it...wow. Talk about "meta". Reminded me of Charlie Kaufman's film "Synecdoche, New York"
Holy shit, mom what are yoy doing here?!#?$?_?&
well hi marina and the devil, again
omg hiii 💖
OMG I DIDN’T KNOW YOU WERE INTO BJORK
And Björk said, “Let there be art,” and there was art!
i feel like björk is the pippi longstocking of music. she's a free spirit, rebellious, spunky and smiley!
I always love it when björk reads bööks
The accordion playing those last seconds, goose bumps.
If I was a computer science teacher, I would play this video every year when it's time for the recursion lesson.
as a developer, good call. the video also illustrates the self-similarity property of fractals
@@citizen_data bachelorette(björk){ ... } is a tail-recursive function with björk.isSingle as the base case.
This album changed my life. This album changed me ... molded a part of me as an artist lyrically and sonically. I was 17 when it came out and it blew my mind.
amazing comment thank you
Thanks for giving us opportunity to review thisMasterpiece !!!😢😢Bjork is pure genius.....
I'm a fountain of blood
In the shape of a girl
You're the bird on the brim
Hypnotised by the whirl
Drink me, make me feel real
Wet your beak in the stream
Game we're playing is life
Love's a two way
Leave me now, return tonight
Tide will show you the way
If you forget my name
You will go astray
Like a killer whale
Trapped in a bay
I'm a path of cinders
Burning under your feet
You're the one who walks me
I'm your one-way street
I'm a whisper in the water
Secret for you to hear
You're the one who grows distant
When I beckon you near
You might also like
Leave me now, return tonight
Tide will show you the way
If you forget my name
You will go astray
Like a killer whale
Trapped in a bay
I'm a tree that grows hearts
One for each that you take
You're the intruder's hand
I'm the branch that you break

@@alexc6324 I am sure you know this, but she had a man obsessed over her send her a bomb through the mail. It was pretty scary for her.
One of the best music videos of all time.
This is fantastic! Thank you Bjork! How many years we had to squint our eye trying to decipher the videos in 144p quality, and now this beauty!
One of my top 5 favorite songs of all time.
I can say this with absolutely no apprehension.
Me too. It's my #3
my personal nr 1
A work of art. 👍
Tells the story in just a few minutes as if it were an entire film. There is a metaphysical intelligence spread in every minimal detail of the image.
A beauty of rare charm!
/... The music sounds, curiously, a bit like certain theme songs from 1970s crime dramas... 💙
Part of the '90s soundtrack. The last decade of great music. Brava, Bjork!
you should listen Whats Your Pleasure by Jessie Ware and consider that actual music can be great too
Welcome back, the most talented and mysterious elf of our times
Michel Gondry's work is flawless, perfect music video
One of the most lyrically beautiful Björk songs!
Kudos to sjón
To me,when people mentione 90s+ creativity Björk is the first name that comes to my mind. She just transpires creativity. A true visionary ❤
and then my day couldnt go wrong anymore, still one of my fav videos of all time
this must be one of the highest pieces of art in human history - no other movie, painting, photograph, book takes you where this takes you - or none I'm aware of, is there any?
I DO.
Great Artis and terrific woman 💓
Musical genius.. there will never be another Bjork.
Fka twigs
This is such a powerful song. It really makes so feel like the fate of the fucking earth depend on this relationship. Few artists are good enough the provoke emotions like this❤️
Alors !
Bjork, Portishead & Radiohead. Their music speaks to my soul.
I've seen Massive Attack followed by Radiohead and followed by Bjork on the same night in 1996. :p
And Bowie on the same stage the night before...with Mazzy Star.
No Portishead but i've seen them quite a few times too.
Pfft

This song change my life, the image of a tree of hearts defined a state in me, gracias Björk
I love this song so much. She has so many outstanding songs, but this one is just beyond anything she has ever written. I will see her in November '23 for the first time live. If I'm lucky, this will be in her set. Thank you Björk, for letting me feel all these emotions your music is ginving me. 🖤
Have you ever seen or heard a MASTERPIECE ? Here’s your chance ! #Bjork
And the album version is even better.
Is it a film? I’m a producer and composer but I am also a ufo researcher and communicator. Would you like to attend a real ufo sighting it might inspire you the way it has me but regardless the levels in your music are incredible and continue to inspire my choices occasionally in very cool ways . I have a sequel to my documentary “Curse of the man who sees ufos “ that just finished a two year run on Netflix. Called “the man who sees ufos “ coming soon ! The Muzik in that film is totally composed on mobile iOS computing and instruments as well as hardware synth design and found objects etc. also your music gives me focus in moments that I need that. I don’t know why but it just happens. Peace and many thanks Christo and Mr Gino 👽🐕☮️🛸🎶💀😉🙏✌️
She really is!
@@pegasuskukl i think it's the same, isn't it?
The video version seems to be the same as the album, but there is a radio edit on the singles that cuts the song in half - yuck!!
That shot of the first publisher at 3:42 getting sad hits me like a powerhouse every time.
The most original artist of her time. The most attractive woman of all time.
This is literally my favourite video of all time. Thank you
Remember this from my childhood. We watched it on MTV Russia. Such a nostalgia. Didn’t understand her music until growing old. Now finally I get this vibe!
"I'm a fountain of blood, in the shape of a girl"...achingly beautiful lyrics comprise this song.
All of these older songs of hers give me goosebumps. I grew up on this.
This is still, and forever will be, a masterpiece song out of a masterpiece album.
So many years have gone by so far, but the beauty didn't gather any dust, it still shines.
bjork is one of the best female artist of our era. so underrated...
Imagine feeling this way about someone! Her voice hits all the right emotional notes.
I love her so much. I always cry like a baby every time i play Bachelorette or Unravel.
this video is awesome! it is very good to teach students about narratives, metalanguage, mise en abyme, and a lot more... incrível!!!
It took me back to the 90s. A piece of art. You dont see artists so creative anymore.
The story of a story, within a story, within a story, within a music video
🥴👍
Björk's music opened my interest for soul electronica. So I started to explore it and thought I liked it. But now I realize it is Björk I love.
Beautiful Bjork. This is your finest moment. The song and video are perfect.
One of the best music videos & song ever.
I’m mesmerized how her music so closely resembles my life and my feelings. My capacity to feel pain is equal to my capacity to feel this deeply and resonate with a song of this nature. I don’t fight the pain anymore
this is probably the best music video I've ever seen
I have been listening to this almost constantly for the last 4 hours and often i cry at 4.00. I am a large 44 y.o man who doesnt usually cry! Bjork is a bit of a genius really.
Was amazed the first time I saw Björk and it still brings amazement today. She is an amazing artist that will always be beautiful with words and visualizations.
What wonderful visual storytelling, about visual storytelling! Russian dolls & storytelling genius. Absolutely love this. I've adored the song for a long time, now I adore the video too. Awesome.
This is one of the best music videos I've ever seen.
Let not the brilliance of the video distract you from the mesmerising beauty of the lyrics.
This is Bjork’s best video. She has an amazing videography. This is Gondry’s best video.
This is what I think many fans have been waiting for, for a very long time. Thank you!!!
I don’t see how anybody could listen to this song, or her voice, and not recognize its beauty.
Why has no one introduced me to this? This video is art, and the video elevates it
I've been looking for an HD version of this for years!! You are a legend!
The greatest song of all time, idc
Bjork is truly one of the greatest musical artists, creative artists ever - and nicest person, and even if it is inappropriate to say - hottest women ever as well. I will never get tired of her music and ever not be amazed by the creativity in her music videos.
