This album was so great, this song gets lost in the shuffle. It was released September 18th 1970, the same day Jimi Hendrix died. Tough day to get your new album noticed.
that riff that drops at 4:43 is a staple of metal now. like rob zombie said " every cool riff was already written by black sabbath. you can play it faster or slower or backwards, but they wrote it first. "
Tony Iommi invented the riffs, Bill Ward the drums, Geezer Butler made the lyrics and bass lines and Ozzy create singin melodies and he was a front man
Probably one of the most brutally honest descriptions of a veteran's trauma and drug addiction. Sabbath never pulled punches. Although rooted in the Blues, Sabbath also had some Jazz influences, which are plainly evident in the main groove of this song. Abracadabra, great choice and great reaction!

Can never go wrong with Sabbath. Bill Ward is so underrated. For my money....the best drummer there is. Give "Symptom of the Universe" a spin. Or if you want to hear a different side of Sabbath...."Planet Caravan" "Changes" or "Solitude". The latter, in my opinion, is one of the heaviest songs ever.
